  1. While he will not hold anyone back, I don't see Roach being released. He's pitched very well and could see him in Chicago if anyone is hurt or traded to avoid any semblance of rushing a prospect.
  2. And on rehab, Avi has walked 3 times. Hope springs eternal.
  3. It is right around when Kevin Smith took over as primary catcher, but Omar has hit .286 with a OPS of .800 in his last 15 games. I know small sample but anyone notice if his d has improved? Maybe playing hurt with everyone else out? playing too much? Maybe fits better as a 1-2 times per rotation.
  4. I think of it very simply. The batter has a really good idea what is coming and he still can't handle it. All the things you mention enter into it but for any pitcher any one may come into play. The exception to my own statement might be the guy with four good pitches that can get you out because you can't guess what is coming. Maybe great is here it is , it don't matter, you aint hitting it!
  5. Wow, I remember when Maiker Feliz was the next thing and now listed as a bench bat. Then I checked and he is still 19. LOL
  6. I have looked in the game summary but there were no comments from him. It would be a lot more helpful if he simply said, dead arm, couldn't find release point, etc. The fact he was left in so long makes me think injury less likely. Sometimes things off the field can interfere. Last year second half his walk rate really improved so he has done it before.
  7. Of course the answer is you never have enough as injuries/performance will whittle the group. If there is a surplus, of course it becomes currency to improve another part of the team. But lets take another look........ We are very thin on left handed prospects. Guerrero, Clarkin, and a few lower level lefties are all lower ceiling players and longer shots in general. The one left handed high ceiling player, Rodon , has an injury history and is a Boras client. Even if he is excellent, when his free agency comes you may not be able to keep and dare I say afford him. I like we took Madrigal but would not of been against an approach of a high ceiling lefty underslot and adding more "tough sign" talent later. Ideally, I would like two really good lefties in my rotation for balance if nothing else and as currently constructed we have one maybe zero.
  8. Is this rust post injury, injury still effecting swing, and/or the inevitable eb and flow of pitchers/coaches seeing some vulnerability in his setup and approach? We have seen him comment on adjusting to being to passive early in the count and consequently being constantly behind in the count. Maybe he needs to adjust setup back a couple of inches to punish the inside fastball at which point they will go offspead away as the ballet of baseball that we love dances.
  9. With Davidson, Palka, Thompson, and Engel you have four guys who have no business being near a good team.
  10. What is up with Roach? AAAA player or is he doing something different? 7 innings no runs one walk 9 k. Think 14 straight scoreless and year long ERA 2.96
  11. Wish I could go. Would like to try something similar in Birmingham. Met several guys in California 2005 during playoffs when my wife surprised and sent my son and I.
  12. On mlb.com today is Rick Hahn in his own words. On the draft he mentioned taking more HS players and if I read it correctly, he says "we are going to sign four". I counted the HS players on the tracker and four are listed as signed. So again, if I am reading it correctly, all the HS players pick 33 and below will not be signing.
  13. Stephens strong thru five. No runs , 2 hits 6 k. September?
  14. I agree, but would rather have 18 than zero LOL.
  15. Way late. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?cid=&lid=&org=145&sc=&sid=milb&t=affiliate&ymd=20180611
  16. Frank Thomas reportedly catcher asked an umpire why it was a ball....."because Frank didn't swing at it" Same story goes around about all batters with great eyes. On umpires, I would tell my young players " There is a reason this ump isn't in the majors". Not sure what you tell a major leaguer. LOL. I agree Ricky needs to go out and get tossed. Players will appreciate it.
  17. This makes total sense. Highly intelligent guy who is thinking to much. He can do it in the pen at max focus/thought. When he gets on the mound, you add one more thing to think about(batter) and it becomes information overload. I knew a guy who hit the golf ball great on the range but had a hundred swing thoughts. When he got on the course adding in one more thing, the pin, overwhelmed him and he broke down. Maybe having someone stand in during part of his side sessions would help. He is just having to think to much to do it right.
  18. At least he is stating he feels good and is healthy. I have wondered about some kind of shoulder issue or something. From your post, I also thought of Covey and it is there in the article as well.
  19. 97pitches probably done. Ok return. Two of the runs unearned. Take them away and we probably say looked great and he might have pitched the sixth. I hope as our guys gain experience, they also improve on d. The little things win championships.
  20. WS already started. Adolfo three run homer in the first. Cease pitching 2k thru two.
  21. Sorry I don't have a link, but I did see a scout with a great track record of about eight major leaguers really went to bat for him. He came in a couple rounds earlier than ranking. Maybe a little savings?????
  22. There is also a component of this on the pitchers command. If the catcher never has to move his mitt on a slightly off the edge pitch, he may get the call. If the catcher sets up outside and has to dive/move significantly inside to catch a pitch, even though it may be over the plate it will often be called a ball.
  23. Will anyone (future sox) be doing a write up on the DSL names to watch?
  24. But last ten games he has hit .188 I wish someone gets hot......soon
  25. I wonder if the recent cool bats in W-S have any effect on Eloy going to Charlotte. Who would you replace him with? Hard to move up guys who are in the midst of a struggle.
