Current Compromise on Tax Cuts
I really hope everyone that has the chance to is listening to Sanders right now. I've been watching since he started, haven't heard a thing I disagree with.

Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years
What a terrible contract.

Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years
Too much money and he's a leg injury away from turning into Juan Pierre.

With AJ back for two more years, I would expect Flowers to be traded pretty soon. Viciedo, as much as I love him, doesn't really have a position either.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) Cliff Lee is a stud, but damn, that's a long contract to sign for a pitcher that's 32. Heyman is notorious for being a mouthpiece for agents. There's a reason the 7 year teams are "mystery". Hint: they don't exist. I don't understand why the Padres traded for Bartlett, I figured the AGon trade was a white flag. Looks like a directionless team to me.

If Pena bounces back he could net the Cubs a draft pick next year

Cubs sign Pena
Low low low BABIP last year, yet still had a nice Iso. He should bounce back nicely against the NLCentral's terrible pitching.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 02:31 AM) If Konerko goes elsewhere why does everyone like D. Lee so much better than Adam LaRoche ? LaRoche is 4 years younger than both Kornerko and Lee. LaRoche is pretty average for a 1b, Lee has been very good when not hurt.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
Have to hope he's the Brave's Lee and not last year's Cub's Lee.

It's nice to pick up that supplemental draft spot, this is a very deep draft. I wish Putz luck, the AZ bullpen was comically bad last year so they're probably gonna overpay to bring him in.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) I just ran our lineup through Pinto's lineup generator. I averaged Morel's major and minor league stats to try to clear up some massive sample size issues, but this is what i got. You get 5.239 Runs per game from the order of Dunn, Konerko, Beckham, Quentin, Rios, Morel, Ramirez, Piersynski, and Pierre. This is bizzare and unworkable, but the logic is sound. The key to winning baseball games is about getting your best hitters the most at-bats. Yeah, it really just comes down to maximizing the number of at-bats for your best hitters.

QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) I don't think Bobby would come unless he had the closer label. If he doesn't get it here he'll get it somewhere else. He seems too proud to come back for less money AND a lesser role. I think he said in recent informal interview that he really wants to back, closer or not.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) For those who said they would welcome Bobby Jenks back on a lot smaller deal, would you be confident with him closing? Ozzie has said if Bobby were to come back he would NOT be guaranteed the closer's job. EDIT: fixed I'd be content having him come back cheaper and have to fight for the spot. his peripherals from last year indicate that he wasn't nearly as bad as he looked.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Beckham's OBP in the 2nd half last year was .380, Dunn's OBP in his career is .381. So, the difference I'm giving you is that one guy is walks and HR's, one guy is more well rounded, singles, doubles, and HR, fewer walks though, but similar OBP values and similar slugging. Well then you put Beckham in front of Dunn. Based on probability, you want the lineup to be a simple descending order of OBP. Of course it's never that simple, but hey, that's just the math of it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) Let's ask it this way, hypothetically, let's say Beckham comes out and gives a .900-ish OPS while hitting .310, similar to what he did in the 2nd half last year except with a bit more power. On the other hand, Dunn gives you a .900 OPS with 42 home runs, but hits .245 and strikes out 190 times, with the slugging and walks making up for the low average. Which guy would you want where? I've qualified with similar OPS values between the 2 guys, so now we're talking roughly similar runs between them. You put the high OBP guy in front of the high SLG guy.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) I'm not going to pull punches here, I dont believe him at all. Neither do I, but that's mostly because I think Hoyer is either a moron or working for the Red Sox and only worked with them on the deal.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) The Pader GMs press confernce was on MLBN and he bascuslly said it by not saying the whitesox were interested. He said he needed to move fast cause Boston and anoter team were liking at possible free agent solutions at the postion. Also said Boston package was deeper then others even though the other offer included major league talent or major league ready talent but lacked depth. kW is all in folks. Ken_Rosenthal Loney a trade option? http://bit.ly/b7JX0U #Cubs #Nationals #Dodgers #MLB 16 minutes ago in case we miss out on PK? The real reason Hoyer traded AGon to the Red Sox is that Hoyer is obsessed with Casey Kelly and was blinded by hubris.

Boston DOES Acquire Gonzalez
Read this on another forum One of my best friends and co-workers was Casey Kelly's high school tutor and when I told her about him being the centerpiece in a trade for a really good player, she said, "Well he still reads at a fourth-grade reading level so he better hope this baseball thing works."

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:40 AM) If the Jays got Lawrie, then that would be a good trade for them. Really, for both sides. The Jays pump out pitching like nobody's business, so to get back Lawrie plus anything else is pretty damn impressive.

Boston DOES Acquire Gonzalez
It's looking more likely that there is no extension, they'll go with 1 year and sign the extension later. This is largely because if they sign him after ST they don't get with the luxury tax.

Boston DOES Acquire Gonzalez
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) There's another possibility off the board. Gonzalez was offered the same amount of cash even while playing for only 6 million in 2011, and setting himself up with a stacked team. Its a little different than Werth. Werth already has a ring and if the Nats win while he is there he gets to be a hero.

Nats sign Werth
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) With the AGon revelations...boston busts their ass on getting a crawford deal done I think. And God willing, is blocked the Angels or some other equally hilarious team. and the Rangers keep Lee and all is well in baseball.
