Sox line-up vs Cubs
Everett should not play a single second in the outfield at Wrigley this wknd. Dye is swinging the bat much better now, and Everett has been simply awful at the plate. Even though Dye's had some mishaps in the outfield this year, Everett is easily one of the worst outfielders in the majors. If we're going to lose to the Cubs, I'd much rather it happens because of what they do, and not Everett misplaying balls in RF (anyone remember Gload in RF vs the Cubs last year?).

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 18, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) So how was Ozuna's defense at 3rd base in place of Crede? It would be nice to have a solid defensive backup with a decent bat in case Crede keeps up his horrible slump. He had one ball hit to him, and it was a routine play. I couldn't tell anything about his 3b ability today, but if something happens long-term to Crede, Ozuna isn't the answer.

Great job by Cliff against Mench, who looks just amazing at the plate right now.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) Cliff Politte comes in? I don't get this move at all. Why not use your guys who actually need some work so they don't suck when you actually need them in an important situation. This is a pretty important situation. It's only a 5 run lead, and with 2 on and some very dangerous hitters coming up, you don't want to let the Rangers back into the game. Cliff was definitely the right call in this situation.

PK seems to be hitting the ball on the line again. He's still opening up a tad early, but he's getting closer.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 18, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) im surprised were starting to hit drese pretty good, usually hes pretty tough, hes a good warmup for the cubs staff Drese has been awful this season. I'm beginning to think last year was a fluke for him.

For some reason, I have more confidence with Uribe up with RISP than anyone else. Even though he's the king of the pop up to 2nd base, I still think he's dangerous in those situations.

I'm happy they walked Everett there. Everyone knows how much he's struggled in that particular situation lately.

Wohoo! Great job Dye.

You wont see AJP walk twice in a game very often.

Please no DP here AJP! This is a situation in which he was real bad last season with the Giants.

Does it seem like we never try a hit-and-run?

Meanwhile, D. Ward botches a grounder, and the Cubs have comeback to take the lead again in the 9th against Mesa.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) Not even close on Pods Look at Drese's slid-step. He's extremely quick to the plate. Also, Barajas has a very quick release.

Hey Ozzie, Drese has a slide-step. That's now 3 of our last 5 outs made on the bases. That's not Ozzieball.....that's Stupidball.

QUOTE(ptatc @ May 18, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) Everybody told me I was over reacting when I complained about this in ST. We needed to work on base running then and we still need to work on it. I was mad when Pods got picked off twice last week in one game, but that's a lot more understandable than guys like Everett and AJP getting picked off.

AJP getting picked off looks to have cost us a run. Hopefully, Buehrle can continue to blank the Rangers.

We have got to stop making outs on the bases. There's a difference between being aggressive, and playing dumb baseball.

Game Thread 5-18-2005 Sox vs Rangers
Terrible inning there by our hitters. Swinging at balls a foot off the plate is not a good recipe for success.

Game Thread 5-18-2005 Sox vs Rangers
Good job by Buehrle overcoming just a terrible non-called 3rd strike against Tex.
-
Game Thread 5-18-2005 Sox vs Rangers
Umpire screws Buehrle on a pitch that clearly got a lot of the plate, and Texas gets two straight hits after it.

I'm honestly convinced that one of the main reasons for Rowand swinging good right now is that he's no longer hitting behind guys like PK, Dye and Everett. Those guys don't have near the quality at-bats that Pods and Iguchi do. Thus, when Rowand gets to the plate, he's able to see more pitches before he hits and is in a better frame of mind.
