  1. The Angels, Mets, and Rangers could make a big push for him, especially if the Rangers lose out on Lee. This "only the Red Sox can afford him" talking point is such a destructive media narrative that contributes to the big money teams feasting on the rest.
  2. SI_JonHeyman: there is optimism the gonzalez trade will happen. but on the of chance it doesn't, #padres will keep him and won't field offers. #redsox in other words Jed Hoyer: Yea I am literally admitting that this was just a deal for my buddy Theo
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) Is that like saying you love midget pornography because it's the worst porn ever? Well, you might think it's the worst ev... I mean yes exactly like that.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) At $105M and that's as of NOW. Before, Danks, Quentin, etc. I think we're looking at $120M unless we see a trade of some sort. Not my money and it looks like JR doesn't care either.
  5. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) This is from Rosenthal's article about the Dunn signing. It's a quote that hasn't really got much attention, but from a reliable source like Rosenthal I find it interesting. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Chicago...-million-120210 I can't help but think Quentin's involved, and I HIGHLY doubt this was about the Linebrink trade. Next week is sure to be both really exciting and most likely a huge letdown.
  6. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) 0.000001% chance this is a swap for quentin It's actually for Linebrink. Best trade ever?
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) Soriano would be a brutal addition at the money he will command. I've learned over the last few years that overpaying for relievers, even closers, is a recipe for disaster. Just realized he's a type A, no thank you.
  8. Hasn't KW been rumored to be after Rafael Soriano? He'd be a great addition and with Sale, our bullpen would be pretty strong and as long as KW is back, the lineup would be as close to complete as possible without breaking the bank to get a new LF.
  9. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 05:07 AM) Inverted W + Limited IP in his college career + Small frame + high 90's FB = blown UCL before August? I think we're all just hoping that if no one talks about it, it won't happen. Thanks for ruining a good thing!
  10. The only reason I don't like that 3 year contract is that I want him to sign for longer. I want him to be a terrible shortstop with a declining bat for as long as possible, who can't be benched because he's Derek Jeter.
  11. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) I hate the offseason. I hate that no matter how bad a player is, inevitably there will be a thread about the Sox going after him. It's always the same thing too. "But what if Cooper can fix him/He just needs a change of scenery". It's like being a kid and my parents telling me the store brand cereal is just as good. No it isn't and the Sox aren't going to get better if our targets are Zach Duke and Delwyn Young.
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 03:55 AM) Why the low value for Vizquel? Because Vizquel wasn't very good?
  13. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) Oof. That hurts. The thought of Kotsay getting significant playing time in the regular season only bothers me marginally, but this is the first time I've thought about a lineup with Kotsay batting sixth IN THE PLAYOFFS. Ouch. And I'm not one of the guys who loses sleep over our DH situation, but I'd still be pretty mad at Ozzie. Somehow, I think cooler heads will prevail eventually, but I'm not sure what I'm basing that on. Haven't we been saying that for months now though?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:56 AM) That's exactly what everyone said about Nick Swisher too. Now everyone wants him back. That's because Swisher is actually good at baseball and was traded for clubhouse issues. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:24 AM) For 2008, you could add Nick Swisher to that list... If Brian Anderson was capable of hitting the baseball, the name Rob Mackowiak wouldn't be there for 2006. The funny thing is that Andruw Jones is actually hitting for a lower BA, but he adds defense and power, so nobody even complains about his complete inability to hit sliders or almost anything coming up to the plate these days. Jones has been barely adequate, but there's no sense in complaining about him when the other half of the platoon is so much worse. He has a higher OBP and that power difference is significant.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Ah crap. Looks like we're not getting anything then. KW is going to try again today, apparently. I thought there were questions as to how soon Manny would come back and if he'd even be back in time for a big push, though.
  16. Apparently the Yankees are on the verge of landing Berkman, taking out a rival in the Dunn sweepstakes.
  17. If you can add him without sending Hudson, you can swing Hudson for a nice bat. I dont really understand Jackson as a target though. Thats a pricey rotation.
  18. Twins are close on Matt Capps, Wilson Ramos looks to be a part of it. Go grab Drew Storen if you play fantasy.
  19. Haren played well in the AL before and signed to a below market deal. Oswalt's contract is pricey but with 11 mil comng along that's not really an issue. A few months ago Wade said he'd eat money to get better prospects in a trade and I cant imagine how bad theyd be if he didnt send money.
  20. The third prospect is such a non-prospect that his name is mispelled half the time, including the BP prospect handbook.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) If the Phillies have to pick up his option and there's no money coming in, that's somewhat balanced I'd say. The Astros are sending ELEVEN million to Philly. A package of Garcia, Retherford, and De Aza would be better than either one so far.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) Ken_Rosenthal The players in the Oswalt deal, which is still not official: J.A. Happ, OF Anthony Gose, SS Jonathan Villan. #Phillies #Astros #MLB 1 minute ago via web Aside from the Peralta deal has a team really overpaid in a trade yet? Prices are reported to be astronomical but it hasn't manifested itself in any official deals just yet. It's really been quite the opposite. Both Haren and Oswalt have been traded for pretty terrible packages.
