QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) It won't stop me from throwing out trade scenario after trade scenario. Oh I know and 3/4 of them will have the Sox landing Matt Kemp.
-
QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Who's the 3B for the Marlins at the moment? Is it Cantu or McPherson. Because I'm just throwing out the scenario, if anyone would be interested in a Fields for Cameron Maybin trade (and the Sox could always throw in one of their fringe starter prospects to get a deal done). It's Cantu and he's definitely producing (offensively at least, he's brutal in the field) with a line of .291/.338/.493./831 and 18 HRs.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) You know that I throw out trade scenarios just to piss you off. Hence why I hate this time of year, any idiot thinks he formulate a realistic trade scenario but it seems no one has any clue as to the value of these players.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) Weeks for McDougal and Masset? Not a chance in bloody hell. We're talking about a 25 year old former #2 overall pick who put up an .807 OPS last year, you'd figure at least one (probably two) very good prospect(s) and a VERY good bullpen arm would have to be included.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) Well by ace, I should say more likely front of the rotation starter. Dan Haren/Brandon Webb/Carlos Zambrano/Beckett/Peavy will not be available (CC is the only legit ace that will be available and the Sox will have the money to go after CC but CC will likely get 6 plus years and the Sox won't do that). The one guy that I think the Sox might target is Erik Bedard. It would be a risky deal and the M's will likely want a decent amount, however, they'll have a need at 3B (assuming they are going to deal Beltre, which means Fields could be an attractive option) and are probably not going to be competing next year. That said there is a lot of risk involved with Bedard (health) and the Sox tend to stay away from acquiring injury prone starters. I doubt KW makes any sort of push for Bedard before the July 31st deadline especially with Erik currently on the DL and unable to pitch until August. If the Mariners want to get ANY sort of value back for Erik Bedard they'll wait until the offseason after he's able to make a few starts in August and September proving he's at least capable of pitching. Bedard not being able to make a start before the deadline should kill any chance of him being dealt.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) I'd much rather have Casey Blake at 3B with Fields being traded in a package that gets the Sox an ace pitcher or a 5 tool CFer (Kemp would be included in this group). What Ace quality starters will be available (you can even push it a bit here) on teams that would be interested in a Josh Fields as the centerpiece of a trade? We all now who the Aces are which of them are you talking about here?
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) If Blake gets moved, I would have zero problem picking him up. He's a solid veteran who can handle a bat way and play decent enough D. He's clearly nothing special but I don't think there would be significant costs in getting him (he'd just have to be on another team cause the Tribe won't be dealing with the Sox). Beltre would be an actual upgrade and the Sox could afford to acquire him and extend him another year or two (which would be smart because he will put up above average 3B numbers while playing at the Cell). But the Sox can't afford to deal there top notch prospects for a 3Bman, imo as those prospects have to be kept for the major league squad or to fill key holes (ie, CF). With Blake you know your gonna get a league average OBP, average, and 20 HR power. Is he a UFA this off-season or still under contract? The 35 year old Casey Blake will be a free agent following this season. Adrian Beltre is a Boras client.

You do know you're supposed to kill the crawdads before eating them, right?

Baines statue to be unveiled at the Cell on Sunday
Kalapse replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) The Trib article on the statue talks about his "left leg kick". LOL. Could the writer have bothered to look at the statue, or any sort of film of Baines, at some point before writing the article? Or just realize that he's a left handed hitter, no film watching or time consuming statue inspections necessary, just a quick google search/query of a co-worker. It would be interesting to see, though I'm thinking it would be tough to hit with your back leg off the ground. -

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) BTW, Baines is #2 on my list of All-Time Sox players. As Knight will unveil soon. Which really says more about how few truly "great" players the Sox have had through their franchise history. -
Brian Fuentes will be a free agent by seasons end. Huston Street still has 2 years of Arb left following the 2008 season.
-
QUOTE (3E8 @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) The 2009 3B free agent pool is extremely shallow Yeah, Joe Crede will be the best 3B on the market BY FAR. Unless you're down with Casey Blake, Aaron Boone, Russell Branyan, Rich Aurilia, Morgan Ensberg, (maybe) Hank Blalock or converting Tex back to third. If Crede and Boras play their cards right (stay healthy, produce, don't sign a discounted deal with the Sox before testing the market) Joe is about to become a VERY wealthy man.

Hugo Strange would be an interesting villain for the next film. Batman going up against a bad guy who knows his secret identity would make for a different dynamic.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) The thing about Nolan. He's in it for the realism. My guess is The Penguin, The Riddler, Mad Hatter, Ventriloquist or Catwoman. They are semi-normal characters. Clay Face, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Croc, Bane, etc. are too unreal to be chosen. Except Nolan already said he's not going to use The Penguin, he doesn't like the character. Finally saw it today with the GF and go figure; I think it was pretty darn swell.

f***ing lame.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) I don't mean this in a negative way at all, but has one team ever had as many African-Americans on them as the Brewers do? Fielder, C.C., Hall, Cameron, Weeks, Durham. Tony Gwynn Jr. also played for them this year.
-
QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) i'm aware of his recent struggles. he's struggled before then stepped in and made strong spot starts, no? During his major league career he's started 2 games. There's the start he made last year at Wrigley in 40 degree weather with the wind blowing straight in where he went 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K and the spot start he made earlier this year in Minnesota where he went 4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HBP (9 baserunners in 4 inning of work.) Lets not act like he's made 5 or 6 starts, he's made 2 and 1 was good the other was mediocre.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) Quentin? Be serious. At his age, salary and with his production, he has nearly as much value as Ichiro has. And if you're the Mariners why wouldn't you ask for him or Danks? What other player in the Sox organization excites you? This is the same team that's demanding Max Scherzer from the Diamondbacks in exchange for Raul f***ing Ibanez.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) Fields would be the main cog in the deal. Ichiro is very good, but he's no Santana. Fields doesn't excite anyone. And he may not be as valuable a baseball player as Santana but he's just as/if not more popular around baseball and is probably the most popular player in the world. If you trade the most popular player in the world, a player who has helped open up a pipeline between your franchise and the far East, you better damn well get an incredibly exciting young talent in return not a whole mess of "meh".
-
It's an acronym.
-
You figure Adrian Cardenas has to be included in the deal.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) Floyd, Egbert, Shelby, Richard, Anderson, Fields. Doable? So of those players who's the super stud the Mariners get back in exchange for their franchise player? If they're going to trade away Ichiro they better get back at least one incredibly exciting talent. (think Carlos Gomez and then some)
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) There is NO acquisition in major league baseball more perfect for this team than Ichiro Suzuki. Are we talking about any player in baseball? If you are then I can think of a few players who would fit this team better than Ichiro Suzuki.
-
This is nothing new. It's just idol speculation from Ben Maller, every indication coming out of Seattle is that Ichiro is the one player who's off limits. In fact I read one article that said they'd definitely be keeping Ichiro around because the Mariners front office believes it will make them the front runners for Yu Darvish when he's finally posted (possibly this offseason), dealing away probably the most popular Japanese ballplayer ever just a few months after extending his contract would not look good. Besides, even if he was somehow made available you would have to overpay by a great margin just to acquire him. Out of all the players available at the deadline he would be by far the most expensive to acquire in terms of talent relinquished.

According the the Elias Sports Bureau yesterday Dan Uggla became the first player in major league history to record 3 errors, 3 Ks and 1 GIDP in the same game. (not just All-Star games but ANY game)
