  1. Phillippe Aumont, Michael Taylor named so far. Both are very good prospects.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) Well the NL is certainly spoken for next year (you could probably say that with Lee as well). Lee has been great the last two years. But Halladay has been great the last eight years. And with Halladay reportedly willing to sign an extension, it's a no-brainer for the Phillies. I am very interested to see what prospects the Phils are trading. And the Mariners are going to be DANGEROUS next year. And lol@the Angels. They can't be too happy right about now. The Angels are probably looking at a 3rd place finish with how improved the Ms and Rangers are looking. I think the Ms will be a very strong team next year. Mind-blowing defense, strong pitching and a rather balanced offense. They need a power hitter and then they're pretty much a complete team.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) I maybe in the minority, but I would rather lock up Cliff Lee at this point than Halladay. I love Roy but Lee is younger and a lefty. Not too many dominant lefties in the league like him. Lee appears unwilling to be "locked up". He wants to become a FA and get paid.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) So is this actually done? Heyman thinks it's pretty much finalized but won't be done for a few days. Heyman is an idiot but I think he actually broke this one.
  5. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) Halladay is willing to sign an extension. Lee wants to test the market. Sounds like the Phils want the sure thing. And whoever said this is a 'lateral move' for the Phillies.... what??? Halladay over Lee anyday... Take advantage of Lee's recent success and move him. Yeah, as crazy as it sounds, Halladay may end up with a cheaper contract than Lee. I'm interested to see the massive haul of prospects the Jays end up with if 2 ace pitchers are moving.
  6. At least we finally to get hear Yankees fans complain about losing their favorite player to a team willing to pay more.
  7. QUOTE (sox84 @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 02:18 AM) So would I. I dont want that turd anywhere near the Sox, and I dont care what the stats say. Common sense says every point you bring up is right on the money, and no thanks to that pain in the ass idiot. How many of us thought the exact same thing when the Sox picked up AJ? He carried a terrible reputation, he got into fights with teammates. 99% of Sox fans despised him. How many still wish he wasn't a part of the team?
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 01:44 AM) If the Yankees get Matsui back, I think I’d give some legitimate thought to immediately offering Linebrink for Bradley and cash. I realize the guy's attitude needs a HUGE adjustment, but my god, he fits about every need we have on this team, and the guy can hit. He’s a son of a b****, but that’s not a foreign concept in Chicago. Maybe, he’ll find an environment worth playing for here, maybe not, regardless, I’m game to try. The Cubs are going to panic soon. The Burell talks have fallen through, interest for him is dying out, we can capitalize in a major way here. I really think he would work great for the Sox. Even last year, which was obviously a down year for him, he managed a +.370 OBP. The guy can mash. He'd be cheap and could probably be had for Linebrink, leaving us money to get another OF (I dont think Bradley in the OF would work at all). He would be such a steal if the Cubs paid a large chunk or if they swapped contracts. The Cubs are very talented at throwing players under the bus, what with having their own newspaper. It appears a lot of people here ate it up. The Cubs scapegoated the hell out of him. The organization signed him to a stupid contract, asked him to do stuff he's not good at, and then blamed him when the whole team sucked. Meanwhile, Alfonso Soriano is doing his best impression of Vernon Wells and nobody is trying to run him out of town.
  9. Interesting that one of Putz's incentive clauses is "games finished". Looks like the writing in is on the wall for Jenks.
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) Even the worst outfielders in baseball can go 1000 innings without making more than 3 errors. Just don't drop any routine flyballs (it's not an error if you miss it entirely) or airmail the catcher and you'll be error free. Jason Bay didn't make a single error last season and Jeremy Hermida made 1, Bay is largely regarded as a bad left fielder and Hermida may be the worst. Should-be designated hitters Carlos Lee and Ryan Braun both made 2. With some really good defensive metrics becoming more widely available across the net it's probably time we retire FLD% especially in regards to outfielders. I just hate it when the Sox acquire a guy like Alex Rios and I have to read in the paper (well the paper's website) about his down year in 2007 when he made an unacceptable 7 errors when in fact he was one of the best outfielder in baseball that season. I would say FLD should pretty much be put to pasture for every position. As you said, it's not an error if you don't get to the ball. What if you have absolutely insane range, but can't always come up with the ball as a result? Lots of errors, but still make more plays than the average guy at that position.
  11. When was the last time the Sox non-tendered a player? I don't see it happening with Carrasco.
  12. Fangraphs absolutely adores Gardner. His defense, speed, and OBP make him quite valuable. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) my bad... give em Shelby and Morel Why would the Yankees want a 3b prospect?
  13. I think the question is what could the Sox offer back. The Yankees are pretty much set at every position, so most position prospects are out. The Sox aren't exactly stacked with pitching prospects either.
  14. ^^^ I think they'd move Melky first though. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) Interesting. Olney reported today that the Yankees entered contract negotiations with Damon. They can't fit both could they? It's probably mostly posturing, and they'll take whoever blinks first.
  15. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) Cubs are not gonna lose this guy to us as the new owner will not let this happen image wise Ehhhh, they don't really have a lot of money to work with right now unless they can move Bradley. If the Sox move fast enough they shouldn't have to worry about the Cubs. I would love to pick him up, but if we lose him I wouldn't be heartbroken considering the pile of problems from last year.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) You don't usually get a whole ton of trades during the meeting, but you do often get some after, which probably got started during the meetings. Patience, my friend. Besides TCQ, I can't really think of any Sox moves at the winter meetings in the past few years. There are a few articles out there about how the winter meetings are pretty obsolete for MLB. It's mostly for MiLB. The explosion of communication tech replaced most of what goes on.
  17. I find it really interesting how KW's FA moves are becoming so public. It seems everyone knows that he pursuing Putz and Matsui and expect it to happen, which is contrary to his historical trend. Yet we have no clue what will happen in the OF.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) Frank Thomas going from 1b to DH. Thats where weve all seen it. Although it could be due to injury, age, but there are some pretty big name players who just didnt do as well when they only were dh. I think it's more likely that the numbers decline because players typically become DHs when they leave their prime, have too many injuries, and just aren't as effective as players. Becoming a DH is a result of that, not the cause.
  19. That freed up money has to and will be spent on offense. Putz will probably come quite cheap considering his terrible year and injury.
  20. Great reclamation project, but you can't really count on him at this point.
  21. He made 3.75 last year, so at 4.6 per year for this deal, I'd say the Sox did pretty well. I'd imagine he would have gotten a bigger raise in arbitration.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) For pitchers, yeah. I like it. For hitters, you're not wrong, but the fluctuations in BABIP almost always coincide with fluctuations in regular batting average, with or without the other stats (LD% etc.). But, when looked at with other stats, BABIP can tell you why that fluctuation occurred. If BABIP dips but LD% stays the same, that could be chalked up to luck. If BA drops but BABIP doesn't, it's most likely that they're striking out more. If someone is having a breakout year, but their career BABIP is .250 and now it's .400, you can probably call it a fluke. BABIP is a very useful stat when looked at with other stats. By itself, though, it tells you nothing.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) Note the phrase "would have" on the Quentin part, but ambiguous as to tense on the Jenks part. Key parts there. Honestly, the writing on the wall is clear. The Sox are handcuffed if they want to contend next year. Between player raises and filling two massive holes in the lineup, they just don't have the money without moving someone. Jenks is one of the few parts that could be replaced internally.
  24. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) The Chicago White Sox are not the kind of organization that runs garbage players out as everyday starters in Center Field, sorry Andrew. Darren Erstad, Rob Mackowiak, Brian Anderson, Andy Gonzalez, Luis Terrero, Dewayne Wise, Jerry Owens, Brent Lillibridge, Ken Griffey Jr. well past his prime, Pods after he was out of the majors for over a year. I'd say Jones has a great chance to be our starting CF.
  25. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) The Winter Meetings are about to get underway. I predict KW to do something HUGE, perhaps involving Jenks. . . The Rays want to add a backstop and bolster their bullpen. Hmm perhaps Jenks and Flowers for BJ Upton. Will Carroll thinks KW will make a move, albeit a small one. Of course the last time he made a small move at the winter meetings he got TCQ.
