He's shown infinitely better pop and plate discipline than mister Owens. He's playing the position of least consequence on the field and hitting 9th, Owens is playing one of the most important positions and is looking like the frontrunner for the leadoff spot in '08. Not really comparable situations in my book. And I'd say Owens' approval rating is somewhere in the 60% range right about now, there's really only a select few that have been giving him a beating.
  2. QUOTE(joejoedairy @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 01:08 AM) this year has sucked beyond belief, i agree with that. i just wish i was here 2 years ago to see what u negative fans were writing every day when we ended up winning the world series some1 enlighten me The site was overall pretty damn positive going into 2005, pretty depressing when September rolled around but picked back up again when the Rally Crede reared it's glorious head. Spending the majority of the season in 4th place and now dead last with an aging core and no minor league system tends to send people in a death spiral of understandable negativity.
  3. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) Agreed. And we've now added another lousy pitcher to the group for next year: Myers. Myers might not even see September in a White Sox uniform.
  4. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) Re. Garland, You can't judge anything right now about Garland and the others. The team is a wasted piece of s*** this season. The veterans gave up long ago. I don't know who you want in your rotation, but Garland is as good a pitcher to plug in there as anybody else you are going to come up with. Last place ... get used to it. They're gonna be there a while. If Garland has given up and has put up wretched numbers for the past month and a half because he just doesn't care enough to try anymore then he's a complete fool. With each horrid outing Jon churns out he only costs himself tens of millions of dollars more on that next big contract. Perhaps he's faltering now not because the season is lost but because in reality he's a league average starter and for the first 3+ months of the season he was pitching out of his mind and had to come back to earth sooner or later in order to finish the season with the same numbers he's had since he broke into the league (aside from that anomaly in 2005), a ~4.50 ERA, and ~1.33 WHIP.
  5. Newsgroper is a parody/satire site much like the Onion.
  6. I like the 6 tool approach. Hit for Contact Hit for Power Plate Discipline/Ability to draw a walk Defense Arm Strength/Accuracy Speed
  7. I'm so glad we signed Mike Myers he makes me long for the days of Dave Sanders and Josh Stewart. Terrible.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) Insulting effort by Owens on that fly ball. Whoever teachers our outfielders how to get into positioning should have been fired a long time ago. The only player on this team who knows how to run through a flyball is Luis Terrero.
  9. I predicted this team would win 68 games before the season started.
  10. Why did Vick paint the sheds black? Why was he arranging for secret meetings to buy dogs? Why was he trying to hide his operation?
  11. Well I'm about 99% convinced at this point in time that Darin Erstad will be brought back next year as a reserve, which of course means he'll end up starting in 80% of his games played and spend a significant portion of the season on the DL.
  12. I really don't think Fields can his Beckett.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) Isn't Hall catching, and AJ DH'ing? That's what my gamecast shows. And Pods and Thome are both hurt. Konerko is at DH and Pierz is behind the plate. DH - Pauly C - AJ 1B - Erstad 2B - Richar SS - Uribe 3B - Fields LF - Gonzalez CF - Owens RF - Dye BN - Hall BN - Pods BN - Thome
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) Oh crap, you're right. So who is on the bench that isn't hurt? ANYONE? No one that I know of. Hall who can really only play 1B/C, Podsednik who I'm not sure can even play the field and Thome who can maybe give you something at 1B if absolutely necessary. Not a lot of flexibility for Ozzie today.
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) The Sox, with Thome hurting, have literally 1 bench position player available for the entire field - Gonzalez. If things get ugly, we could see a pitcher hit, or even worse, a pitcher playing the field. And Gonzalez is actually starting in LF now.
  16. That was a perfectly placed pitch right there by Beckett.
  17. Juan has been damn good with the bases loaded for his career, it's the one situation where he does have success offensively.
  18. Beckett has s*** control today.
  19. Roger Cossack was on ESPN radio talking about the plea agreement, that was the most interesting part of the segment.
  20. Michael Vick is snitchin' and might just get some time off because of it. He could end up serving a large portion of his jail time (which could end up being only 1 year or less total) under House arrest.
  21. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 11:35 AM) Did I goof on that? I forget: is it Owens or Richar who can't hit out of the infield. BTW when I say "hit" I mean percentage. I love Josh Fields' power (what a badass!) but jury's still out on whether he will be an above-average hitter. Richar is the one who draws walks and displays the occasional pop, Owens is the one who hits weak ground balls up the middle.
  22. DH - Thames, LF - Maybin, CF - Granderson, RF - Ordonez Monroe was designated for assignment a few days ago.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) Um, no...far from it. How the hell does that Heder guy have a career??? He only knows how to play one character it seems. Napoleon Dynamite, School for Scoundrels, Benchwarmers and Blades of Glory . . . all the same character. And it's not a particularly funny or compelling character at that.
