Game Thread 5-15-2005 Sox vs Orioles
QUOTE(JimH @ May 15, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) So what exactly is Guillen doing wrong again? JimH.....there's nothing that Ozzie could have done after the 3rd inning or so. I apologize if I didn't make my point clear. I don't blame Ozzie for this game at all. Rather, I just would have liked to see us try to create some offense in the first few innings when we had leadoffs guys on base. In the scheme of things, it doesn't look like one manufactured run would have mattered in the end.

The one thing I've learned from this wknd is that Cotts can't be counted on for damage control situations. His wildness just seems to flame the fire.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 15, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) Oh stop it. First of all, Podsednik is trying to bunt for a hit. The last thing they're doing is playing stationary baseball, Iguchi is constantly trying to hit it up the middle or the opposite way. That's exactly the point though. We've been doing a great job with the top of our order not playing stationary baseball. We all know Ozzie can't do anything about the slow, crappy hitters in the middle of our order right now. However, we've been very successful at having guys like Pods bunt in similar situations, especially when we're facing a confident pitcher like Bedard. It seems like Pods has got on nearly every time he's bunted this season. I'm not complaining about Iguchi's approach......it's just that he's very prone to hitting into double plays with that particular approach. It's great for when Pods can steal 2nd base, etc.

Haha....I'd be a lot more excited if Cotts didn't put this game out of reach. Nice to see though.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 15, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) What, pray tell, is he supposed to do? No reason for Pods not to be bunting in the 3rd inning after the leadoff walk to Crede. Pods is our best bunter, and is a good bet to beat out even an average bunt. Also, we don't utilize Iguchi in terms of hit-and-run. Iguchi hits a ton of grounders, and will continue to hit into a lot of double plays if we try and play stationary baseball. The combination of Pods on the bases and Iguchi at the plate should be perfect for hit-and-runs, even if Pods can't get a good jump against a lefty.

Am I the only one sickened by the fact our two RF options right now are Dye and Timo? Seems like we can't benefit either way by benching Dye or playing him.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 15, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Crede hasn't hit for a good 2 weeks, then he makes an awful error. That's game. No offense, but why is the game over now? Only one run scored on Crede's error. This game was lost by terrible ABs and Ozzie sitting back and waiting for the 3 run homer against a pitcher who has allowed one homer all year. Our offense has got to pick it up, because we can't count on bloops and seeing-eyed singles from Iguchi all season as our main source of offense.

You can't have a f***ing reliever who is just as likely to hit a batter, throw a wild pitch, or walk the first hitter as he is to get the batter out. Cotts is not a major league pitcher....period. His career ERA blows.

Why not let Widger hit there? He's easily a better power threat vs a lhp than Everett is. Oh well, terrible pitching and managing tonight.

The Ozzie Guillen special.....leave your batter in for one batter too long (even though Garcia should have never started the 7th).

Good job by Garcia thought retiring Mora and Tejada. Sox need to keep being tough outs in this game like they've been doing.

Since when did Garcia throw 88 mph fastballs? I'm fairly certain that he was throwing 94-95 mph last year when we got him.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 15, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) Freddy sucks donkey balls today. Tie f***ing game. Freddy's looked pretty bad all season. He's been saved by some great pitching conditions, which probably lowered his ERA by about 1 full run.

Garcia has yet to prove anything to me this season. He's pitching like absolute s*** tonight. He's lost like 3 mph on his fastball, and has no bite on his curve.

Wow. That was as lucky a hit as you'll see by Iguchi. However, after the umpiring s*** last inning, we were due a break.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 14, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) I don't care if Willie is out by 15 feet....he should be running in this situation. Well done Willie....and a great swing by Uribe there. It was imperative we get some early runs against Cabrera to knock down his confidence level that he surely had coming into tonight.

QUOTE(SHAFTR @ May 14, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) I'd give it to them as well to send a point to the fans. If you are grabbing a ball to help out your team, the Umps will call in favor of the opposition. True, but someone said that the guy had an Orioles jacket on. Is that true?

I have a serious question about Garcia: Why does he rarely throw his splitter/change-up now? When we first got him last year, that was his strikeout pitch. He never seems to throw it anymore.

Oreos vs. Sox Game Thread (5/14 @ 6:05 p.m. CT)
That was a terrible call by the umpire. The runner wasn't even close to 3rd base by the time Dye would have got the ball. However, if we continue to give up 2 strike hits to an A ball player.....it's hard to complain that the umps are screwing us.
-
AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Even though Garland has two complete game shut-outs this season, tonight was the best game he pitched. Against some very good hitters, he made great pitches. Ironic that the most trouble he had was against an A ball player.

Oh man, that would have really helped. 3 more outs to get...who will be pitching?

Big insurance run on 3rd base right now. I'm predicting Ozzie will let Marte face Palmeiro.
