Who do you want as the new manager?
QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) It's because Alomar isn't standing next to The Most Brilliant man in all of baseball scribbling on a piece of paper in a mimicking fashion. So yes...that automatically makes Martinez the Second Most Brilliant man in all of baseball. Ya know...a lot of athletes are reserved and quit...and yet garner a ton of respect. Find somebody in that Cleveland dugout that doesn't listen when Alomar talks...guarantee you none. Seriously, why must every f***ing discussion devolve into needless hyperbole? This is why it's so god damn hard to get good dialogue going here, it's f***ing ridiculous.

Who do you want as the new manager?
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) What I don't get is everyone clamoring for Martinez yet yawning at the thought of Alomar. Neither of them have any type of significant managerial experience to base our opinion of how they'll be as a MLB manager. People are upset that Alomar might be reserved and quiet? Screw that, I'll take reserved and quiet if it means making smart decisions. There's a huge difference in experience, neither has been a manager obviously but one of them was a bench coach for 4 years on a team that won 2 division titles, a Wild Card and a Pennant. The other has 2 years experience as a first base coach in the city of Cleveland and 2 years as a catching instructor with the Mets before that. I have nothing against Sandy, I don't think he'd be reserved at all, he could be a fine manager and if he gets the job I won't be upset but the prospects of Dave Martinez just excite me significantly more. It mostely has to do with my love of Joe Maddon, that guy is all kinds of special.

Wild Card Wednesday!
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) WPA graphs Red Sox had a 95.3% chance of winning in the 9th. The Rays literally had no chance of winning in the 8th. Amazing stuff. That's simply incredible. It couldn't have played out any worse for the Red Sox.

Scott Merkin The last time a Florida team rallied from this far back to reach the playoffs, one of their coaches ended up managing the White Sox ~ 27 minutes ago via web You gotta wait it out, KW.

Wild Card Wednesday!
It's amazing, was it an inning earlier that it looked like the Red Sox might just make it out alive? The Yankees had first and third with no outs and Aceves just got out of that jam to hand the game over to Papelbon. Then BANG it's over.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:19 PM) That homer reminded me of when McGwire broke Maris' record. I thought the exact same thing.

Wild Card Wednesday!
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) To say the least. I find myself oddly infatuated by every shot of Martinez standing next to Maddon. His name was said like 13 times between innings 8 and 10.

Wild Card Wednesday!
What an incredible night of baseball. Nights like tonight are why I really want Dave Martinez as the next manager, it seems a Joe Maddon led team just plays so f***ing hard and I'm hoping that after 4 years some of that magic has rubbed off on him. Some of the shots to the Rays dugout tonight have been interesting, a lot of discussion between Maddon and Martinez.

Jeff Cox Spills the Beans??
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) I don't see anywhere that says he's taken his name out from consideration. Good point. I'm all excitable, it's been a while since I really gave a s*** about the Sox. Accept a promotion within your current organization then go interview for managerial positions, if you don't get job then you still have that nice promotion to fall back on.

Jeff Cox Spills the Beans??
Well, it's not Sandy as he's staying on as Acta's bench coach. Now what? Martinez and who?

Cooper and Baines get extensions
QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) What would Martinez bring that Alomar wouldn't? Alomar garners some pretty good respect in the Indians dugout and org from what I can tell. Seems like some of you think he's just gonna come in here and be Kenny's Lackey. Experience. 4 years on the bench working closely with a great manager. That compared to Sandy's 2 years as a catching instructor and 2 years as a 1st base coach. I won't be upset should Alomar get the job, Dave Martinez just excites me more.

Cooper and Baines get extensions
Both Dave Martinez (96/97) and Sandy Alomar Jr. (01) were teammates of Harold Baines' in a White Sox uniform.

9/27 Blue Jays at White Sox
Orioles have a runner on with no outs against Papelbon in the bottom of the 9th, meanwhile a single out to go in Buehrle's final start. This is a tough one.

AJ was just saving up energy all season long for that throw right there. Better late than never, I suppose.

9/27 Blue Jays at White Sox
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) Sure, as some part of our organization one day, but that whole display doesn't appear to be anything less than a goodbye gesture. Cooper knows better than anyone, and I'd say he knows Buehrle is gawn. They did the exact same thing with Konerko last year, we nearly lost him but he's still around.

Props to Coop for the way he handled that, just awesome.

That was cool. I'm gonna miss Buehrle.
