BTW, my brother just told me Ross Gload went 3-4 with a grand slam vs a lefty tonight. Time to send down Adkins, and call up Gload.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:38 AM) In the first half, you could feel the offense was going to comeback from a deficit like tonight's. You don't feel that anymore. I feel like a big part of the reason for that was we're now facing real solid bullpens that won't take games.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) --good point southside, but you gotta admit at 36 games over .500 it didn't look like we needed too much. If Everett, Dye, Crede, Iggy, AJ, Paulie, et. all keep hitting like this we might blow the big division lead, but I still say we'll get back on track. I just wish Hermy would have not given up the ninth inn. homer; that woulda been nice to win since it's gonna be tough to snap our funk vs. New York. Everyone knew we needed offensive help. We lost one of our most dangerous hitters in Frank Thomas, and didn't do a single f***ing thing to replace his production. Putting Everett in the starting lineup severely depleted our bench, and Everett should not be anywhere close to the number 3 spot in the order.

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:34 AM) thats like saying we are a little league team and our best player is hurt and we cant win. this is a pro team. players need to step in and try and win with out there best player. just my two cents. And if you do DL a player, make a move to fill the spot. Timo and Anderson? No.

QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:34 AM) If Pods is overrated, then how do you explain how the Sox got off to their best start in 100 years and have been around 30 games over .500 for what seems like most of the summer. How were they getting it done? Luck? Solo Homeruns? Honestly it's a mystery to me, and I've watched every single game. Pods was just a piece of the puzzle, and this team had an amazing ability to win games. Our pitching carried us to the amazing record, especially amazing seasons from Garland, Cotts, Politte, and Hermanson. Those guys have pitched so far over their heads this season, and it really boosted our record.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) Grease we hit 250 in April and May. We won because of overhwelming pitching. If it wasnt for our pitching having a BAA in the 220's in April and in the 250's in May. It's scary how similar our thoughts have been tonight. Of course, that must mean we're both bad Sox fans.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:31 AM) I just have to say, look at this team when Pods was healthy, versus when he was not. I feel there's a huge difference. Look at the pitching numbers the first half of the season compared to the second half of the season. I think that's the biggest difference that has happened to this team.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:29 AM) fathom i have to agree with you and i hate to say this, cuz i know how many people are gonna take offense to what i am about to say and slam me and call me probably everything from a pessimist to a cub-lover, but scott podsednik may be the most overrated player by the fans (by the fans key phrase) ive seen on this team in a long long time Pods was exactly the type of player that Ozzieball is based on. However, besides Iguchi, there's no other players that really fit that mentality. However, it amazes me how we think of him as the reason we're losing right now. We're losing cause we're facing a lot better teams than we did earlier this year, and we're not getting lucky to win a few games. Our record against the top teams in the AL has been quite poor this season.

Where would he play? Seriously, he has no spot to play. Also, I think he might be a product of the product, if you know what I mean?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) I feel Pods is a huge reason this team thinks the only way they can score is via the HR. Fathom, no need to post Pods run totals. I know; you've said it a billion times. I just feel Pods made it easier for the team to realize that they were able to score via a basehit, bunt, or sac fly. Fair enough, but you can't score via basehit/bunt/sac fly if you can't get on base. The bottom of our order has been a flat out disgrace.
-
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) No but podsednik could wake this team up which would fix all of those probelms except maybe ozzie decsions pitching wise. Well, if Pods is that mighty, we might as well make him President of the United States. If we're expecting things to get better just cause Pods returns to this team, we're definitely desperate.
-
QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) This really shows how much Podsednik helped the team in the first half... when he was 100%. Every time he got on base, he distracted the pitcher, no matter who was on the mound. Iguchi was solid throughout the entire first half, mainly because he was batting on a distracted pitcher... and that's what sparked the offense. When's his first day back? We need him bad! This is so much more than Podsednik. Will Podsednik make our left side of the infield get a hit? Will Podsednik get Dye's head out of his ass? Will Podsednik allow Rowand to hit right handed pitching? Will Podsednik help our defense from costly mishaps? Will Podsednik allow Ozzie to get a better handle on when to pull starting pitchers? Will Podsednik help our starting pitcher avoid the big inning?

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) looks like he's gunna let this crap go on And admit that we need help? KW and Ozzie are both very egotistical executives. We're going to live or die with the players we have....and if this ship sinks, KW and Ozzie should go down with it.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:15 AM) This is a very sad offense to watch right now, plain and simple. KW HAS to get another bat or 2, or this dream season could end up in disaster. I think it's too late to get some real offensive help. Dmitri Young might be the best option, but that 8 million dollar option for next year is not a good investment.

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) This is from the Yankee board: I still don't trust Bud though, weird how different people (about 3) with different sources had the same rumor, I doubt Selig reads internet message boards, but he probably knows the backlash and he'd probably sweep it under the rug, he's already got his trophy in Palmeiro. Not to mention all of these guys are probably taking human growth hormone anyways... Or maybe it all matriculated from the same source, who was inaccurate?

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) Well the thing is with that is that we haven't been facing mediocre bullpens so to speak. A lot of our success has come out in the late innings, right now if we don't get it done early were done. Holy s***, thank you. I made that point about a month ago, saying how we had to pick our game up. Some people tried to convince me that the Yanks and Red Sox had terrible bullpens. We won a ton of games early in this season by beating up on bad bullpens. We had to win like 5 games against KC (and Sisco) because of their bullpen.
-
I'm still waiting for someone to make an argument on why we even think we can beat good teams right now? It doesn't matter if the other team has bad pitching, we can't hit anyone. Also, even if our pitchers pitch a great game, they're likely going to give up 2 or 3 runs. Thus, we just can't hang with these good teams when the offensive talent is so bad. Should a team with Timo, Blum, Crede, and Uribe really even have a chance against a team like the Yankees or Red Sox?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:05 AM) We were up on the twinks by 16.5 last week and 15 on the injuns. So dont sneeze becaues we could be only 5 games up by next week. Yeah, I'm wondering how long people will still act like they're not worried about the Indians and Twins. The Indians and Twins have had no problems coming back in games lately, while we must be batting like .050 after the 7th inning.
-
How long do you think this losing streak will last? If we lose tomorrow, we're likely headed for a 9 game losing streak. It's ok, as long as we're concerned about not having to face the A's in the playoffs, everything is fine.
-
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) we cannot catch a break f*** Come on, we're not exactly talking about an amazing play. Hawk is sounding desperate when he gets upset that a pitcher knocks down a ball right back at him, especially on a play that Cano possibly could have made.
-
QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) I'm usually optimistic but I can't help but think about the upcoming road trip and Pods not coming back until the next homestand... the 9.5 game lead could drop real fast. Trust me, I've never been called optimistic. I think this team is sinking fast, and the PK injury would make it that much worse. If we're waiting for Pods to get back to rejuvenate this offense, we're f***ed. Pods in the lineup won't do s*** for our awful left side of the infield, as well as the struggling Dye.

Anyone that would rather face Randy Johnson instead of J. Wright is absolutely insane.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:58 AM) its just frustrating so close to the end of the year, everyone is afraid of the big let down like 2000. i htink everyone is starting to realize how much we played over our heads in the first half and are coming back to life. after such a long time atop, its hard to look around hte league and say that we might be the worst team thats gonna make the playoffs I think right now a lot of people are just worried about making the playoffs.
-
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Jesus christ guys were in a 5 game most likely its going to be a 6 game losing streak look at all of the other teams longest losing streak 6 games is probaly the average everyteam goes through this point sometime in a 162 game season and b****ing on a message baord is not going to change that. Neither is telling people not to b****. There's not a single positive that has happened in the last week, and things aren't going to get easier from here. We're not exactly looking sharp in these games.

QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) If the Sox go down 1-2-3, I'll be depressed as hell. Forget getting any sleep tonight. Watching the Sox get shutout after the 1st inning every night is taking its toll on me. We'd still be up 9.5 after the debacle of the last week. Things could be much, much, much worse.
