  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) I asked for carlton Fisk and anyone who joined me was closer in reality than any of you other jokers - er I mean Soxtalk posters. It's the organizational thing. I look forward to success in 2012. Big difference in attitude between Fisk and Ventura. But yeah, I guess it could have been him, I'm done pretending to know what this organization is thinking.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Really, every writer has Martinez as the #1 candidate on the Sox list? I'm actually surprised by this, I feel like there have been a whole lot of people who have written Alomar was the #1 on the Sox list. Pretty much. Alomar's name has started to fade a bit with Martinez gaining a lot of steam over the past week. Alomar definitely felt like the favorite a week ago, not so much anymore. I do feel as though Alomar is going to win the interview process, it just seems that's where he'd really shine.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) So Martinez is officially this season's backup quarterback guy. The guy every fan has to have, for no real reason except Sox fans like the fact he's a Sabes guy. The Rays, who play in the biggest, baddest division in baseball, just got blown away by the Rangers. I have nothing against the guy, but anybody who thinks he is a savior, just tell me why. In my mind, he's no different from Alomar. If Martinez truly is going to receive a lot of offers, I bet the only way the Sox get him is with a 4 year contract. Sox are a team going downhill unless KW reworks the roster fast. No way in hell he'd choose Chicago over Boston if all these teams truly want him. Every writer who comments on the subject has Martinez as the #1 candidate on the Sox's short list of potential managers, you act as though the Martinez excitement/interest has been manufactured by the fans.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Red Sox, White Sox, Cubs. Who else is actively searching for a manager? And the Cubs of course still haven't actually fired their guy since they don't have a GM yet. And the Red Sox still have to figure out the Theo Epstein situation, something's going to happen there whether it be a promotion or exodus.
  5. A Yankees loss tonight frees up Tony Pena for his interview, this could move quickly with all candidates potentially being available tomorrow.
  6. QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 12:13 AM) At 22 the power may still come though, no? He's like 5'9".

    2011 TV Thread

Bateman confirmed it on his twitter feed, he says they'll likely shoot the 10 episodes and movie next summer with all being released some time in 2013.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) Chuck Garfien Hearing of a surprise candidate on Kenny Williams short list for White Sox manager. (@thekapman also reporting this) Chuck Garfien Don't know who the surprise candidate is. @thekapman guesses Tony Pena. Here's mine: Carlton Fisk. 2 hours ago Kinda hard for Pena to be a surprise candidate when Rosenthal already reported the Sox's interest in him and Fisk would be a disaster; the last thing this team needs is a grump old man with ZERO experience running the show.
  10. http://mlbbuzz.yardbarker.com/blog/mlbbuzz...8?new_post=true It's nice to see Martinez at the top of the list. As for Pena: bleh. I know Buddy Bell replaced Tony Pena as the Royals manager but I'm not aware of any other connection, thinking that Pena could be his suggestion. Martinez, Alomar, Pena, LaRussa (big time longshot). Seems like this is what we're looking at.
  11. Well this is bad: Joel Sherman I am shocked, but in last 36 hrs every exec talk to says believe #Redsox will give permssion and Theo will go to #Cubs to be GM 36 minutes ago Maybe then he can bring in Dave Martinez and I can quit baseball.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) It seems like such a no brainer. If Sox sign Francona and keep the veterans we think they are going to keep to go with some of our young favorites, the team remains relevant. Perhaps Tito has some opinions on which of the guys to dump on other teams. If we sign Alomar, no offense to Sandy, but it's a sign we are going very very cheap and don't care about returning to the WS. I don't even think Francona will be available, it really looks like he's going to take a year off. Seems like this past season has taken a good 10 years off his life.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) Really, this is not a bad set of choices an I could be content with any of them. Agreed. We've gotten lucky because this is going very well so far.
  14. QUOTE (Baines3 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) I wonder if KW will promote from within the current coaching staff for the new manager. Sure seems like there's only 4 total options: Alomar Jr., Martinez, Francona, LaRussa. That's it. More from Knobler: http://danny-knobler.blogs.cbssports.com/m...590096/32396533
  15. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) This has to be the most coveted gm job in basbeall that is open. Eh, not so fast. http://scott-miller.blogs.cbssports.com/mc...270335/32393820
  16. DKnobler I hear pitching coach Don Cooper, who got contract extension with White Sox, pushing for Francona as mgr 31 seconds ago via Seesmic
  17. 7 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 K from Matt Moore, unbelievable.
  18. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) Jesus...take an f***ing chill pill!!!! Like there's not enough ad nauseum on every little topic. I just don't buy the fact that just because Martinez has been bench coach for X years and Alomar has only been X...makes Martinez better or more qualified. Alomar has been around the game long enough...and around plenty of coaches to know what he'd like to see/do as a manager and in my opinion well qualified. Have at it.... If it didn't happen every single time I get involved in a discussion on here it wouldn't piss me off but it's constant and it serves no one, just kills good dialogue. How does being signifcanlty more experienced not make Dave Martinez better qualified? That's pretty huge. There's a ton of responsibility that comes along with being a manager, Dave Martinez has basically lived it for the past 4 years while Sandy has merely viewed it, I imagine there's going to be a lot more growing pains with Alomar.
  19. It's official: Matt Moore vs CJ Wilson in game 1. A ballsy move by Joe Maddon but the viewers thank you, this is going to be good.
  20. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) It's because Alomar isn't standing next to The Most Brilliant man in all of baseball scribbling on a piece of paper in a mimicking fashion. So yes...that automatically makes Martinez the Second Most Brilliant man in all of baseball. Ya know...a lot of athletes are reserved and quit...and yet garner a ton of respect. Find somebody in that Cleveland dugout that doesn't listen when Alomar talks...guarantee you none. Seriously, why must every f***ing discussion devolve into needless hyperbole? This is why it's so god damn hard to get good dialogue going here, it's f***ing ridiculous.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) What I don't get is everyone clamoring for Martinez yet yawning at the thought of Alomar. Neither of them have any type of significant managerial experience to base our opinion of how they'll be as a MLB manager. People are upset that Alomar might be reserved and quiet? Screw that, I'll take reserved and quiet if it means making smart decisions. There's a huge difference in experience, neither has been a manager obviously but one of them was a bench coach for 4 years on a team that won 2 division titles, a Wild Card and a Pennant. The other has 2 years experience as a first base coach in the city of Cleveland and 2 years as a catching instructor with the Mets before that. I have nothing against Sandy, I don't think he'd be reserved at all, he could be a fine manager and if he gets the job I won't be upset but the prospects of Dave Martinez just excite me significantly more. It mostely has to do with my love of Joe Maddon, that guy is all kinds of special.
  22. Jon Heyman doesnt sound like #chisox would be legit landing spot for francona. folks think they may go younger 2 minutes ago via web
  23. Buster Olney In the span of about 20 minutes, we saw the two worst September collapses in baseball history. 32 minutes ago What a night of baseball.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) WPA graphs Red Sox had a 95.3% chance of winning in the 9th. The Rays literally had no chance of winning in the 8th. Amazing stuff. That's simply incredible. It couldn't have played out any worse for the Red Sox.
