Changing the mojo.. Sox-D'backs 6/15/05
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) He did. When? Sorry, but I can go without Hawk whining about the umpires for just one inning. Garland got beat by throwing meatballs down the plate, not because he was getting squeezed. Pods swung at ball four over his plate.

Here's an idea for Pods: Draw a f***ing walk!

Want to see what happens to a team built to play smallball when the park is playing small? This series does not make our chances look very good the rest of this summer when the ball is flying out of the Cell.

This s*** would have never happened tonight if the Diamondbacks followed the Ozzie Guillen style of managing and benched 3 of his starters after winning the first 2 games of the series.

Welcome back to reality Mr. Garland. Maybe you don't want to throw a first pitch get me over to someone with immense power. Where's all the people saying not to worry because we have the best record in baseball?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) Even getting Thomas back isn't helping. If we're going to try and win games playing smallball, Frank isn't going to help us out much. Right now, we have a very poor mix of players in our starting lineup. Nd speed besides the leadoff hitter, hardly anyone that can draw walks, and too many easy outs right now.

No matter what happens here, Garland should not be pitching to Gonzo with first base open.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) HE doesn't. Our hitters just make it look like he does. This has been an absolute sickening performance by our hitters tonight. We've made absolutely no effort to try and draw walks from a terrible pitcher tonight.

Quick, disturbing stat: Scott Podsednik has drawn 3 walks in his last 24 games, after having 23 walks in his previous 22 games.

Brown to return to Illini
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) and how would you know this, from what ive seen and here is that Dee is a very nice guy and didnt seem to have any problems with anyone and told Weber to take him out of games b4 Luther. My brother was in quite a few classes with Dee last semester, and they talked about stuff when doing group projects. As it goes without saying, Dee's not the perfect angel that a lot of Illini fans make him out to be. Dee wants the money NOW!
-
Brown to return to Illini
Trust me, Dee is looking for any and every possible way to stay in the draft. By far, his last option is to return to the Illini and play without his buddies Luther and Deron. Besides what you read in the paper, I know for a fact that Dee's not exactly a fan of Bruce Weber.

Pitcher Brendan Donnelly of the Angels was ejected
QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Isn't it Gary? But anyway, I never really liked Brendan Donnelly always thought he was kinda cocky s... :finger I've talked to some people that played in the Frontier League with Donnelly, and they also say he was just a massive asshole.

Pitcher Brendan Donnelly of the Angels was ejected
I find it hillarious that the Angels are b****ing about Jose Guillen using his "inside info" to turn in Donnelly. Who the f*** cares, if a guy is cheating, he has no one to blame but himself. I'd put a lot of money on a bet that says there will be a massive brawl between these teams before their series is over.

Crazy Carl
The more I hear from Everett, the more I'm convinced he'd be a perfect fit for Dusty and the Cubs.

With all the lefties the DBacks have, they're a good match-up against our pitchers, besides Buehrle.

What's El Duque's deal?
If you couldn't see that his bad starts were just waiting to happen, then you weren't paying attention to his early starts. He had amazing luck early in the season avoiding the big inning, even though he gave up a ton of runners. His WHIP is a pathetic 1.60.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) Contreras has one horribly outing and people are ready to chop off his head. Yeah, I definitely mistyped when I said earlier that Contreras is struggling. He had a great start at Colorado before last night's debacle. Also, last night with Contreras didn't bother me because at least he got beat cause he was hit hard, and didn't walk people. Now, Duque on the other hand looks like absolute trash.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) Typical Twins victory there...sheesh Not only that, but we lost ground to just about every possible wild card team. Also, the Indians seem to have found their hitting shoes. That team had too many weapons to struggle all season.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 03:19 AM) let me ask, has anyone seen Baj pitch other than those living in that state? I mean really, don't you think if he was that good he would have at least been mentioned by scouts and our managment? I just don't think we need to get excited about this guy. Game over twins win on abloop hit. Baj has good numbers, but unless he's improved his stuff and command, I don't think he's going to help this team.

Twins win on a blooper by S. Stewart. That noise you hear is the SOS signal coming from US Cellular.

Do we need another starting pitcher?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) And Duque's making almost half of what those guys are making this season. In the inflated off-season market for starting pitchers, the Sox did very well to get El Duque for that price in the first place. With all the problems we had with our 5th starters over the past few seasons, if you had asked if El Duque would have won 7 games in mid June, would you take it? Of course you would. He's a second half pitcher as well, even though I haven't been pleased with his last few starts. That's the thing, without looking at stats or any numbers, I'm just making my statement with what I observe happening when I watch him pitch. I don't like Duque's command, stuff, or attitude on the mound right now. I know Hawk loves to say how Duque likes to pitch with guys on, but that's not going to work in the 2nd half of the year when the ball's flying out of the park. Duque looks like he can't get a lefty out to save his life right now either.

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) i understand that yes. just saying if we do trade and it does not work out. then what do we do trade again? Then it wasn't your year. I just think a lot of us have doubts about this team making the playoffs with this particular roster. The Indians are beginning to scare me also, as they're playing good baseball as their offense begins to come around. Their bullpen is so much better than it was last year, so they're actually winning games that they lead late.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) I don't know if this has generally been true, but this is not 'just another example' of that. It's Troy freaking Glaus, he hits everything hard, and he's done little wrong this entire year. Really, Shingo did pretty well here, given the situation. Glaus had been pretty awful for a long time before the last few days. In the Twins series last week, he couldn't hit a thing. We haven't made very good pitches to him, and like usual, he's kicked our ass.

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) we get blown out a few games and everyone demands a trade. what if we do trade in the future and the trade does not pan out? then what? just my two cents. A lot of us weren't naive to this teams potential short-comings. Even when we were busy sweeping Colorado last week, many of us were saying we needed bullpen help and a back-up infielder.
