Royals vs Sox...Part Trois - Sweep Edition
Kalapse replied to nitetrain8601's topic in 2008 Season in Review
That's the second time Konerko has f***ed up on a ball to his left in this series and the second time the official scorer gives him a gift. Ridiculous. If it's an error, give him a f***ing error. -
If a player is added to the 25 man roster at any time during the regular season it will count towards his service time. If They call up Poreda on the 1st of September and he plays through the end of the season his service number will sit at 0.031 because he will have been on the 25 man roster for 31 days. Once a player's service number reaches of 0.172 (172 days on the 25 man roster) it switches over to 1. A player can not earn anymore than 1 year of service time in a given season so if Poreda goes into next year with a service number of .031 breaks ST with the big club and stays in the majors for the entire season his number will be 1.031 going into '10. The whole 'starting the clock' business is a crock of s***, if they call him up now he can only earn like 46 days of service so if he spent any less than 126 days with the big club next year he still wouldn't have a year of service time and once he becomes a full time major leaguer that .046 number means absolutely nothing since you can only earn a year of service in a given season. Once a player hits 3 years of service they become eligible for arbitration (unless they're a super 2 player) and once they hit 6 they become eligible for free agency. In conclusion, I don't buy it. If they don't want to call up Poreda then it's because they don't think he's ready, not because they're worried about the proverbial clock.

Well this is just confusing.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:00 PM) I'd agree with you, but with the emphasis on the words 'right now'. Of course, 'right now' is awfully important. Well 'right now' Ryan Sweeney is on the DL and won't be back for at least 2 weeks, this is his 4th different injury of the season by the way. So you'd lose Swish but gain a 22 year old inexperienced lefty who's probably going to get maybe 7 or 8 starts the rest of the way and centerfield would have to be filled full time by Griffey, Anderson and Wise.

Royals Vs Sox - Part Deux - 7:11pm CSN

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Well I don't have the stats. What has Juan hit in his last 50 at bats? If Juan plays D like this and can actually produce at the plate, I guess I'd keep Juan in there and spell him with Joe. Give me Juan's BA and RBIs over his last 50 at bats. I am not of the belief Crede is suddenly a bad fielder. You better believe Oz and KW are not going to play him if he's hurting. I tend to trust Oz on this one rather than panic about Joe's return. .302/.362/.453/.815 since taking over for Crede at 3B. Whether Joe Crede is or isn't going to an awful defender for the remainder of his career is immaterial, all we've seen from him this season is an awful defender and there's really no reason to believe his back injury flaring up is going to make him any better in the field. Maybe he'll be better next year after resting his back for 4 months or maybe it'll take him another year to get back to the way he was, who knows. The point is; there's absolutely no reason to believe he's going to come back from this latest debilitating back injury and be spectacular in the field while at the same time I have a hard time believing we're going to see any sort of fall off defensively from Juan. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) Guys, I trust our manager and GM. If Crede's back is lame he won't play. I think the guy is a damn good player and I want him back IF HEALTHY. To say Uribe is the answer I think is insane. He's playing well right now. I'd rather have Joe. Lets just assume for a second that Juan Uribe will continue to produce like he has over the past month would you take him at 3B over what we saw from Crede this season? Because there's a big difference between the two. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) Yes Balta, but he's a good fielder. He'll get it back. When? 3 and a half months into the season and his defense was still god awful, the Sox are fighting for a playoff spot, they can't afford to have a huge liability in the field at 3B. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) Why? Tell me what are so bad his stats coming off a serious back surgery? I mean Uribe is no superstar. I just don't get comments like this. Mediocre offense, no speed, inconsistent health and awful defense is not going to cut it. Since Crede went down Juan has posted a line of .302/.362/.453/.815, playing spectacular clutch defense and has shown off his small ball skills. If he can keep this up for the final month and a half of the season then I'll take him over an iffy Crede. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) Healthy? I have to take him over Uribe. What's a healthy Joe Crede? Has he been healthy this season? If he's going to post a .750 OPS with awful defense then I'll take Juan. If he's going to go back to the Crede of old defensively then it's a different story. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) anybody think a healthy crede and linebrink will be back this season to give us a boost? I think the return of Crede would only hurt this team. -

So is it even possible that Konerko looks even more lost at the plate right now than he did 2-3 weeks ago? -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) unless you heard something new Crede will be starting his rehab at Charlotte and not hitting off the tee at home. Ozzie flaps his jaws too much, if he is annoyed that is. It is new information. And Crede was supposed to be rehabbing for over a week now and yet he's only played in 1 game and is not in the lineup AGAIN tonight (Fields at 3B and Huffman DHing.) Charlotte doesn't play tomorrow so when exactly will Crede once again begin rehabbing? Unless someone has actually seen Joe Crede in the dugout during a Knights game or working out before a game some time in the past few days then I'm going to have to believe that Crede did go back home and isn't working out with the Sox right now.
-
Ozzie's comment today were pretty interesting. It sounds like he's getting pretty annoyed with the Joe Crede situation, last week Joe made it sound like he was feeling better and ready to start his rehab assignment and yet he's only appeared in half a minor league game thus far. Perhaps I misinterpreted but Jesse Rogers made it sound like Joe Crede is no longer with the Knights, he has instead gone home and is hitting tosses there.
-
According to Jesse Rogers Quentin took BP today and he should be back in the lineup tomorrow.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Just don't look at his "clutch" stats from last season, they're about as good as it gets but I'm sure you already knew that.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) Rafael Furcal. But I digress. And if he just re-signs with the Dodgers? They have deeper pockets, a willingness to spend, he's currently employed by their organization, they love him, he loves them and they have no clear in-house replacement. Are the Sox going to throw $50M+ at a middle infielder with a history of injury? He could easily be off the market before the Sox even get a chance to talk to him. Aside from Furcal, I'm not seeing a whole hell of a lot of options.
