Game 2! Sox vs. O's WCIU Start time after tiebreaker
Kalapse replied to Jake's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 08:22 PM) crede is still doing that lame hit-it-to-right-field thing that he was doing when he started slumping. he's trying to guide it. lexi, by the way, is the s***. The ironic thing is, he's pretty much incapable of driving the ball to RF with authority yet every time he finds himself in a funk he starts serving the ball the other way. The guy has a grand total of 1 opposite field HR in his career. -

Alexei Ramirez is just an incredible hitter, it's an absolute pleasure to watch him do his thing. -

That was Thome's 12th go-ahead HR on the season BTW. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 06:36 PM) Can Getz be called right back up when the rosters expand or is there a 10 day limit for him as well? I believe the 10 day rule applies. -

Ok so according to Cowley Broadway has been promoted and will start tonight's game, Getz goes back to AAA. It makes sense I suppose, this way Richard can work out of the pen and go a few innings if needed. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) I HATE YOU!!! And its not completely baseless to think Crede is better than Uribe, his numbers all over the board are better than Juan's. Even playing crappy this year Joe's OPS is over a 100 points higher than Uribe's. All I'm looking at is what Uribe has done since taking over for Crede at 3B because he's looked like a completely different player at the plate since that game in Texas (hell he has 9 walks in 100 PA). This current Uribe is a .825-.850 OPS player with dependable if not excellent defensive abilities and it's not like he would have to keep this up for an entire season, just a few more weeks.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Whoa, someone has some hate for Joe Crede. Are you ok Kal? And yes, a healthy Crede is better defensively, he isnt healthy right now like 2007, which means he probably isnt. And as much as its not good, Uribe is also better offensively than Joe right now. It's starting to get frustrating reading and hearing the same s*** over and over again. It seems the only reasoning behind this belief that some have that Crede will outproduce Uribe is a deep-seeded love for the man. There's no good dialogue going on, I'm trying to build a case off sound reasoning and all I'm met with is a s*** load wishful thinking and fanboy nonsense. I don't hate Joe Crede in fact I love Joe Crede 2006, he's pretty f***ing good and much better than Juan Uribe. I just don't think Joe Crede 2008 is going to help this team win, in fact I think he'll be a detriment. And no this isn't directed at you. Though your "errant throw" argument was totally wrong and pissed me off a little.
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Does this even garuntee he will play everyday? Crede hasn't been himself defensively all year, making bad throws, bobbling balls etc.... He was fine in April and May. But he was obviously playing hurt in June, July when he started to struggle offensivley. Are they SURE he is 100%? Because if not, they better put Uribe back there. Because a half-broke Crede is MUCH worse than an offensivley challanged/ phenomal defensive Uribe. Joe Crede is pretty useless off the bench so you have to figure he'll play close to everyday.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Yes he is. His glove has been good, even though he was errant with some throws. If he is healthy, Crede is much better at 3B than Juan. No he hasn't. I don't give a s*** if he makes a diving catch every once in a while if he's going to be f***ing up on the easy plays then he's not helping this team with his glove. What is a healthy Crede anyway? Has he even been healthy this season? I don't really get that term. Oh and Joe Crede has 11 fielding errors and 8 throwing, he should also have at least 13 fielding but he got a couple favorable calls from the official scorer just before going on the DL. So no, it hasn't just been errant throws, he's been booting a bunch of easy grounders. Joe Crede 2005/2006 >>>> Juan Uribe defensively, I'm definitely not going to argue that one. Joe Crede 2008 has been bad in the field, no where near the player he was a few years ago.
-
There really should be no adjustment period for Joe, no 0-4 games with an error and 4 awful ABs, either he's ready to play everyday or he's not. This team is a half game up in a tough divisional race and already have a capable 3B on the roster. This is a bad time to be breaking in an injured player, they can't afford a to have a grace period.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) To be fair, Crede is still superior defensively, but I agree that Uribe has brought more to the team lately than an injured Crede. Not this season.
-
It's a shame really that Juan needs to lose his job, he's been a stud at 3B for the better part of 5 weeks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) It can be 30 days, correct? 20. Meaning the deadline has already passed since he started on August 2nd. I believe all that is required to extend a rehab assignment is the player's written consent. If the rule were 30 days then his last day of rehab would have to be the 31st, which would workout perfectly.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) Obviously you are wrong about that!! Crede would make sense for this reason IMO. He was there at the beginning and contributed to the Sox success. He is the regular and not a fill in like the others would be. They can join the team in Septembr and Crede deserves the call up as he is the regular and the roster player So you want Crede to replace Uribe at 3B despite the fact that Uribe has been the better player? What are the chances that Crede would actually be an upgrade at third? They can't be very good. What has Uribe done to lose the starting 3B job? Nothing at all. Uribe was a regular at 2B to start the year and lost his starting job to Alexei because Ramirez proved to be the more valuable player, seems like history is repeating itself in this case. There's really no justification for giving Crede his starting job back right now so he'd have to come off the bench and since he possesses none of the skills you look for in a bench player it would only make sense to leave him in Charlotte for the next week and instead recall a more versatile ballplayer such as Owens or Cook.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) That was mentioned as a possibility since JO has stolen like 26 bases or so at Charlotte and is hitting better. But, I still like Crede now with JO as a Sept. call up I'll take Owens or Cook over Crede for sure (even though I hate Owens as a baseball player), at least they can give you a little something off the bench (whether it be PR or playing an OF spot) unlike Crede who would just be a waste of a roster spot right now. Let him continue his rehab for the next 6 days, he can rejoin the team when rosters expand.
-
He's 4 years away from free agency, not 3. He won't be arbitration eligible until 2010. Next year is when Carlos earns his money, if he has another huge year or half year you lock his ass up long term and buyout a few years of free agency.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) No one can top Gagne's 03 season, imo. 55 Sv's, 1.20 ERA, 37 H (IN 82.1 INNINGS), and 120K's. It doesn't get more dominant than that. Gagne is disqualified for obvious reasons. -
At this point in time is Joe Crede even capable of outproducing this latest incarnation of Juan Uribe? Coming into today Juan Uribe was sporting a line of .302/.365/.488/.853 w/ 2 HR, 9:22 BB:K since taking over at 3B for Crede. Given the vast difference between the 2 defensively and Juan's ability to run even a little and play some "smallball" on occasion I'm not sure Joe Crede can outproduce him. (and no I don't believe a setback riddled rehab stint will magically fix Joe Crede's defense)
-
Another 0'fer for Joe Crede, this time 0-4 (couple of groundouts, couple of popouts), he's now 0-12 overall.
-
.797 OPS for Swisher. SLG% is up to .440 after wallowing in the .300's for much of the season.

I'll take Joe Nathan over K-Rod any day of the week. He's VASTLY superior. K-Rod hasn't gone more than 1 inning in a single game this year and actually has 7 saves in which he threw less than an inning.
