  1. QUOTE(soxsr08 @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) Jessica Alba See now this is just getting ridiculous.
  2. When Cox comes back, JD meets him when he first walks in. JD was supposed to be giving Ben all kinds of tests while Cox is bailing the clown out of jail after he got his DUI. Anyway JD meets him at the door and says '20 minutes after you left he went into cardiac arrest.' We are lead to believe that JD is talking about the old man from the beginning of the episode and Cox responds as such. I do believe it was Ben who went into cardiac arrest and that is when he dies. Probably the best episode they've aired yet. It shows just how great of an actor John C. McGinley is and makes you wonder why he doesn't get more major roles in movies.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 11:46 PM) I'm not sure what numbers you're looking at, but he had a 5.59 ERA in 19 starts, so I don't think he ever really looked good as a starter... 04/08/04 - 05/30/04 (April-May): 10 GS, 5-2, 3.64 ERA, 1.31 WHIP 06/01/04 - 10/02/04 (June-Sept): 9 GS, 1-7, 8.19 ERA, 1.86 WHIP
  4. QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) he slides into first, called safe, gets up, and without thinking, undoes his belt and pulls his pants down to get the dirt out. Steve Lyons not Steve Sax.
  5. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) I gotta think the next featured poster will be Kalapse. Did you read through the entire original thread? I had some god damn gems in there, I can't think of a damn reason why I wasn't featured in SI. Bastards.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) Barry Bonds is definately cheating. He's on somethin'. Maybe a few things. I heard he does toad.
  7. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) i guess i like the move, if he can harness his stuff, but like people have mentioned we have 0 catching depth. However, Gustavo Molina is a defensive stud, as well. And Gustavo is also an incredibly dreadful hitter at this point in his career, as a 24 year old at B-Ham last season he was beyond brutal. I like having an outstanding defensive catcher in the fray but he has to be able to hit a little bit. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) I would imagine Widge, Alomar, Pratt and Greene would retire before they went back to the minors. But I could be wrong. Well, Todd Greene did play at AAA in '05 for the Rockies so he could be a possibility.
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) I suppose Stewart became more expendable with Toby on the roster, but Lujan seems like a total project, and Stewart would have been nice to have around if AJ or Toby went down for some insurance. It's clear Lujan has far more upside, but the C spot seems like an odd area for the Sox to deal away. It does seem like he dealt Stewart just to deal him, I'm not really sure what he's going to do now that we don't have anything left in the organization at catcher. I understand the idea of loading up on power arms but trading the #3 catcher in the org, a guy who is projected to atleast be a serviceable backup in the future for a 22 year old reliever at high A ball? Seems a bit counter productive to me.
  9. Chris Widger, Sandy Alomar Jr., Todd Pratt, Mike DiFelice, Todd Greene, Miguel Perez (Reds non-tender), Jose A. Reyes (Cubs non-tender). Will any of these guys be playing at Charlotte next year?
  10. John Lujan: R/R, 6-1, 200, Born: May 10, 1984 A 22 year old at high A ball last year, it's another one of those big arm guys who throw in the upper 90's with NO control. QUOTE(rangersfarmreport.mlblogs.com @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) 3) Johnny Lujan: “The Epiphany” Coming out of New Mexico Junior College in 2004, Lujan was among the national JUCO leaders with a sub-1.00 ERA before his final outing and finished 11-2, 1.61 with 103 strikeouts in 78 innings. There was a consistent theme in all of the reports on Lujan coming out of NMJC as the Rangers picked him in the 15th round: talented, but very unrefined. The MLB scouting report on Lujan called him “very raw; just a thrower now.” Baseball America noted that he had “so-so command.” The Core Numbers: 4-4 with a 2.80 ERA for Low-A Clinton; fanning 56 and walking 27 in 64.;1 innings. The Misunderstanding: Big deal. A nice season, but nothing special there. The Story Behind the Core Numbers: Lujan’s 2005 season at Low-A Clinton was good but far from dominant...until August rolled around. The Waco native went on a dominant run down the stretch, posting a 0.44 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 20 innings while holding the Midwest League to a .143 average during the final full month of the season. Over the winter, Lujan virtually erased any notion that his huge August was just a fluke. He went off to the Puerto Rico Winter League where he exploded, tossing 20 scoreless innings while holding the league to a miserable .131 average. That’s right: 20 innings, no runs. None. And his fastball sat at 97 mph. When guys like Lujan–with big raw arms but not much of an idea of what to do with them–start to figure it all out, they can explode. We saw it two years ago with Frankie Francisco who, in spite of a 98 mph fastball and wicked exploding slider, posted a 6.34 ERA in 72.1 Double-A innings before suddenly figuring it all out and putting together a 3.33 ERA in 55 big league innings, playing a key roll in the Rangers surprising 2004 campaign. There’s never really been any doubt about Lujan’s essential talent. The question about Lujan was, and is, whether he can harness his excellent stuff and learn to control the strike zone. As Lujan continues to refine his approach and improve his control, his extraordinary stuff and deceptive delivery should allow him to go all the way and perhaps, just perhaps, become a significant member of the Texas Rangers staff. The Lesson: When the moment of clarity comes to an extremely talented but raw prospect, his ascent can be breathtaking and it appears that the breakthrough has happened for the Waco Kid. John Lombardo, the Rangers director of minor league operations credits Lujan for “[working] very hard, refining his craft under the guidance of Rick Adair and the rest of our development staff and we are certainly starting to see the fruits of this labor. This should only continue through 2006. A lot of credit needs to go to our Scouting staff for recognizing this raw ability and what could be made of it." QUOTE(To LA from Chicago @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) I thought the Sox were high enough on Stewart as a possible A.J. of the future that they'd keep him. I didn't see that one coming. Blindsided by K-Dub again! He's a damn good defensive catcher but his offense is pretty putrid, this is still a major surprise. There's absolutely no depth in the system at catcher behind Hall now. I suppose Gustavo Molina moves up to the #3 catcher spot now.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) 2. In the back of everyone's mind, the same thing that made JD so cheap for the White Sox will still be a thought; JD's injury history. Yes, he's been healthy the last 2 years, but he should know very well how much money even a minor injury this season could cost him. One stint on the 15 day DL could cost him $5-10 million if he doesn't sign a contract extension before the season. Hence why I think he'll accept the $37M extension. There Could also be a $3M signing bonus to bump it up to a 3 year $40M contract.
  12. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) Yep, I love him too. I've been listening to him for over 10 years now. If I was just a little bit dumber, I'd be a Murph basher. I couldn't care less about the fact that he's a Cubs fan, though. I think that you're a meathead if you do, but that's just my opinion. How can you take Mike Murphy seriously after he said on his show that Ron Artest is a poor defensive player? 'That Ron Artest, I know he had a good night offensively but he doesn't wanna guard ANYONE!' - Mike Murphy
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 03:26 AM) Boers and Bernstein on anything but the radio could be a disaster, based on the appearance those 2 have. Faces made for radio. This is true, I don't really get the whole webcam thing but when they do start streaming video I'm sure I'll check it out. I love the downloads they have on their site now where you can listen to any 'Who Ya Crappin' or "Friday Fung' segments over the past month they need to start putting entire shows on the site so I can avoid being bored out of my mind at work during night shifts. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 03:21 AM) Dude. I expected something biting and witty. You disappoint me. Eh I could have but my wit seems to come and go from time to time and I'm not feeling incredibly witty right about now.
  14. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 03:03 AM) How do you watch the radio? Well supposedly they'll be doing the show via webcam sometime in the near future so perhaps I got a bit ahead of myself. I apologize.
  15. Since I'm on a bit of a roll with this sort of thing (Pierre, Soriano, etc) I'm going to take a stab at JD's next contract which I believe will come from the Sox. 3 years, $37M guaranteed. $11M per with a 4th year team option worth $12M or a $4M buyout. I know it seems low but just wait until the press conference, I'll be right in the end.
  16. Dye has nothing to do with Buehrle getting 6+ years and $100M+ next offseason. THAT is why Buehrle will not be back, he's simply not worth the money. Dye is going to get some money, a good amount in fact but no where near what Buehrle will earn on the market. And after reading your topic title again, I'm pretty sure I misinterpreted what you were trying to say.
  17. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) Do u really think the Sox are loading up with all these power arms so Ozzie can ride his starters again ? I'm not saying I disagree with you but I think you'll see Ozzie dipping into the bullpen a bit more than he did the last few years unless the starters kick ass and the bullpen sucks. That's what he was supposed to do last year. Some managers just live and die by their starters and hardly go to the pen, it's just the way they manage I believe Ozzie is one of these managers.
  18. QUOTE(kevin57 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) I'll acknowledge that Berstein is one of the most knowledgeable voices on radio in this town, but I find their routine to be sophomoric and condescending. That's a really bad combination of negatives. That's one of the main reasons why I listen to them.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) I thought he was a scout for a baseball team now, i want to say the yankees but i can be 100% wrong on all of that. You are correct.
  20. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) I agree wholeheartedly. How in the hell can you not think Jessica Biel is hot?? Just watch Summer Catch...... my God, she was SMOKIN! Now for my ignorance, what was TCM? She has an amazing ass, she looked outsanding in the Rules of Attraction. TCM = Texas Chainsaw Massacre
  21. Buehrle wasn't just bad in the second half last year, he was epically terrible. His first 16 starts were pretty damn good, some of the best starts of his career. His final 16 starts however were basically the worst i baseball. He split it right down the middle too, once he hit his 17th start he went to s***. First 16 starts (April - June) GS IP W L H R ER HR SO BB ERA WHIP | RA (R/IPx9) 16 111.2 9 4 112 48 40 12 47 28 3.22 1.25 | 3.87 Final 16 starts (July - September) GS IP W L H R ER HR SO BB ERA WHIP | RA (R/IPx9) 16 92.1 3 9 135 76 73 24 51 20 7.12 1.72 | 7.41 Now what the hell happened there? Something had to have been wrong for him to be THAT bad but as Tony mentioned there has not been a reason given for his suckitude which is incredibly disturbing. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 12:44 AM) Mark did admit that he was out of shape most of last season. And, if you believe Kenny, the '05 playoffs took a big toll on not only him, but all of our starters. We shall see. Mark also said that he was not tired, according to him he had no ill-effects from the '05 playoffs.
  22. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 12:15 AM) Well if you do it that way A LOT of guys kick the s*** out of Mark. I don't think 3 months, although they were horrible, overrides 5 1/2 years. Actually it kind of does when talking about his prospects for the 2007 season, he picked the wrong ass time to suck for 3 months because he has A LOT to prove now.
  23. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 10:49 PM) C.C. Sabathia > Beuhrle Jake Westbrook Cliff Lee Paul Byrd Jeremy Sowers > ? Sox win Ok, Sabathia kicks the s*** out of Buehlre, Westbrook and Contreras is basically a wash except when you take into account age and past injuries then it goes to Westrbook. Lee and Garland is also a wash with a slight edge to Garland, Vazquez is better than Byrd and Sowers is going to be much better than anyone the Sox throw out there next year. Take a look at what Jeremy did last season especially in the second half of the season he's pretty damn good. The Sox will be lucky to get a 5.50 ERA out of the 5th spot next year. To Summarize: Sabathia >> Buehrle Westbrook ~ Contreras (edge Westbrook) Lee ~ Garland (edge Garland) Byrd Sowers >>> Floyd/Haeger/?? Edge Indians
