Ozzie will let AJP hit here, and it's the right choice. AJP and Garland have a good rhythm going tonight. Ozzie hates to use his back-up catcher anyway in a game unless necessary.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 01:21 AM) Damn, that curve of Greinke's is making us look silly. And that's no knock on the hitters. Yes, he has a great curve tonight. Pods is a good match-up against a curveball pitcher, because he typically looks to slap it to left. Thus, he keeps his hands back more than the rest of our hitters, and he's able to pull the slow stuff.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) I wonder if they will give Rowand 3 days off in a row. Tues. - Thurs. Aren't we facing a lefty tomorrow? Rowand better be playing then.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) I believe implied in that is the idea that we won't be playing .500 ball the rest of the year, and that we've put ourselves in great shape. No, I understand what they're saying, I just don't think it's a wise attitude. Of course, this has nothing to do with the actual team, as Hawk, DJ, etc. aren't the ones on the field. However, I'm sure that type of statistic will be used by some people on this board in an effort to suggest we don't need to make any changes, etc.

If Everett struggles so much in his career against Greinke, why did we play him tonight? Does anyone know what Rowand's career numbers are against Greinke?

Not sure if I'm the only one, but I absolutely HATE the thinking and philosophy I've heard from Hawk, DJ, and some other members of the media about what type of average record the Sox could have the rest of the year, and still have "x" amount of wins. Sounds way too much like playing not to lose.

Great play by Iguchi before. Easily the most range he's shown this year.

Where's SSI to tell Iguchi to stop pulling the ball tonight? Iguchi is so much more dangerous though when he just drives the ball to the right center gap.

Can we not hit a fastball? Greinke looks like Greg Maddux meets Roger Clemens right now.

I've never wanted a quicker 1-2-3 inning than the top of the 3rd there with Weber and his annoying voice in the booth. Thank you Garland!

Greinke always looks great against us, especially this year. For some reason, his fastball looks more like 98mph than 93 mph. We're not going to have a lot of success if we keep taking the 2nd strike right down the plate.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) God, how many times has Pods been picked off this year? And Iguchi promptly grounds out. By my count, it's at least 8 times Pods has been picked off. Or maybe 10, if Jabroni is correct.

Didn't take that fat f***er long to screw us in this game. Pods was clearly safe at first on the replay.

Uribe injured
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) Why do you say that? He looks the same to me. He has a gut that won't let his jersey stay tucked in. I can't tell if that was sarcasm or not. They showed Uribe on the bench last night, and he looked enormous. Uribe also seems a step slower on the bases this year compared to last year (as does Rowand).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) Well it didn't effect him last year. Uribe is definitely heavier this season than last year.

Uribe being overweight this season can't help his back at all.

McCarthy
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:32 AM) I feel Dye is an above average right fielder, and feel he has done a good job for us out there. Other than the missed catch in Oakland, and not hitting the cutoff man early in the season... I like what I have seen. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I must say, I respectfully disagree with your analysis of Dye in the outfield. He has no range, has struggled throwing the ball this season, and doesn't seem to have good instincts in the outfield. Thankfully, Rowand is a good outfielder, but he's surrounded by some very overrated defensive players in LF and RF.

McCarthy
Dye's defense has been nothing but disappointing all season. I'm pretty confident in saying that Ordonez would have made Teahan's blooper look like a pretty routine, difficult catch with his little knee-first slide he used to do. If you watch the replay, that ball landed underneath Dye, not in front of him. Thankfully, Dye has been sensational at the plate lately. He sure has the ability to make the Cell look small when he bats.

I thought Prior wasn't going to start until the end of June?

Nice to see Hermanson getting ahead of the hitters again, and keeping the ball down. Good win, all things considered.

Good job by Shingo getting ahead in the count. Will Ozzie go with Hermanson or Marte for the 9th?

Great job by Cotts to overcome the leadoff walk. He's definitely the type of pitcher you'd rather let start the inning instead of come in with people on base.

Great swing by Crede. For the life of me, I don't know why a team would ever throw him an inside fastball with 2 strikes. Almost all of Crede's power this year has been on inside pitches.

Wow, I'll take it!! That was very similar to AJP's hit against the Blue Jays that won us the first game of that series.

Still wish that Cotts would have been brought in to face Stairs. My reason is this: McCarthy obviously had no command of anything but his fastball. Stairs is a very dangerous fastball hitter, especially to the opposite field. I was very disappointed that AJP decided to call for an outside fastball. McCarthy's best chance at getting Stairs out was to jam him with an inside fastball with some movement. As for Viz, if he's going to throw fastballs to righties, he needs to get it inside. With Viz throwing so many sliders, you can tell that hitters are sitting on the outside pitch. An outside fastball just ends up being meat.
