Look at my take on the 40 man in the other thread. It means you expose another player from this list: That means you keep four of Guerrero, Danish, at AAA currently and could get trials this year. AA players Polo, Burr, Mendick, Ruiz. At A+ Forbes So you would protect three of the above instead of four if Hamilton promoted. As far as Danish, I don't know what we have in him. When he was taken off the roster, he was pitching poorly. Now some think he may be useful. Would someone take a chance on him for 50k? Maybe. Give him his chance and let his performance answer the question.
-
I hope so also. Both are rule 5 eligible this off season if not protected so makes sense to challenge them.
-
It is not service time but 40 man roster issues. He doesn't need to be protected until 2019. Danish 2018, so Danish is getting a last chance to stay on the roster or be exposed.
-
This makes total sense. Vieira, though struggling is on the 40 man. Danish gets added to the 40/25 and gets the chance to show if he deserves to be protected this offseason as he would need to be. If he fails, he may be released or outrighted. Hamilton doesn't require offseason protection until after 2019. As roster issues begin to matter, we will see more of this.

Soria traded for Kodi Medeiros and Wilber Perez.

Burdi/Hamilton project as closers. Medieros may end up a setup/LOOGY. Be happy that his lower rank in our system reflects that our system is strong. -

Hamilton not on the 40 man and doesn't have to be this year to be protected, so I don't think it will be him.

2019 Currently pretty easy guys you want to keep: Hamilton, Burdi, Collins, Booker, Call, Hansen, Dunning, Flores, Lambert, Rutherford. Bunch of fringe guys like Zangari, Elliott, Villa, Morrison, Foster, Puckett, Fisher will be under a lot of pressure.

Ok here is the exercise in rosterbation. The link has updated post trade so 40 is at 39. Free Agents to be: Shields, M Gonzales, Santiago. 36. Have to add back Wellington Castillo 37. Likely cut: Volstad, Garneau, Skole, LaMarre, Farquahar(spring invite), Engel, Minaya, 30 so ten openings with Tilson/Cordell on the roster but barely. Tilson missed a year and younger and better center fielder. Cordell probably gets a Sept call up to have a last chance. Easy adds: Zavala, Kopech, Stephens, Adams, Cease, Medieros. 36 That means you keep four of Guerrero, Danish, at AAA currently and could get trials this year. AA players Polo, Burr, Mendick, Ruiz. At A+ Forbes So there will be some decisions. Last year people were very unhappy when Guerrero was exposed. 2019 will be a lot tougher.
-
Wow the above assessment is very different from where Cease is valued on this board. Many see a top of the rotation arm and here they say significant struggle unless definite improvement.

credit to chitownsportsfan for finding this link. This is a pretty amazing resource, wow. This was in the Soria trade discussion and since several people have brought this up, I thought it was worth puling out. For 2018, it won't be hard to make room for prospects. For 2019, I count at least 9 I would want to protect. So this year should be okay. A few people seemed to not understand, all your MLB players (25 man and non 60 day disabled list) are included in the 40. All 60 day disabled list players at the end of year must be put back onto the 40 man or waived.

Trace Thompson with a home run off Tommy Kahnle. Baseball is a funny game.

MLB.com now has him listed in our top 30 at #19! Had been 13 in Brewers. -

Good we included some money to improve the return. -
Fits the adage: you never have to much pitching.

Fegan had a tweet that he may miss the rest of the season.

I looked at the current 40 man and it is easy to guess that 6-8 players won't be here next year based on expiring contracts, hopefully a trade or two, and outright releases. That said, I think we will still have a crunch and it will get worse in 2019. Yankees, who are further along than us, with a strong farm had around 5 players selected in the major and minor league portions. It makes sense to trade some of those off after the season and before the draft if you can. Hoped Future Sox might do this as next project after mid season update....hint hint hint.

DSL Rallies to win in ten 5-4. Only sixth win off year and 5 runs is about a weeks worth for them.

I'll tell you what, they have a terrible record but it is due to no offense. Their pitching has actually been pretty good. Tough to pitch when you pretty much know if you give up a run you are toast.
-
Thats in part what I was referring to. Getting bigger with age while being injured may mean a little extra weight also. Just guessing. Let him spend the offseason training with Robert LOL! I think he has the work ethic to be fine in left once he gets used to it.
-
I wonder with all the injuries he has had if he is simply not in great shape to run in the outfield? Or maybe adjusting to the different angle from RF to LF. Hard to imagine a guy who was thought at one point to be a RF now is not good in left. May show why he is not up or at least provides a reason,"There are things he needs to improve on" speech.

Holy Cow! Winston Salem wins 17-0!!!! Kubat LHP old at 25 makes his second start. 5 scoreless no walks and 10 ks. Anyone know what is up with him starting?
