  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) I think the comment from Hahn about "take fewer swing and miss" guys implies they wanted more advanced type bats. thus less HS and more college bats. I love the approach of guys with high walk/k ratios and baseball players overall. I think all of the explanations make sense. I too am surprised of no LHP but I guess it may have fallen that way.
  2. Surprised by the lack of high schoolers overall. Thought they had stated a desire to take many. Smokescreen?
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) No chance the sox sign him then. That's one of the top water polo schools in the nation. Must have picked him knowing they won't sign him and save some money. Think if you don't sign you lose the slot value.
  4. Think Crowe still available. Per Gonzalez twitter he apologizes to fans for being ineligible at end of May. Is that the off field? Grades or supplements or ineligible benefits? Think maybe grades cause he said chance to be reinstated.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) Yes, strikeouts are just enormous. You go back to high k guys like Adam Dunn and Jim Thome, who both provided 40 homers and a lot of on base, their k rates in the minor leagues weren't all that high. They are only going to go higher with Kendall IMO. I know strikeouts were considered no big deal for a while, but to me that made no sense. The reasoning was an out was an out. But even then, runners couldn't advance, and it blew off putting a ball in play gave you a decent shot at a hit. Strikeouts for hitters meant nothing, yet k-rate for pitchers seemed almost most important. Very odd. Yeah, I guess I am old but I hate K's. They do nothing for the team. The k with a runner on third with one or less outs sends me into a rant. Fast guys need to put the ball in play and pressure the defense. I love the pressure speed puts on the defensive teams but only if done correctly. The talk of a high strikeout guy as a top of the order hitter I don't get. #9 ok. "Fast" guys who steal at 50-60% success rate I don't get either. For pitchers, I hate walks. K's are great but gimme guys with low WHIPs all day long.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 01:39 AM) http://www.hardballtimes.com/how-many-stri...ts-is-too-many/ Nice find. The article is from May 2010. Plenty of time for the first group of players to make MLB and I recognize no one. I don't follow as close as some but even his subsequent groups have very very few useful players. With regard to Kendall, a k rate of 26% as a freshman and 25% now makes me want to pass. If they couldn't fix his k's, I am not sure our organization has any track record of success. It is shocking to me how much players strikeout today compared to the past.
  7. I think /hope some of Collins issues is the lack of help in the lineup. Trying to do to much on occasion cause he knows no one else will.
  8. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ May 28, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) I thought a comment by Marco Paddy to Steve Stone and Jason Benetti was interesting as he indicated that, now that Luis Robert was in the fold, he had to go back to work finding the next Luis Robert. Marco seems to believe in the quantify of quality players concept, especially with regard to signing 15 and 16 year old International players. For the next 2 years when he is limited to giving any particular player a $300K bonus, I wonder if he relishes the chance to finding a wide variety of $300K bonus players. In a way and for the next 2 years, there might be a player who another team might have offered $250K that the White Sox will offer $300K just because all their cap money has to be used in smaller chunks the next 2 years. It will be a challenge for sure. The opposite is also true where another team can offer 310-325 cause we can't go over 300.
  9. He can be a free agent in 2020. If he continues to be a productive hitter, I talk extension after 2018. I wonder how he would do in left after Melky gone.
  10. Excellent post and thanks for including data. I think it may be that he is trying to hit with more power and may be more of a warning track power type than slugger. Some of the issues you pointed out may also be indicative of a pressing player. We all know Moncada is the future so I figure he knows it also. Did he try to get more pop to fit the profile of a third baseman better? Who knows. Some of this stuff can almost be unconscious as well. I was going to put it that he sits to close to our current third baseman and has contracted Frazieritis.
  11. I wonder how Yolmer would look in center or perhaps he could succeed in a super utility role like a Zobrist. He could even give you some games on the right side of infield. I understand small sample sizes but what kind of odds could you have gotten on a double trifecta of Leury, Avisail, and Yolmer playing regularly all with OBPs over .800 and Frazier, Cabrera, Anderson all barely above .600? edit for spelling
  12. Lambert left his start after 3 innings. 70 pitches. Anyone know if injury or just cause he was struggling?
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 9, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) I have no idea what position Hiura will play. There's also not really a scenario in which he's the BPA. Lets pretend that Hunter Greene, Brendan McKay, Kyle Wright, Royce Lewis and JB Bukauskus will be gone no matter what. That still leaves 2 of: Mackenzie Gore, Pavin Smith, Adam Haseley, Austin Beck, Jeren kendall, Jordon Adell, and Alex Faedo for the Sox to choose from. I didn't even mention HS LHP DL Hall or RHP Shane Baz either and both would be legit options. Sox are in pretty good shape. If a grouping of relatively equal rated players occurs is it likely you take whoever will cut a deal so that you can get some money to use latter? Not sure how common deal making is done beyond the first couple picks.
  14. I have never thought Leury would be worth anything although I pointed out in the past maybe he needed regular at bats to get in a rhythm. This team is the perfect time to test that theory. He has hit in the minors.
  15. Gonna be interesting to see how bullpen used. Robertson used three days in a row so I figure out.
  16. Ok, I have watched and followed some of these last spring games and it's going to be a long season. For you youngsters, when I became a Sox fan Harry was broadcasting for the right team. I can remember him dropping beers down to fans bellow the booth and hearing ice rattle in a cooler on a Sunday morning "Mary Frances Veck and friend" appearance. I remember him being plastered with Stone on a Cub's game "Soto spelled backwards is Otos!" So before we all whine about how the season is going and the rebuild not working, How drunk would Harry get broadcasting this seasons games? I will settle for a clever response or a Harry story from other old fans please.
  17. I understand why we are giving Davidson a chance but I don't see it ending well. Hope it does! but 57ab and 25k is not looking promising.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) Yeah, I guess that's true. That injury probably willl keep him away until June, and he's going to have to play his way to Chicago anyway, so they could 60-day DL him. We'll know soon. Are you able to retroactively go to the last game played or does it start with opening day? If retro and can count rehab seems no brainer.
  19. Bases loaded one out bottom nine. Basabe k Peter k Free baseball Yipee mercifully called
  20. I was for converting before I saw something about him wanting to be a reliever. Hard to go thru the growing pains if the player isn't on board. He still should be sent down for clock purposes as well as he needs to work on command and secondaries.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) He is basically Carlos Sanchez with a lower batting average who plays CF instead of 2B. So you say there's a chance...........
  22. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) I wonder if they could trade for an international bonus slot for next year as a PTBNL type of deal. Make the deal for a PTBNL or cash and then convert it to an international slot on J2. Interesting thought. The official release now says PTBNL or cash. Obviously, doesn't say how much or who or when but I like your idea.

The guys who are veteran/out of options get first crack to prove something. If the veterans are useful they are trade bait. You delay service time considerations on the guys in the minors. Once service time is out of the way if the guy in the majors can be flipped fine. If he has not performed, he can be released and then you begin a wave of auditions using best performing minor leaguer. If they stick, fine , if they don't swap out. It will be interesting because the WS also need to look into the future. It can be assumed we will make trades and often where we get more prospects back. The influx of prospects may cause some 40 man roster decisions. Maybe adding some of our older suspect/prospects to deals as sweetners will help manage that or you add some very young guys who are further from the 40 man.
  24. Tucker + Reed+Whitley/F Perez + Laureano/Stubbs Reed has enjoyed a very nice spring. His MLB strikeouts might be like Moncada in depressing his value. He only had about 250 ab above AA and is 23 years old. Houston would get Q without giving up their prime pitching prospects but Sox would get a couple top 100 prospects and good depth in the package and 3 position prospects and a pitcher in the second/third wave of sox pitching prospects.
  25. The rational for keeping Avi is he is 25 and may still amount to something with the bat. He has 1500 MLB at bats is the counter argument and defense will never be a forte. I can't believe I am writing this but Leury offers defensive versatility, is only 25 and has a little over 300 MLB at bats. In the minors, he has hit, especially with consistent playing time. You could argue he is as likely to blossom as Avi. On a rebuilding team I guess it is worth a shot. I would try to give him regular at bats to gain some comfort/rhythm. Let him platoon in center and sub in other places. Chance of him being something I would put at 10% but this is what you do in a rebuild.
