  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) How about putting some runs on the board. Getting runners in when you have men on 2nd and 3rd with less than two outs. Play like they have heart. Thats what I want. And a side note to all of the rah rah boys: And before people start questioning peoples loyalty because a person may have a disenting opinion. Remember people here spend a lot of time talking whitesox and watching every game. I bleed whitesox black and white just as much as anyone. I want a good product on the field. I expect a lot from this team. They have a great start, DONT f***ING waste that great start or rest on your laurels. The KC Royals had a great start two years ago, guess what they finished 3rd. You have to play consistantly, and its a marathon. Dont question peoples loyality because they dont say, hey they are have 7 out of 9 guys batting sub 260. YEAH. I personally spent a few grand to cart my entire family down to tuscon for two weeks every year for the last 5 years. Go to soxfest, go to about 20-30 games a year. I never miss a f***ing game. Before any of you rah rah boys question our loyalty get a clue.
  2. QUOTE(jerseysox @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) who would you say are going to be the first basemen on this year's all-star team? i think the guy who is first in homers and second in ribbies among first basemen will probably be on that team, no? i don't live in chicago, so perhaps i've avoided it, but does everyone out there suffer from twin-is envy? PK won't be making the all-star team. I can guarantee you that.
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) So if they lose this game it's a 4-5 road trip, they lost 1 1/2 games to the Twins in the standings over that time period, and have their next 18 of 24 games at home. Well said. This road trip could have been much worse. We honestly got lucky as hell in the Cubs Saturday game against Zambrano, and could have easily lost that extra inning Angels game.
  4. QUOTE(jerseysox @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) what's the logic? paulie is 0 for 3 today so you want to get rid of him? Wow, I don't recall I ever said that. I'm just saying that if I had the choice, I'd take Morenau, no questions asked. Also, for the person who said Garcia and Silva isn't a pretty even match-up.....I disagree. Silva has got off to a great start, but he still gives up a ton of hits in a game. His ERA is also better than he's really been because of a few unearned runs. In the long run, I bet they end up with similar numbers.
  5. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) i am not saying there great but look at the record they are in first place and best record in the bigs. what more do you want! 2003 KC Royals. I pray that we don't end up like them, and I think we're more legit than that team was. However, we're going NOWHERE if we continue to have easy outs in our lineup.
  6. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) I would take Lew Ford over Everett and possibly Frank, Morneau over PK, Stewart over Pods, Jones over Dye, Cuddyer over Crede, their plantoon over Uribe, Mauer over A.J. Santana over Buerhle, Radke over Garland, Silva over Garcia, Mays over El-Duque and only Contreras over Lohse. Not to mention their entire bullpen over ours with the lone exception of Hermy. I'd take Uribe over their SS platoon in the long run. Also, Garcia and Silva is a pretty even match-up.
  7. QUOTE(jerseysox @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) are you joking? morneau hasn't even played a full season yet. paulie is a proven 30-plus homer guy. i'm glad we're not overreacting on this board or anything. I'd take Morneau over PK in a heartbeat.
  8. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) reading some of these posts makes me sick saying the game is over, and this team sucks. I know it may look bleak but its not over till its over some of you call yourselfs fans well try acting like it and have faith. And for the people saying we suck we are palying the hottest team in baseball right now! just have some patience Remember when we were the hottest team in baseball, and everyone said that we weren't allowed to complain about anything? All of us on here are Sox fans, I can guarantee you that. However, it's painfully obvious that our current lineup is not good enough to win the division over the long haul. That's our biggest concern. f***, you don't even see us trashing Garland that bad for having a terrible inning and throwing a meatball with 2 strikes. Could you imagine how bad he would have been bashed last year if he did the same thing?
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) It's a little annoying. I understand trying to be objective though. I know, I'm the last person to complain about an announcer saying nice things about the opposition. However, he just seems a little too eager to compliment the Rangers at every opportunity.
  10. Does Mike Huff know he's announcing for the Sox, and not the Rangers?
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) They are not better than us...almost 1 through 9 we have better players. Aside from Torii Hunter and maybe Joe Mauer, can you name a guy who they have who is a better player at their position than the guy we have? At least on paper, in terms of career numbers, we have better players at almost every position. Our guys are just hugely underperforming. It's absolutely ridiculous. These guys should be so much better than they are but it seems like they just won't snap out of it. I'd take Morneau at 1b, Stewart in LF, and Jones in RF. The only positions I feel like we're better than the Twins are 2nd base and SS. Cuddyer has looked better than Crede this year.
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) I just want to see the White Sox put a 5 spot up sometime, this is just pissing me off. Hard to have a consistent rally when there's SO many easy outs in your lineup. Also, our inability to draw a walk really kills us in rallies.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) Who is showing that they are coming out of it? I think he meant that no one really is showing signs. I do like the way Dye is swinging the bat right now. Clearly, our biggest offensive problem is Crede. The person I'm worried about is Pods (sorry Rowand44). So much of our offense has been based on him getting on base, and he seems to not be reaching base nearly as much as he was during our great stretch.
  14. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) It's simple the Twins are built much better than we are. Their hitters are"hitters," they 8 Iguchi's in their line-up, everyone except Hunter. All the Twins hitters hit opposite way and that's why they have such a solid line-up. Their pitching staff doesn't walk anyone and their bullpen is so deep, that they can afford to take a pitcher out in the 6th or 7th without wasting the pen. Let's face it they are better than us again, we are very lucky that we have a 3.5 game lead. The scary thing is Johan and Nathan are struggling a little bit now. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) Garland's defense let him down a bit too - Uribe should have turned that double play...Texiera was running far, far harder than Uribe was on that ground ball last inning. If he turns that, then the inning ends with 1 run given up. Dye should never have let that last ball past him either. I agree about Uribe's lack of intensity when turning that DP. However, that inning was solely Garland's fault. He made bad pitch after bad pitch. He even got bailed out on a nice catch by Dye.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) We've got plenty of guys capable of playing small ball, but our guys just aren't smart enough to realize it. The speed doesn't matter if you're playing smart ball. We've stopped playing smart ball, and it is costing us a ton of runs. If we're designed for smallball, Ozzie needs to try and play that way. Hell, the only time he used a hit-and-run in the last month was with Widger on first, and Uribe at the base. Why not use it for ground ball guys like Pods, Ozuna, Iguchi, and Harris?
  17. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) atleast we all no the good o jon garland is back...i knew this wouldnt last long Garland actually pitched very well for the first 5 innings. He got burned on some s***ty fastballs/location in the last inning. He should have used his curve more on righties....he had a great curve today.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) The Dodgers were on fire for a few weeks there too. We are so much better of a team than this on paper. Especially at the bat. This is just so freaking frustrating...every single guy on this team other than Iguchi and Pods are hitting well below their career averages. That's the problem, our pitching is so much worse on paper than it has been so far this year. Will Contreras and Garland continue to pitch like all-stars the rest of the year? Very doubtful (but possible). El Duque will likely be touch-and-go the rest of the season with his injury.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Yeah, maybe some of the critics were right about us finishing 3rd or 4th. While I don't think that's going to happen, it makes you wonder how this team has had the best record in baseball for over a month. We were winning games earlier on we had absolutely no reason to win. How many games were we on here saying how lucky we got, etc. Well, our hitting is worse now than it was back then, and our pitching has not been getting that tough 3rd out in the big inning. Our smallball approach is simply awful. We have 2 players capable of playing that way, and their ability is minimized by terrible hitters batting right after them.
  20. Are we allowed to greet this team at the airport and boo Ozzie now? Just kidding....I think.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Unlike earlier this year, we are not putting long winning streak together anymore. We are hovering. Playing sub 500 ball. Guess what if you play sub 500 ball the rest of the division will catch up. The Twins are a better team than we are. It will take the Sox playing great ball for the last 100 games of the season or so in order for us to beat them for the division. I don't think this team is good enough to play great ball over the course of the season. Too many easy outs.
  22. Ozzie......he's allowed 7 runs, including 6 this inning. Take his f***ing ass out.
  23. Way to leave him in Ozzie, you dumb motherf***er. Garland should have been pulled right after Mench's homer. Dye's defense back to reality with a terrible play there in the outfield. He should have just played it off the bounce.
  24. Quite frankly, this Sox team sucks right now.
  25. QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) Well that really sucks. I knew we should've taken him out while we still could have. Oh well. Still 3.5 games up with Frank's bat coming to help us along with a trade Im sure. I'm the biggest hindsight guy there is, but no way do you take Garland out for Mench before. He had made some good pitches on Mench in this game. I do find it pathetic that Ozzie didn't even have anyone warming up.
