  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) If you want a little strategy, read below, but if not pretend the post ends here: And for people that have never played this game, that paragraph has to look f***ing insane. Spoiler tag
  2. Those pictures were taken at like 5 o'clock in the morning, most all of them look like s***, the neck beard just amplifies the s***tiness for Floyd. Look at Konerko, Garland or even Cintron they look like zombies.
  3. QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) fixed Hanley Ramirez > Jose Reyes Definitely agree.
  4. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) No, he sucks as a fielder and has booted alot of easy grounders, and has ZERO arm...Gooch is a BIG TIME upgrade at 2B over Cintron I'd say they're pretty equal defensively, they have very similar defensive deficiencies.

For the past 370 days or so Javier Vazquez has been one of the better starting pitchers in the game and to counter that Jose Contreras has been one of the worst. Odd.
  6. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) that's fair but all i've seen you say is "that would be a horrible trade" or "that's a horrible idea." I wonder what your opinion of a good trade or idea is... If this is the case then you're practicing selective reading.
  7. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) why hasn't ozzie started gonzalez at SS? Because he's tall, bulky, awkward and bad.
  8. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) what's next? a HR for Owens?! i can't believe my eyes... That would involve getting the ball in the air and having it career for atleast 340 feet. It's going to be a few years before we see Jerry hit one out.
  9. Holy f***ing s*** an extra base hit for Jerry Owens, it traveled all of 200 feet through the air but a double none the less.
  10. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) and what is your brain busting idea, ace? I'll let you know when the dust settles post-July 31st, a whole lot could change in the next week. One thing is certain in my mind though, signing David Eckstein to be the starting SS would be a very bad move.
  11. That would be a very poor trade.
  12. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) there are lots of options for the OF but i would love to add castillo and eckstein. A nonsensical platoon at 2B? Eckstein is already terrible at short now with his chronic back pain he'll be 2 hopping routine throws to 1B.
  13. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 01:07 PM) who's going down to make room for Floyd? over/under on Pods back to the DL? 45.5 plate appearances. I gave him 39.5 PA last time and he failed to cover (he only made it to 39).
  14. QUOTE(joeynach @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) By my calculation the sox currently have $84.625 Mil on the books for next year tied up in 11 players. Factor in the $7.3 Mil in from the phillies and we have about $77.292 Mil commited for 2008. Project a $90 mil payroll and we really only have about $13 Mil to spend. Not nearly enough to fill the holes at OF, SS, 2B, and RP. I think its pretty obvious someone is going to be dumped. And that someone is most likely Contreras and his $10 mil. If he goes we have $23 Mil to spend and could probably afford 3-4 good players with that (Orlando Hudson, Eric Byrnes, Aaron Rowand, Scott Linebrink). Picture this the sox have $25 mil to spend for 2008 and we get: LF Eric Byrnes $9 Mil CF Aaron Rowand $9 Mil 2B Orlando Hudson $4.5 Mil RP Scott Linebrink $2.5 Mil Total = $25 MIL And feel free to backload those contracts after 08 so Byrnes and Rowand could be getting something like $10-$12 per year in 09 and 10. That would be just terrible.
  15. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) Joba Chamberlin, Ian Stewart, Jose Tabatha, Dellin Betances, Brett Gardner, Eric Duncan, etc. Their farm system is loaded, especially compared to ours. Ian Stewart is a member of the Rockies organization.
  16. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Not from what I've heard. Outside of Hughes, who do they have? Well for 1 Hughes is probably the best pitching prospect in the game (top 3 for sure) so saying "outside of Hughes, who do they have?" is like saying "outside of Santana/Peavy, who do they have", they have the/one of the best in the game that counts for quite a bit. Also SP Joba Chamberlain, OF Jose Tabata, SP Ian Kennedy, SP Dellin Betances and SP Humberto Sanchez (had TJ surgery so he's out for the year, still very talented) just to name a few. They have a ton of talent. So according to Baseball America they had the #4 (Hughes), #27 (Tabata), #57 (Sanchez), #75 (Chamberlain) and #100 (Betances) prospects in baseball coming into the season. The Yankees are probably top 5 in baseball. Also Eric Duncan who's already hit 3 HR since being called up a few days ago.
  17. So apparently Vick and Co. were using Beagles (Snoopy, Wishbone, Skip, etc) as bate for the Pitbulls. So if it wasn't bad enough that he was forcing Pitbulls to fight to death, brutally executing the dogs that didn't have that will to fight, would set up pens for the female dogs to be raped but he was even taking little beagles and sacrificing them to the Pitbulls in order to get them going. He stepped outside the realm of fighting dogs, he was killing Beagles.
  18. Why would I hate Jose Contreras? I hate the way he's pitched for the past 370 days or so but I can't find a reason to hate the guy.
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) Olsen's kind of a jag. To go along with the recent DUI and refusing arrest, he got in fights with a couple of teammates last season and even with Girardi. He's the Marlins' only answer to some of the "dawgs" playin' in Tampa. I know he fought Miggy which is pretty much career suicide (his Florida career, anyway).
  20. The Marlins could almost certainly get something of value for a talented but flawed (he's a complete asshole) pitcher like Olsen. Heath Phillips is complete garbage.
  21. If you had to choose one of Erstad or Podsednik to be retained for next season who would you choose? Whoever you pick will start and leadoff, they'll also be paid the same. ($3.25M)
  22. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) How many of the balls in play even left the infield? Alex sanchez used to be the same type of player, and look at where he's at. It's funny looking at Jerry Owens' Hit Chart he hasn't hit a ball further than ~270 feet down either line or ~310 feet to centerfield also the vast majority of his flyouts are right at people rather than in the gaps. It's still crazy to me that he has 29 hits this season and 27 of them are singles, that's insane. You'd think he'd get lucky every once in a while and have a ball slice away from an outfielder but I guess you have to hit a ball with authority in order for it to slice.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) There is absolutely nothing wrong with setting up a pitching staff for 08-09 that looks like Buehrle, Garland, Vazquez, Danks, and Haeger/Floyd/eventually Gio. If we got some decent offense out of a few spots, and a bullpen, I'd say that rotation would set us up to compete every year it was around. That's a s*** load of money to be paying for the top 3 in the rotation (probably $40M+). The question is, without trading anyone of value from the rotation where is this "decent offense" going to come from?
  24. Podsednik (no matter what age) had infinitely more pop than Owens. Get back to me when Jerry shows the ability to drive the ball into either gap and hit one out every once and a while. Until he gets a whole lot stronger it's going to be tough for him to top even a .650 OPS over an entire season's worth of ABs and I can't see him ever reaching .700. I personally want nothing to do with a player like that.
