  1. Buehrle would be incredible in the NL.
  2. Well, now that it's over, I can say this: I'm happy we didn't trade for Walker. Knowing the way Hendry is, I have a feeling we would have been very upset with who we had to give up to get a rental player.
  3. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:24 AM) Neither are starters and you can argue that Blum is more valuable as a bench player but he is terrible offensively. Everyone here seems to think we'd better off with him starting yet Crede still remains a better option with two herniated discs. Blum is definitely a better offensive option than a slumping Crede. If Crede is playing decent, then he should be the everyday starter, of course. But Crede was definitely in a bad frame of mind at the plate the few weeks before he got injured.
  4. I love having BA off the bench. The one thing we've lacked all year, besides in games where Thomas was off, was some righty power off of the bench. If there's 2 outs and we're down 1, as much as I like Ozuna, Anderson is a much better option against someone like J.C. Romero.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:20 AM) You will feel real sick to your stomach when Timo is the man that comes off the bench in the playoffs instead of someone good. It would have happened no matter who we got.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:18 AM) It's over, finally. No more speculation. I feel relieved and rejuvenated, yet at the same time I feel sick to my stomach that we couldn't get anything done. I'm definitely happy it's over with. I honestly think that all the talk (Griffey Jr.) might have been a distraction to the team. In a way, you could get the sense we kept waiting for someone else on the team to spark the offfense. Now, it's up to the team we've had all year to get it done down the stretch.
  7. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:16 AM) .206/.254/.286 Why does Blum get a pass? Because he's been able to play every single infield position. You can't find many MLB caliber players who can play all infield positions. You can find plenty of guys who could do what Timo is doing. Also, it's not like we gave up a lot to get Blum.
  8. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:12 AM) I was thinking the same thing...I looked at his numbers and they haven't been as bad as the hate he gets... I mean, we have high expectations for someone playing in place of crede, especially at the plate??? Blum's not the type of guy who's going to spark a team. He's very soft spoken, and not very dynamic on the field. He's very much like Crede in terms of his personality. I sure don't mind the guaranteed 0-4 that we were getting from the 3b position before the injury to Crede.
  9. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:12 AM) Timo > Blum offensively. 'Nuff said. Says who? Blum is extremely versatile, while someone like Timo is easily replaceable.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:09 AM) Geoff Blum has a hit or more in 9 of his last 12 games. Why so much hate for this man from everyone? He's just about the least of our problems. Before his defensive disaster yesterday, he had been superb in the field. He had a huge double in extra innings to beat the Twins, and he's had some solid ABs lately. He definitely should not be the scapegoat.
  11. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:05 AM) So what was this thread originally about? Yeah, can someone please change it back to the original title?
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:52 AM) Why is that? I don't know, it's just a feeling I have that I would rather just sit back and enjoy the playoff games if we make it. Since you never know if/when you'll get back, I'd rather not feel the need to analyze every single pitch. The one thing I never wanted to do is make my fellow Sox fans think that I'm not rooting for the Sox. And while I'm in the spotlight, I wanted to apologize for all the Timo sexual jokes I made this year. I honestly had no clue they were being received so poorly, and all it took was one person to ask me to stop for me to do so.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) Im going to back Fathom up here, yes, Tony backing up Fathom (thats f***ed up). Fathom, while often putting a negative spin on things, does tend to try and look at things at the big picture, and at TIMES, AT TIMES, will give credit where credit is due. There are some here that only seem to come around when the Sox lose, or are heading on a slide, and not when they have won 3 or 4. Fathom is a good poster, and brings good discussion to this site. I do however hate him. Yeah, things sure seemed a lot quieter last night when the Sox were winning. I know people have jobs, etc. that might influence when they can post, etc. However, there are a lot of us that are in game threads no matter what the score is. I've already said that I won't have a single post in the game threads if we make the playoffs.
  14. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:44 AM) Thank you. GREAT post. Nobody has ever bit their tongue when being either negative or positive. If you can make a statement and factually back it up, you'll have no problems. It's only those that are overly-negative or overly-positive who are blasted, and rightfully so. Like I said yesterday, the best thing about this site is that it's soxtalk.com, and not soxcheerleading.com.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:38 AM) Where is everybody getting ripped for being negative? How come I just don't see it? Fathom has managed to stick around and he at times is the most negative fan you're going to come across. Sometimes people go over the top with their negativity and are called on it, then claim they're getting flamed or blasted. I just don't see it. I think I've been allowed to stick around because I actually give reasons for why I say negative things. Also, I'm not a bandwagon jumper like so many people on this board are.
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) How did I know this would somehow turn into a Timo bash ??? Just so you know Jim, I was totally joking about that. I've even said recently that Timo has one of the better chances on the team to get a hit it seems. Is there ever a bad time for a CLEAN Timo joke?
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) The Sunday line-up should be disbanded until the division is clinched. No kidding. And if ONE player needs a rest, that's fine...sit him that day. But no more lineups with 3 starters on the bench.
  18. The funny thing is how much dip he has in his mouth. In the minors, you risk getting fined if you're caught with it.
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) Well you are right of course but the Indians can't take 3 games by swishing a shot from 45 feet out, this ain't basketball. If it was basketball, Timo would definitely be "that guy" on the team who came in to shoot FTs at the end of the close game because of his "veteran poise".
  20. Super prospect on the Marlins just hit a grand slam in his first career AB.
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) We coulda been undefeated this season if... Most people probably think that I believe we'd be undefeated if Ozzie managed better.
  22. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) Not the worst of days after all. I'm not a big believer in miracles and that's practically what it would take to overcome a 7 game lead with 30 to play. After what I saw happen in the Illinois/Arizona game this year, I don't think anything is final until there game is over/divison is clinched.
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) Yeah but that didn't happen. Numbers can be massaged any way we want. The division will be won head to head, just like it is every single year. Yep, they all count as a W or L in the standings. There have been a lot of "if this, then this" that have happened for the Sox. For the most part, it's all been positive. We could easily be like 3-10 vs KC this year....but no one mentions something like that.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:01 AM) f*** yes indians lose All in all, a productive day.
  25. YES SIR!!! Indians lose 4-3.
