  1. QUOTE(hi8is @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) what kind of fortune are we talking about here? any projected figures? 4/40
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) What makes the fans scouting report different than your opinion? Uh, 'cause there's about 80 of them who said that Bellhorn is average defensively at second, and about 15 who said that Walker is awful on defense. And then there's you and your opinion. And like I said, it's all based on reputation, in my opinion. I've never heard of this "fan scouting report" before. Walker had a terrible reputation for his defense in Boston.
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) To be honest, I'd be shocked if the sox aren't big time players in the Furcal sweepstakes. He's going to cost a fortune, and I don't see us outbidding the Cubs if the Braves can't sign him.
  4. Why do I continue to get my hopes up that the Indians won't come back in every game? It's like watching a Hulk Hogan match, and thinking he's going to lose after getting the finisher done on him.
  5. Well, Dmitri just contributed to the Sox. He's already done more for us than Griffey Jr. ever did. Lets go Bonderman! BTW, it sure takes the sting off of Sox losses these days if the Indians lose also.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) The people who see Mark Bellhorn play on a regular basis say that he's average defensively, which is a better grade than Walker got. Well, what makes "the people's" view any different than mine. I would say that has more to do with Walker's poor reputation more than anything else. As a matter of fact, Walker was much, much better defensively than Hairston was this season at 2nd base for the Cubs. I guarantee you that Hairston has a better reputation on the fan's scouting report, and thus has better rankings.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) Grasp your viewpoint? Stats say Walker is a bad defender. The people who see Walker play more than you do say he's a bad defender. Stats say Mark Bellhorn is not much worse -- if at all -- than Walker defensively. The people who see Mark Bellhorn play on a regular basis say that he's average defensively, which is a better grade than Walker got. Attacking a poster? I'm attacking your flawed argument, which is coming from the base of -- "I know which players are good defenders, I can see that with my eyes". I'm using defensive stats, and the opinions of several others who say you're wrong. I never said Walker was a good defensive player. I would say that Walker and Bellhorn are comparable defenders at 2nd base, with not a huge difference devensively. However, there's a huge difference between the two in regards to hitting, especially with the attributes that the Sox need. If we needed a defensive 2nd baseman....I would pass on both of these players. Walkers has produced this season, Bellhorn hasn't.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) Ok -- so, the fans scouting report ALSO said he was a bad defender. But no -- fathom's eyes says he's underrated, so that must be true. :banghead :rolly Give it a break. I never said he was a good defender, but he's not nearly as bad as his reputation would lead you to believe. I watch enough baseball to know which fielders are good and which ones are bad. Walker is very comparable to Iguchi in my book, with Iguchi being better turning the double play. Both guys are poor going up the middle, and have very little range on pop ups. I do love when people attack certain posters though out of habit, instead of actually trying to grasp their view point.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) Just the dreams of some fans on a board right now. The only things so far is a comment by Todd Walker that he expects to be traded that I heard over the weekend, and the Cleveland rumor. But..but..but....where would he play on Cleveland? They have Belliard at 2nd base already, and a terrific DH in Hafner. Oh, that's right.....it's called stacking your roster.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) I'm not going to act like I know he's better -- because I don't. But, I find it absolutely histerical that you KNOW that Walker is underrated defensively, and that you KNOW that Bellhorn is below average defensively. People talk about Todd Walker like he's the worst infielder ever. I was simply saying that he wasn't that bad, and you can have him in the field and not get worried about every ball hit at him. It's not like he's the 2nd base version of Ozuna at 3rd base. Sometimes, you have to step back from the statistics and just judge guys with your own eyes. I bet you could find some statistics that say Pods is a good outfielder...when he's not. This team doesn't need a good defensive infielder....we need hitting, especially from the left side. I know this....I'd much rather have the Sox pitching face Jeff Liefer off the bench instead of Todd Walker.
  11. Walker has absolutely destroyed lefties this season, considering he's a lefty batter. He'd easily be one of our toughest outs. He doesn't have a lot of range at 2nd baseman....but I wouldn't say Iguchi does either.
  12. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) I honestly can't understand how Griffey can say "I'm not going" to a first place team which has maintained the best record in baseball most of the year when he's on a s*** team now. I can, he's comfortable playing in Cincinnati and he gets to spend spring training with his family. I'd love for him to come to Chicago, but Griffey Jr. is by no means the enemy in this situation. He's busted his ass for years, and I'll still root for him no matter what happens.
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Caution....Pods stated he will not be 100% the rest of the season. Groin injuries + base stealers = recipe for struggle
  14. Walker would also be great insurance if Iguchi continues to show signs of hitting the wall.
  15. Walker gives you someone off the bench who you can depend on for making contact in a big spot. Bellhorn is about the exact opposite. Also, Walker's defense is not that bad. I watch nearly every Cubs game (rooting against them), and his defense is vastly underrated. His defense is about average, but compared to how much he gets trashed for it, I just don't see the reason why he is. Not a single GM in baseball would rather have Bellhorn than Walker.
  16. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) The idea that Todd Walker can be suggested as a possible third baseman/dh and Mark Bellhorn cannot further proves how unbelievable some people are. Todd Walker is a terrible defensive second baseman and cheat and many others ripped into me for suggesting a much more talented Bellhorn make the switch to third for this team. Bellhorn>Walker Walker is a far superior hitter than Bellhorn is. If the Sox acquire a player, they better be able to help the team on offense.
  17. Sox are said to have no interest in Walker.
  18. The good news is he thought the Indians were going to acquire Todd Walker.
  19. One thing this team has been lacking all season: righty power off of the bench. Can anyone tell me if Anderson hits better against righties or lefties?
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 04:21 AM) Yorman Bazardo, talk about overpaying. This is why I think the Mariners would want an arm and a leg for some of their players that are supposidly on the block. Me too. With the rumors we're looking at Ibanez, I'm very scared about who we'd have to give up for him.
  21. Maybe Benson's a lot smarter than I gave him credit for. He's basically going to avoid all of the tough 2-a-days in the extreme heat. I still dislike him greatly, but he did the team no good holding out. At least Angelo won't have any excuses at the end of the season if he tanks, and Mike Williams excels.
  22. This offense has revolved a lot around Jermaine Dye. When he's hot, the offense looks much better. When he struggles, the offense lags also. Keep him in the lineup Oz!
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) I was thinking it was everything but official. But I wasn't around yesterday so maybe it was. I know there was a lot of speculation that he'd be brought up and it makes total sense. My guess is Bmac will replace Crede (if Crede goes on the DL) or Adkins will be taken off the roster and than called back up on Sept 1st (I think this is the one exception where you can pretty much send a guy down and immediately call them back up). It was in the tribune in the last day or so I thought.
  24. Reviewing the results from this month, the Sox have not come back from a deficit of more than one to win a game during the entire month of August. Whatever KW can do to boost our offense in the next few days would be greatly appreciated.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) I'm trying to find out, but I think Bmac may be making a start against the Rangers. I thought that was confirmed yesterday.
