Poll: Most Important Offseason Acquisition
Kalapse replied to RME JICO's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) Who said they have to be acquired via free agency? Why not via trade? Who exactly are you trading for this relief help? And who out there would they be targeting on the trade market? -
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) I didn't hate the ending, but definitely thought it was strange. Especially with Meadow having trouble parking and then running across the street to the restaurant and then all of a sudden, blank screen... Not sure what was behind that deal with Meadow. It was meant to make you uneasy, you don't feel that Tony, Carmella and AJ are safe inside the restaurant because of all the shady characters in the place as Meadow struggles to park the car scenarios keep running through your head. You watch the show for so long you become attached to the characters, you're afraid for their well being, you don't want to see anything bad happen to them. You look at the clock and you see it's already 9:00 this is probably the final scene. What the hell is going to happen? A big shootout in the restaurant with Tony and the other 2 being killed and Meadow getting hit by a speeding car while trying to parallel park? It was amazingly well done.

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) I'm not sure. I'm not a big fan at all. He's 27 (not exactly a young prospect) and hasn't done well in most of his major league career. I'd rather just resign Iguchi to play 2B. He's 25 and has been a league average offensive player for the past 2 seasons. If he can play 3B then he can play 2B, it's pretty much the easiest defensive position on the field, even if he's average defensively it'll be a seamless transition from Iguchi. He has big time power potential and is starting to develop some plate discipline.
-
So I'm the only one that thought it was outstanding? Tony is about to be indicted and probably go to prison but everything is just peachy to him because he's on top, he won. His family is safe from danger, healthy and well on their way to big things and even more importantly legitimate big things. He makes it through the biggest war yet with his family fully intact and proporous. The tension created in the final scene was epic, amazing work.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) All of this makes too much sense. Then you've got a rotation of Buehrle, Garland, Danks, Billingsley, and maybe Gio. Jenks will still be in the bullpen, along with Thornton and Logan. Maybe we get some relievers for Count? Buehrle, Garland, Vazquez, Danks, Billingsley, I'd rather not have 3 sub-24 year old starters in the rotation next year plus Vazquez' often average, sometimes studly 200+ IP are quite valuable. I have Aardsma/MacDougal (possibly both, who knows), Logan, Thornton and Jenks in the pen, that leaves 2 spots to be filled either internally, through FA or through trade, shouldn't be too hard with $8M to work with. The bench is Ozuna, An. Gonzalez, Patterson, Hall with a spot left open for a power bat. That's ~$92M with 3 inexpensive holes to be filled. All this is easily affordable with a $95M-$100M payroll next season.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) SweeneyTerrero, Milledge, and Ichiro wouldn't bother me one bit. Fields, Uribe, Betemit, and Konerko in the IF? DH Thome, Jim C Pierzynski, AJ 1B Konerko, Paul 2B Betemit, Wilson 3B Fields, Josh SS Uribe, Juan LF Sweeney, Ryan CF Terrero, Luis RF Suzuki, Ichiro That right there is a $45M and probably the best defensive outfield in baseball. Good power throughout, younger and faster for a very low price tag. With the money being saved in the field suddenly Buehlre can be re-signed for ~$15M a year while Contreras is dealt for a piece or two. Mackowiak is non tendered along with Cintron and a guy like Corey Patterson is signed to be the 4th OF/speed of the bench unless of course a trade is made for a similar player. And after all that about $5-8M remains to be spent on the bullpen/bench or to fill any other need.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) It sounds fantastic and it also sounds relatively realistic. Count me in. I also think the squad needs to find a way to acquire two good young outfielders (maybe one being a highly touted prospect such as Milledge with the other being a younger major league proven outfielder). I'd be happy with Ichiro being one of those outfielders even if he will be 34 next season.

Billingsley and Betemit for Dye and ______ would be fantastic. Betemit spends the rest of the year bouncing around the infield then takes over for Iguchi in '08 along with Billingsley taking a rotation spot. Having a power bat like Betemit at 2B would allow for another slap/light hitter at another position like LF/CF. Also adding 2 more PRE-ARB players like Betemit and Billingsley while removing the large contracts of say Contreras, Iguchi and Dye would allow for great financial flexibility this offseason. What a dream trade that would be.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) I thought I read somewhere that the actor that plays Paulie has a clause in his contract that hes never to be flipped on the show. I think I read it on wikipedia. Anybody else hear anything about that? I think that was a "rat" clause as in FBI Informant not flipping families. If he flipped NJ for NY that would make him a traitor to NJ but that's nowhere near the same thing as being a rat.
-
Could you imagine how huge it would be for this team if Luis Terrero were actually good at baseball? He's an incredibly talented all around baseball player, his defensive ability and power could be huge for this team if he could display it consistently. His .270/.372/.595/.967 line thus far this season is quite promising, being able to plug him into RF/CF next season would make KW's job so much easier and allow him greater flexibility so he can go after a high priced player like Ichiro to fill the leadoff spot.

'Bout f***ing time, this losing s*** gets real old real quick.
-
After rewatching the 4th and 5th seasons this past week I am now convinced Pauly flipped. He may have been pissed at Johnny Sack for blow smoke up his ass but that was a different regime. I could see Phil using a Pauly to get to Tony and the NJ crew, it just makes too much sense.

Who are some options for us at SS in 2008
Kalapse replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Juan Uribe will be the starting SS next year, this I'm sure of. Considering what will be available at the position this offseason I'm content with have Juan back at short. -
Who are some options for us at SS in 2008
Kalapse replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
David Eckstein would be a disaster at SS for the White Sox, I want no part of that. His arm is probably the weakest of any infielder in baseball, anything hit in the hole is a hit. Where exactly are you getting your power from with that lineup? Castillo - Slap hitter, no power Eckstein - Slap hitter, no power Fields - Rookie who can't even hit a fastball let alone hit for consistent power Erstad - NO power, walking injury, $3.25M worth of s*** Owens - Juan Pierre power Sweeney - Less reliable power than Fields Ichiro - Slap hitter, minimal power Pierzynski - contact hitter, 10 HR power I know everyone hates power and all but you do need someone who can drive the ball. Good luck hitting even 120 homeruns with this lineup. Oh and good luck giving Ichir(o) $17.5M (he's not going to get that much) a year and while re-signing Buehrle at the same time. Ain't happening. Tony Gwynn > Ichiro -
Poll: Most Important Offseason Acquisition

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 03:25 PM) Everyone that voted for CF, LF and RF apparently hasn't been watching the Whitesox this year. Pitching wins baseball games, not CFs, LFs or RFs. Right now our starting pitching looks solid. I'm sure KW will make some move to bring us some more pitching. Our bullpen sucks. 10 Losses 11 blown saves 153 IP 175 hits 88 BB 5.82 ERA LF, CF, RF??? You should be ashamed of yourselves. Who do you target in free agency to sure up the pen then? Relief pitching is such an insane crapshoot, shelling out big money to some of the most inconsistent players in all of sports just seems silly. -
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) s*** no! No to relievers! If we trade Dye thats a white flag to the season. We might as well get some quality spects and NOT MRs. What is the point of MRs if we trade one of our top bats? Broxton is a future closer and Billingsley is a future starter, they are NOT middle relievers. You trade Dye for your, talented players because he's a pending free agent and will not be with the team beyond this season. If you can get players of the Billingsley/Broxton caliber for a guy who won't be with the team 3.5 months from now, you do it.

What would happen if we still had Freddy Garcia?
Kalapse replied to whitesox94's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) LOL, i like how you quoted Heads22's response with the Supervolcano, and then gave a serious response. What difference would it make if Freddy was on the team. He isnt bullpen help, the starters arent the problem. In truth, his ERA would probably be a little higher than Danks or roughly the same. His ERA would be twice as high as Danks. -
Players only Team meeting after the game

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 01:00 AM) Sox pitching performed well enough to win Saturday. The offense let them down--again. The Sox offense hasn't performed all season. The starting pitching has been solid and the bullpen performed well earlier in the year. Even in recent games that the bullpen blew leads, the Sox offense didn't show up. The responsibility for this team's dismal record falls squarely on the shoulders of Dye, Konerko and Thome. They are paid big money and are counted on to carry the offense. Collectively, they have sucked all season so far. Why should I or anyone else for that matter take anything you post seriously anymore? -
Players only Team meeting after the game
Kalapse replied to southsideirish71's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I shouldn't even have to read Thome's name in a Sox loser thread or in any other threads for that matter unless of course that thread's title is "Players who are actually performing up to standards this season." The guy is having an outstanding season, kicking several forms of ass. Instead of Thome, Konerko and Dye need to step it up how about Konerko, Dye and Pierzynski or any of the other chumps currently showing up strictly for the paycheck need to get their collective heads out of their collective asses. -
I'll give you credit for coming up with a somewhat reasonable trade idea that doesn't involve the Devil Rays or Angels. I'm so sick of seeing the names Crawford, Baldelli, Santana and Aybar.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Other then Cameron playing in 59 of SD's 60 games? Cruz can still throw, I know that, and looking at his stats, he has 3 steals and 2 triples as well so far. Cruz had 9 triples and 25 SB's just last year, did he really lose that much speed in a year? Anyways, it was just a hypothetical trade to get other Sox fan's opinions. I know Mark's value is very high, I wanted to see what you guys think Jermaine's value is at this point. Exactly my point, Cameron has started nearly every game in CF for the Padres this year despite being pretty brutal at the plate. His D is just that damn good. Actually it was Cameron who had the 9 triples and 25 SB's last season, Cruz had 5 SB and 3 triples over the past 2 seasons combined. Thanks for proving my point for me though.

Khalil Green has got to be the most bipolar hitter in baseball outside of all those Texas hitters of course, he's pure s*** at Petco with a .224/.287/.355/.642 career line but is one of the better hitting SS in all baseball when away from San Diego .276/.337/.508/.845. That's 162 TB at home compared to 306 away, nearly twice as many away from San Diego. That's crazy. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) Has Cruz really lost that much? I haven't watched him in a few years, but he used to be a very solid defender with a lot of range. The Padres are also interested in Adam Dunn, would be interesting to have a retarded contest to see who has less range in LF, Dye or Dunn. Cruz JR is just slow as s*** at this point in his career, there's a reason why he never plays CF anymore.
-
No one f***ing cares.

Kevin Towers isn't just going to trade away his best bullpen arm and dominant defensive centerfielder. The Padres are in first place and are going to need the both of them for the rest of the season, they have the best bullpen in baseball and trading their best reliever right now would be silly, Towers has said as much. Towers targeted Mike Cameron a few years ago to cover all that ground in Petco's huge centerfield, Towers loves him and won't let him leave unless he has an excellent defensive, powerful centerfielder to replace him with. I ask you, why in the hell would Towers make this deal? Where is he even going to put Dye? And how does a deal like this make them any better this season?

This thread is almost as bad as your grammar.
