  1. My prediction that I didn't want coming true, and I even have this in writing, was that following MB's perfect game, we'd experience another 07, just like MB's no hitter.
  2. The Sox are kicking in salary relief for Thome also, and received a terribly non-prospect. How does that make any sense from any angle?
  3. How did the Sox manage to get a decent prospect for Jose, but crap for Thome?
  4. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:26 AM) Rumors were swirling that Thome had been traded... but Ozzie just shot that down. according to Cowley's twitter. Hasn't Ozzie consistently not known about trades?
  5. Deadline is midnight. I wouldn't be surprised to see none or all of them moved. Some silver lining in all this, I think the Sox are 13th or so in draft rankings, so hopefully we can move up the board on that. Also this makes going after type A FAs less painful (Figgins).
  6. A friend of Tyler Flowers told me that he (Flowers) is 99% expecting a call-up.
  7. That debatable. I can't remember a team more ravaged by injuries as this year's Mets. Do they even have anyone from the starting lineup left? The Mets from the beginning of the season is a contending team, clearly it isn't the case anymore. They should fire the medical staff before they fire Minaya. Look at what has happened with Reyes. He's out for a week with "cramps", then strains, now there are ligament tears.
  8. Rios seems to be better suited hitting in the 2 spot. Put Beckham at the 3 hole. He should also be in CF. What are you doing Ozzie?
  9. Had a chat with a good friend of Flowers today. Some of the highlights: *Will 99% be a Sept. callup * There's a strong chance that he'll be a backup in the bigs next year, with AJ seeing a dramatic reduction in playing time. *The organization absolutely sees him as the catcher of the future and has no intention of moving him. *Is a good clubhouse guy.
  10. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 11:54 PM) I wonder what the hell is going on with JR for him to be "making it rain" on KW like this. Well, he is getting up there in years. Plus how many more times does KW have to prove himself on moves like this.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) Stay tuned, folks. "Jays just called press conference. Alex Rios? TBA...10 minutes ago from mobile web" http://twitter.com/MLBastian/status/3233546881 Now he's saying we got Rios, nothing in return Sweet.
  12. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 05:30 AM) Can you confirm to me via PM? I promise I won't tell anyone... And even if it isn't the Jays I just hope he gets traded so the book can be finally closed on all those bad drafts and poor development projects. McCulloch + Fields to the Jays would be perfect. I think he means he can't confirm because he isn't certain of what team they scout for.
  13. Sox D today will probably motivate KW a bit more to get Rios. That was just terrible.
  14. QUOTE (beck72 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) I disagree. The sox could give them a decent deal by including players not on the 40 man roster. It really depends on if the Jays want to rid themselves of the large contract, or get the most in return from Rios as possible. If the Jays want to get the most for Rios, they should wait until the offseason. If they want to rid salary, they should definitely do the deal with the sox. I hadn't really looked at the 40 man, but you're right, there's quite a bit of talent in the system that's not on there.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) It’s bouncing around the net (Baseball Prospectus has a mention about it) that the Jays are strongly considering just giving Rios and his salary over, without any moves in return. Apparently, they’d like to work something out, but haven’t ruled out simply making it a straight waver claim. So, nothing really new to report, but the story has legs. It's very possible that they work out a hand shake sweet heart deal for this, where in the offseason KW makes a lopsided trade in Toronto's favor. This would be because of the difficulty of getting a trade done through waivers.
  16. If KW doesn't get Rios now, he'll try again in the offseason and every year from here on out. What Kenny wants, Kenny gets.
  17. Besides, at this point it's really up to Ricciardi. KW put in the claim, and it's now just time to wait for what Ricciardi will do.
  18. It could be a choice for CF between "overpaying" Rios, or hoping to land Figgins as a FA but having to give up a draft pick for him. I'd rather go with Rios.
  19. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) I wish. If we put him in CF where he belongs he's absolutely worth his contract. Plus his BABIP is some 40 points below his career average, so there's a huge chance for a bounceback, especially in the Cell.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) The problem is...his contract may be fair, but he's on a team that can't afford too many fair, or especially any unfair contracts. And they have at least 1 of the latter. I'm sure the Jays would love to move him simply to free up some payroll to resign Halladay.
  21. His defense is incredible if you put him in CF. Fangraphs thinks his contract is fair if you consider his whole game. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/rios-wells/ I wouldn't mind picking him up, but I bet it was the Mets.
  22. A FB pitcher at NYS sounds like a recipe for disaster, especially one fresh off the dl.
  23. Nix may not be better than Ramirez but I'm certainly happy to keep him around as a bench option.
