QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) just drop it. sorry i dont spell words right online. dont act like i dont know how to spell "don't" and "you". Honestly, all it does is make you look less intelligent and immature. I'm not saying it's entirely fair but that's the way it is.

QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) Kalapse, what happened per se? Ground ball to Uribe, he throws the ball away, it bounces off the stands and roles next to the dugout. Hanley Ramirez runs through first then takes a few steps toward second before pulling up and walking back to the first base bag. Konerko noticed that Ramirez rounded off his run through first and tagged Ramirez out since he committed to 2B.

Great heads up play by Pauly right there.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) Alright...you show me the proof. C'mon, there's no way. I'll do a google search in a minute but in the mean time I can explain. First thing's first, Pods and Erstad were both going to see substantial DL time this year, that much was guaranteed, I figured we'd be seeing both on the DL by mid May (I was off a bit). There was a week left in ST and Terrero was tearing the s*** out of the ball and since Ozzie loves him I figured he'd make the team out of ST and take over for Erstad in CF when he went down. With Pods hitting the DL the most logical callup (KW/Oz logic) would be Owens who would be seeing substantial time in LF and leading off since he's a lefty, a real outfielder and very fast whereas Ozuna is an infielder and bats right handed (a platoon would be in order). You figure Jermaine with his many small injuries would be in need of some days off during the summer months and Rob Mackowiak is the only real option for RF so right there you get an outfield of Owens/Terrero/Mack. You have to remember, I f***ing hated the way this outfield was put together in the offseason, i wasn't anywhere near as optimistic as some when it came to the potential of this old, injury prone mess.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Alright, so who on this board ever thought at the beginning of the year we would see an outfield of Owens-Terrero-Mackowiak? And if you did, you are lying. He needs to be like Hunter Pence. He's getting a steady diet of breaking balls now, but he's being patient and taking what he's given. MAN, I wish we could have gotten him. Actually I predicted with a week left in spring training that we'd be seeing that exact outfield by July.

Rob Mackowiak and Carlos Lee both turn 31 today.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Garland seemed to be doing really well..................................................1-0 Fish. There is the ballgame. What was he talking about? He said Alex Rodriguez' $252M contract has ruined arbitration. Since now that Alex is making $25M a year mediocre shortstops who should be making $5M a year are making $10-$11M instead.
-
Can someone name me a mediocre shortstop who was rewarded $10-$11M in arbitration? Why does Hawk feel the need to make s*** up?
-
Garland will implode in the 4th after looking strong through 3.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) You know what I'm sick of? KW's pissing and moaning about the market and deals and his hardass stance about how this won't be discussed until after the season (question: WHAT season, Kenny?). You've got a workhorse, lefty, 28 year old pitcher on a team that's supposedly built around pitching and defense. What exactly is the mystery here? Nobody's saying that Mark should get a Zito contract but the guy has made plenty of overtures about wanting to stay and I'm just tired of KW's pompous and egomaniacal posturing. Mark just said on ESPN 1000 that waiting until the end of the season before discussing any sort of extension way a mutual decision, Buehrle had an equal hand in putting this thing off.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) The last time this board was clamouring for Contreras to get traded, he won about 15 in a row. It's not just this board Steve Stone was saying all of the same things on the radio yesterday. It appears Contreras is falling apart and Kenny Williams is definitely willing to move him.
-
Mark Buehrle will be on ESPN 1000 w/ Waddle and Silvy at 11:00. I doubt he'll say anything shocking or new but it should be a decent listen.
-
You say it's a risk KW can not take but in reality it's his best course of action, you're not going to get big time major league talent from a 1st place team looking to make a run for a championship. Either you re-sign Buehrle (which I really don't think is going to happen), you trade him for a couple highly touted prospects or you let him walk at the end of the season and enjoy your 2 draft picks. Prospects are hit and miss but when you're making deadline deals with contending teams, they're really all you're going to get in return.
-
Broadway as a major leaguer strikes me as more of a Jeremy Sowers than a Jon Garland. Atleast Garland manages to K 110+ hitters per season.
-
Richar is almost exclusively a 2B now, apparently he's brutal at SS, so he has Orlando Hudson and Alberto Callaspo ahead of him. Oh and Justin Upton is no longer a SS, he was moved to CF due to his horrid defense at the position. I think it's pretty telling that the Diamondbacks would rather stick with Alberto Callaspo who's not exactly a world beater on the field and enjoys beating his significant other off it.

Uggla's line against lefties coming into today: .283/.352/.583/.935 Cabrera's line against lefties coming into today: .411/.492/.911/1.403 I guess Matt's just lucky that Miggy didn't put one on the Fundamentals deck on the first pitch he saw.

Matt Thornton pitched a quick 1-2-3 8th which should have been his only inning of work for the night. And in Boone's last outing before Sunday, you know the one 5 days before the final game of the Pirates series? Boone struck out the side against the likes of Shane Victorino (one of the better slap hitters in the game), Chase Utley (one of the best hitters in the game) and Ryan Howard (quite possibly the best power hitter in baseball. Boone Logan has been a ridiculously effective LOOGY this season. He's faced 35 lefty hitters this year, 8 reached base, 3 singles, 2 doubles and 3 walks. That's outstanding.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:15 PM) I still predict next Monday will be the day we see things start to happen. Next Sunday after the Cubs game atleast 1 vet will be headed for a new city.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:12 PM) ESPN would hire him in a heartbeat, even if nobody could understand him. It would be interesting watching Ozzie and Dusty breaking s*** down on BBTN. Ozzie would finally be able to let loose whenever he wants, it would be some great tv.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Ozzie looks weird without facial hair. Maybe I've seen him for over 20 years with it, but wow. Of course, I used to get freaked out when my grandpa took his glasses offf. Ozzie does appear to be packing on pounds. You're right about the facial hair, he just doesn't look quite right without that s***ty goatee. He's put on a lot of weight and the bags under his eyes are about the size of garlic cloves right now. He should really just walk away with a few million dollars under his belt and a World Series Ring. I doubt he'd have much trouble finding work that's a little less stressful.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) This game was the epitome of the 2007 White Sox. Score some runs early don't score for the last 7 innings against relievers. Sure Danks could have been better, he's really struggled lately, but he did leave with the lead. Have the bullpen blow it, and lose again. In all fairness, he left with the lead in after the 4th inning. That doesn't really count.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) Well, Ozzie pretty much just put everything on the players in that press conference -- something he has never done in his time here. I don't know what to think... The end of his press conference was very interesting. He backed himself, KW and JR while throwing his players under the bus. The losing is starting to get to Ozzie. I'm watching him on Comcast right now, he looks like s***. I really think Ozzie might just end up quiting.
-
"This is a joke." He immediately goes after Iguchi for not getting the bunt down. Going after Danks now for his inability to throw strikes. "the only reason this kid made the ballclub is because of his ability to throw strikes." Going after the hitters for falling asleep for the final 7 innings of the game. "It's a joke!" "I'm tired of watching this day in and day out" "we have 35,000 fans in the stands that believe but the players don't believe in theirself (his words)." "The talent is there, we're just wasting our talent." "I'm tired of being positive" "I've tired of being the root root guy, lets go lets go" *catches himself* "I don't want to say that I'll be beeped" "This is the same team we had in 2005, blame the players" You really have to hear it for yourself. Protecting himself, JR and KW, putting the blame squarely on the players, interesting.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) has anybody heard what ozzie said? They're going to play it on 670 immediately following this current commercial break.

Dear god is 670's postgame show f***ing worthless.
