Nice to see us catch a break early on. No reason to have Iguchi bunting yet. -

Good first inning for Duque. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Trust me if he gets a few hits today, he will play him. A few hits today? I have a better chance of getting on Greasy, JimH, and DBAHO's Christmas Card list. -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) why does he not use Anderson? If we're holding out hope for Anderson providing a lot of offensive production, we're in trouble. At this point, Timo has a better chance of getting a hit. -

Don't worry SSI, we only face Randy Johnson and Johan Santana in the next two games. Even Ozzie can't justify playing Timo against those guys. -
The three problems I've had with Hawk this year: - The stretch call on any ball within 10 feet of the fence. - Blaming the umpires for everything! Hell, even last night, Mussina was getting even more squeezed by the umpire, yet he didn't say a thing about that. Just cause a pitch is within 10 inches of the plate, it doesn't mean it has to be a strike - The "where would he play" fiasco. Don't insult our intelligence Hawk.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) Do people actually want us to fail? I think it's a defense mechanism being used by a lot of people, or a little reverse psychology.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) It will be a miracle if this line-up generates more than 3 runs. I've never been a big fan of our management (Ozzie/KW). I've officially lost all faith in them to be able to make the right decisions to get this team out of a slump. Rip me all you want, but this slump starts from the front office down. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) Perez, LF Iguchi, 2B Everett, DH AJ, C Rowand, CF Dye, RF Crede, 3B Blum, 1B Uribe, SS El Duque Well, considering that Ozzie held out PK yesterday so he could play today, this means PK's back injury is a little more serious than they hoped it would be. How about we see the fact that PK is hurt, and we call up Gload for Adkins? Now, will someone tell me why we should even have a chance to beat the Yankees with this pathetic lineup? -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 05:13 AM) TIMO. WHY IS THIS GUY ALWAYS GETTING ABS. THIS IS BORDERLINE CRAZY. HE CANT HIT. I AM BETTING THAT OWENS IN AA CAN HIT 220 AND HAVE A LESS THAN 300 OBP JUST LIKE TIMO. It's just my projected lineup, nothing official. -

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:12 AM) september 1st A speed player coming off of a groin injury doesn't exact equate to a lot of success coming out of the gates. Hopefully, other players on our team will pick it up, and Pods won't have so much pressure on him.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:11 AM) Okay, so the Sox have lost a few games in a row. This has dropped their record to a MISERABLE 74-45 and their divisional lead to a MICROSCOPIC 9.5 games. This, of course, is more than just cause to panic, so I don't blame you for doing so, but I think that as a whole, we should have a little more confidence in a team that until recently owned baseball's best record for about 3 1/2 months straight. Fair enough, but I've seen similar posts for about the last 3 days. At what point do the Sox suck it up, and compete harder on the field? There's no doubt in my mind we tried to coast the rest of the way, but this week proved we're not good enough to do that. I'm just sick of hearing things like "it's our first 4 game losing streak, big deal". The problem is, there's no guarantee that it's only going to be a 4 game losing streak, etc. The reason we're losing is because our offense is awful. That's the type of thing which can put you into a prolonged slump. With our schedule, a 10 game losing streak is very possible.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:02 AM) fathom thats the point again tho...there are two optinos here. 1.) you pay the guy what hes gonna want, and he will resign, so money was an issue. or 2.) you trade for him and let him walk. obviously thats a huge gamble and bmac coulda bit us in the ass for years to come. but us not making the trade could bite us in the ass for years to come too. If Burnett was offered a 3 yr, 45 million dollar deal from the White Sox....then he wouldn't have signed, and he would have expected to have that number matched and raised by the big budget teams like Red Sox, Yankees, etc. Freddy was a very unique situation because of his closeness with Ozzie. Ozzie and AJB didn't have that r'ship in order to force him to sign before testing the market. Good move by Burnett, who's making himself millions more with each start.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:57 AM) Would have been much higher than 5% if willing to eat some of that Lowell contract, but the team is only going to smash the record for sellouts in a season, so you know that whole JR thing about increased attendance equals increased payroll is so right on. Has Hawk started "this losing streak and letting Cleveland and the Minnesota closer into the race is exactly what this team needs, now they won't be stagnant going into the playoffs." That has to be coming soon. The main reason the Burnett trade didn't go through was Burnett had absolutely no intention of resigning with the Sox. He knows he's going to be the main pitcher on the market this offseason, and he's been rumored to want to pitch for the Red Sox for a while now. Taking on Lowell's contract would have been an awful idea.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:54 AM) Hawk > Tim McCarver Normally, that is true. But Hawk has become like a senile grandma right now who only cheers for her kid (even though she's naive to the fact that maybe he's not the best player), and blames the umpire for every close call that doesn't go their way.

Best news of the night: the game tomorrow is on Fox. Thus, no Hawk and his public relations blitz!

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) I understand your point but look at mine, in order to improve as a team some people had to step it up, thats what made us so good and made the Twins good in 02. Guys stepping it up has a lot to do with it than saying "oh it was luck." And we need some players to pick it up right now. We can't keep putting a lineup on the field with 4 or 5 guys in a massive slump, and think we're going to win.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) Your standards seem a little low to me. Monster year for Iguchi? He's been very solid, but monster year? No. I meant at the time, fathom. When Oz made the MVP comment and Iggy was hitting the deep ball as well as hitting what 290 or so at the time? I understand what you mean, but I don't think anyone really thinks of Iguchi as this team's MVP. PK has stepped up lately, that's it. We need a few guys to get the stick out of their ass, and make big contributions on the field.

I think Twins and Indians only play 3 more times this season. The Indians schedule is ridiculously easy.
-
QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) Career years for each of them yes, but you can't take away the fact that coming in to the season they could be keys. Look at the Twins in 02, they had a lot of improvements from key guys who helped them win but you can't say thats the only reason they succeeded. Yes we got some lucky wins but I wouldn't say we are lucky overall. Look at their career numbers, and you could have never expected this type of season from all of them. Of course, Rowand and especially Uribe have put up disappointing seasons this year.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:42 AM) --Fathom I don't know about that. Everett and Dye were considered to be having pretty good years; AJ having a big year. Also Crede was starting to hit and Iguchi having monster year. Is Anderson the answer? Your standards seem a little low to me. Monster year for Iguchi? He's been very solid, but monster year? No.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:41 AM) Looking at the schedule. Lot of games vs Twins and Tribe. And I know the Twins aren't scared of us. Well, we'll have no one to blame but ourselves if we don't make the playoffs.
