  1. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) Did Mouton use to play catcher at all? Not in the majors.
  2. It's so beautiful.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Looking at the MLB site, there is no mention of an executive of the year among the EOY awards. Just not there. But someone mentioned another one in this thread, the BWAA. Not sure what that is (Baseball Writers Association of A**holes?). EDIT: Also, Kalapse metioned IRRC. Don't know what that is either (International Red-sox Racketeering Conspiracy?). If I Recall Correctly
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) I'm just 19, and we definitely still would do this during the summers now. We wouldn't even need that many people. We'd use pitcher's hand as a rule for outs at first, and then we'd have ghost runners, etc. We'd do the same w/ football. We'd just need 3 people. One would be a QB, one would be on offense (no running plays), and another on defense. Two-hand tap, two completions equaled a first down, and the length of the boulevard was a TD. Neighborhood sports = the best. Sometimes we'd play baseball 2 on 2. Right field was out except you could hit the ball over the track in right for a HR, also ground balls to the right side were fair, we played pitcher's hand with ghost runners and we used a teeball. We'd play it at the park which had a track running all the way around it so if you hit the ball over the track it was a HR. The problem with the track was; it was about 150 feet down the left field line and then the track went straight out so it was about 400 feet to dead center.
  5. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Cangelosi or Rooney? Rooney.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) I guess we differ then, because I think Mark Kotsay deserved it more, but whatever.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Is Exec of Year even a MLB award...??? Now.. stepping back.. I don't see anyone that won anything not deserving of it - yes, even Hunter. I'm not one to b**** about individual awards because I just don't care all that much. But Torii Hunter in no way, shape or form deserved to win a GG this year. He won it strickly based on reputation when a guy like Mark Kotsay who had a much better defenive season and played 41 more games than Hunter gets shafted. The GG has been a joke since '99 but that's no excuse to continuously f*** over deserving players.
  8. Not suprising in the least. I figured the voting would turn out about this way. And once again, another correct prediction for me
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) Interesting comparison no doubt. We'll see how Tracy does next season, although a .982 OPS in the 2nd half of 2005 certainly is a good way to into 2006. 2nd half numbers: Rowand - 279 AB, 57 R, 20 2B, 15 HR, 48 RBI, .319/.377/.559/.936 Tracy - 240 AB, 37 R, 16 2B, 17 HR, 38 RBI, .313/.374/.608/.982
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) Do the other GM's vote on the award, because that's what they did with Ozzie's (rmember Macha had 4 votes, Guillen only had 5)? If I did about 3 minutes worth of research I could answer all questions involved in this situation. However, I just don't care enough about this to make the effort. For some unknown reason I just don't care about individual awards all that much this season.
  11. It wasn't a contest, don't get too excited.
  12. Actually I think the Sporting News award may be the main award. IRRC, didn't Ozzie win the Sporting News Manager of the Year Award?
  13. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=847597
  14. QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) I'll never tell.... why you comparing him to Tracy? I don't know, all the trade talk kinda has me depressed and since so many people seem to love Tracy after the great season he had. I figure I'd compare the two seasons side by side. It just shows how fast an OPS can drop 200 points.
  15. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) Per Phil Rogers, who's at the GM meeting in Palm Springs: That's a bit steep. I say congrats to you Paulie, take it if you can get it. Link There is absolutely no way in hell KW goes above 5yrs/$65M. He's just too intelligent to be throwing that kind of money around at a guy like Konerko.
  16. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) Wow, that is total BS. Does anyone know when they announce manager of the year? They already did. Ozzie won.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) Player ones stats are not from this year i take it? You would be correct in the assumption.
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) I think they'll end up doing all the teams. It's pretty easy to cringe at watching him do the teams I despise; it's going to be even worse when we have to see him f*** up his impression of KW. I highly doubt they end up doing every damn team. It's already f***ing stupid, imagine how old it will be by the time they get to the 20th press conference.
  19. Player 1: 487AB, 94R, 38 2B, 24HR, 69 RBI, 17SB, .310/.361/.544/.905 + Great Defense Player 2: 503AB, 73R, 34 2B, 27HR, 72 RBI, 3 SB, .308/.359/.553/.911 + Suspect Defense
  20. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Cano doesnt even deserve to be in the top 4.. Name 4 more deserving rookies in the AL please.
  21. Hey, atleast we get to see the Cubs press conference tomorrow. No, seriously Steve Phillips will be doing a Cubs press conference tomorrow.
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) Yes, boo to a young (27), inexpensive ($345K), consistant 25+HR hitter with a .334OBP, .484SLG, and .272AVG. You pie-in-the-skyers crack me up. Delgado and Furcal!!!111!1!11 That $345K salary will be going up drastically the next few seasons. It will not be that low to start the '06 season first of all, with him hitting his first year of arbitration after the '05 season. With another good season next year, his arbitration salary will rise substantially for the '07 season unless a long term contract is worked out. This however is in no way shape or form a reason to not persue a player (unless his name is Teixiera). This info is strictly FWIW.
  23. I was right on both. Also . . . Willy Tavares got runner up in the NL as well as Robinson Cano in the AL
  24. 3+ year deals for Garland, AJ and Crede + Konerko + Matsui = $95M-$100M. This idea is beyond a pipe dream, inorder to afford this we'd have to lose a pitcher.
