QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) Come on guys, the biggest lead the Nationals had was like 5 games. We were at 14 or 15 at one point. I think they mean more like the similarities between how the teams were playing. Nationals won a ton of very close, low scoring games. Once they stopped winning every close game, their record went to s***.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) No. You've been saying the sky is falling all year. I don't know how you could have possibly enjoyed anything the Sox have done up to this point. No, I was saying that our luck wouldn't hold up for the entire year. I remember being criticized because I would say things like "I don't know how in the hell we won that game". Not once this year did I think we were as good as our record. Thankfully, we gave ourselves such a working margain that we could afford to having a prolonged slump, and still be in a good position to win the division.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:51 AM) We saw it happen to the Nationals, there magical season and now they are struggling with the wild card. we may very well be seeing the same from these white sox. i think we were riding on some big time luck and now they dont got any. our pitching is supposed to shutout every game to win it seems. Frank Robinson = NL Manager of the Year thru June Ozzie Guillen = AL Manager of the Year thru July? I hope not.

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) I realize that but why take one of our hottest hitters out of the lineup? Trust me I hate Timo too for all those reason and im only defending him this week because he has showed me the only good this past week out of the white sox. Hottest hitters? He's still like 8 for his last 40. He's been doing a better job, but there's still no reason to have him near the top of the lineup.

Good news, the Yanks are throwing Randy Johnson on Sunday!!!! If we don't win tomorrow, we're looking at a very likely 9 game losing streak after facing RJ and Johan. Is it safe to say the sky is falling?

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) We make every reliever look like a healthy Erig Gagne, and Mariano River will always be Mariano Rivera. It amazes me that these guys can't adjust on there own.... It's cause we have some of the dumbest hitters in baseball. Our approach at the plate is just awful. Everett keeps going to that shorten swing, yet he's swinging at any curveball in the dirt. Everett should be a number 6 hitter on a solid AL offense, not the number 3 hitter.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) But we didn't have a clue that Pods would be on the DL at that point. There was no reason to think so. Or that these guys would all slump at once. It's a slump. THis happens to every team at least once a year. Pods hurt himself before the ASB, and not for one second do I believe he really needed to go on the DL right now. We put him on the DL with the plan we could coast to the playoffs, and have him rested. Thus, we had to know 2 weeks ago we were placing him on the DL. Let me just say, I admire your optimism.

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) Still timo haters and yet him and konerko have been the only ones not slumping lately. I think the Timo hates are more pissed because of what Timo stands for right now: the Sox organization doing nothing to improve their offense. Timo shouldn't be leading off, no doubt about that. Might as well have Rowand try leading off. This lineup is going nowhere! It's fine, now we can hear how it's our first 6 game losing streak, and how remarkable that is.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) You don't trade for a Lawton to be a backup. And thats what he woulda been. You cant put him on the starting lineup of a team that has the best record in baseball. You put him as the rover, with the idea in mind that Pods would be going on the DL. You can't put him in the starting lineup? Just cause we had the best record, it doesn't mean the offense is set. Sorry, I'll take Lawton, you can have Timo.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:41 AM) Lawton is one of those guys who flies under the radar. His OBP is 1.00 higher than his BA at times. I'd take him in a second. He honestly would have been the perfect, logical fit for this team.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) Where would he play? Certainly not over Pods, Rowand, Dye or Everett. We could have only used a 3b or a DH. And Matt Lawton is not a DH. Certainly not over any of those guys? Lawton is just as good as Pods offensively, and especially when Dye is struggling, he'd be a perfect back-up. Why can't Lawton be a DH? Is there some rule saying he has to play the field?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) He's the last person who should be blamed in general, but he's the only person who should be blamed for that individual loss. Only person? Wow, that's tough standards, even with my philosophy.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) About as flat as a little girl. The worst thing is that this has been the armageddon that I was worried would happen all year. Now that it's taking place, I'm worried because we look worse than I could have ever imagined. The team is so flat, the games are just so boring, and the players look like they're scared out of their minds. We're playing not to lose!
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) I'd like to think the fact that our lead will be in single digits after tonight would spark us, but I doubt it. No, it probably just gives the Indians more momentum. I just can't believe how flat we're playing.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) He's been awesome this year. Incredible. But he still blew it. That was his fault. That doesn't make him bad or anything like that. It's still his fault though. That's exactly what I was saying. It has been obvious recently that Hermanson wasn't very sharp. It was just a matter of time for him to blow another save. He's the last person who should be blamed right now (along with Cotts).
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:25 AM) And you honestly think Kenny's not trying to get something done? I mean you guys make it sound like he can just go to TB and say, "I want Huff. Give him to me. Thanks" Teams were, and still are asking for a hell of a lot this year. Teams with the marquee players were asking for a ton (Griffey, Wagner, Huff, Guardado, Burnett). Jim Hendry must have naked pictures of the Pirates GM, because he sure got Matt Lawton for cheap. Lawton would have been the perfect addition to this team.

BTW, our good friend Lew Ford put the Twins ahead 7-4 with a 3 run homer. This is a lot of fun!

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) If I see Timo leading off tomorrow, I'm charging the dugout and strangling Ozzie. ANYBODY but Timo could lead off. Rowand, Iguchi, I know they are not ideal lead off guys, but they have to be a better option. Play Anderson in LF. Timo has one of our hits, and worked the count a few other times. You have to be nuts to think he won't be playing. Crede needs to just go away. I highly doubt PK will be playing tomorrow, as Ozzie likes to sit guys for one more game than they say they have to be out. Who knows, PK might be seriously hurt.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) You guys are acting like KW didn't think we needed to get KGJ. He tried. It didn't work out. There owner didn't want to give them up. Yes, but when it became obvious the owner didn't want to part with him, he should have gone on to plan B/C/D/E. Don't forget that this team had been planning on placing Pods on the DL for quite a while. Quite simply, we took our foot off of the accelerator, and we don't have enough talent to make up for the coasting attitude.

We could easily be getting no-hit tonight. Mussina sure has no problems pitching with a zone which is even smaller than what Garland had to pitch with.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) If you have a lead in the ninth inning you should be able to win too. Yeah, but I'm not going to go off on Hermanson. He's had a great year, and even though he's gotten away with all sorts of meatballs lately, it just sucks that was the game he finally got burned.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:19 AM) Crede swinging at flies again. His head was looking to the outfield as he missed that pitch. Send his ass down, put Blum at 3b, and call up Gload or Borchard.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) CLE 5 BAL 4 FINAL Might the lead be in single digits tonight? It's ok, everything is fine, right Hawk, KW, and Ozzie?
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:18 AM) Our picthing blew that game. Our hitting blew that game. If your pitching holds the other team scoreless thru the 10th to 15th inning, you should be able to win.

Ozzie, please pull Jon Garland!
