  1. Sounds like Owens gave up the run on that play. Misplayed it pretty bad. Good to hear.
  2. Speaking of the Braves, according to MLBTR says we're going after Ohman.
  3. The biggest problem with Owens sucking is that BA is barely playing any better. I guess that's also an issue with b games not being counted in the stats. But still, BA is really not capitalizing on this opportunity.
  4. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 11:10 PM) I'm starting to think that us having four picks in the first two rounds is meaning less and less for us. I forget where, but I read that this upcoming draft class is one of the worst talent and depth-wise (most depth with college arms) in a while and there's not much talent besides a few college guys, a select group of high school arms, and a high school star OF named Donovan Tate, who has five tool potential. I think we'd be lucky to get one decent impact guy in the earlier rounds out of this draft. Hopefully that changes as the college and high school seasons progress. Maybe they'll do what the Yankees did and not sign their picks so they get protected ones next year to ensure better positions in the FA market for 2010.
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) That'll go down south if he doesn't pitch well from the get go. I still think the Sox should be cautious with him, and give the 5th starter's job to Richard or Marquez for a month, but I doubt that's going to happen. Yeah, if he doesn't pitch well immediately be prepared to hear lots of "I can't believe he rushed back from the DL. That was clearly a mistake. Cost us the season"
  6. To throw more fuel on the fire, BP ranked Carter as a 5-star prospect. Gio and Cunningham are 3-star.
  7. Of all the players we gave up, Carter may be the best in terms of talent. However, in terms of value to the Sox, it's between Cortes and Cunningham.
  8. But giving up Carter was worth it. None of those other trades were.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Ahead of Porcello BTW. And Carter, Cunningham and Gio make the list. So did Cortes. I think we're really gonna regret trading Cunningham.
  10. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...009/267698.html Easily the highest we've seen him, and he's only had a fraction of a season under his belt. Dayan - 61 Poreda- 66 Flowers - 99 Staggering number of former Sox prospects on the list too.
  11. If you look at Ben the "reporter"'s profile picture, he does look to be around 14. Makes sense when you consider how he reacts to the criticism.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) If we were to look back around the time of 1999/00/01, look at the Sox prospects who have made the biggest impact (not counting Garland, who wasn't incubated in our system). Buehrle Josh Fogg Those were two of the lowest rated in our Top 10 list around that time...and then you have Rowand, who many thought might turn out to be more like Aaron Cunningham/Jeremy Reed in terms of a big league career as a 4th OF. You could even argue that Biddle and Majewski were fringe prospects who made a bigger impact than most our top-rated guys. But look at all the busts. Kip Wells, with the Sox...and for most of his MLB career Danny Wright Aaron Myette Jon Rauch Lorenzo Barcelo Jason Stumm Brian West Corwin Malone Joe Borchard Matt Guerrier (well, it's a stretch to refer to him as a "top" prospect) Matt Ginter Rauch is a pretty good reliever now, but yeah, that's a rough list..
  13. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) Yea I really think people are sleeping on Viciedo hard core. From the amount of money he got (and the interest from teams like the Yankees) I would think he would have been a top #10 pick in this year's draft. So he's overweight? He's 19 years old for god's sake. Give him a year or two with a professional training staff, a personal chef, and the pride of being a cuban MLB player and I think he'll be a bronze titan soon enough. Most non-track athletes (football players, baseball players, basketball big men) are a bit soft in their late teens. I see no worry here. Plus the Sox are expecting him to compete for a starting 3B spot as a 19 year old! That speaks to the lack of any real options in the org, but it also speaks to how advanced Danny is for his age. The problem is that he is so young and from the Cuban league, so it's really hard to get a feel as to what he'll do in the future. What he does this season will really change his standing, for better or worse. Who was been the Sox's highest ranked prospect in the past few years? I was thinking BA or Borchard.
  14. Not really considering Javy threw more innings last year than Colon has in the past 3 combined
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) If he throws that well with the Sox and doesnt throw out his back hitting like he did last season, he will be a VERY solid piece of the puzzle. Yeah, he was throwing really well last year. If he manages to lose some weight and we don't let him hit, just have him stick to bunting, he might last.
  16. It would still be nice to sign Freddy anyway and trade him again.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 04:21 AM) http://www.replacementlevel.com/index.php/...ected_standings Things to keep in mind... 1) It's from a Yankees' blog, so there's lots of NYC/Boston bias built in...although the numbers supposedly come from Hardball Times. 2) Almost 3 90 win teams in the AL East...although this has happened a couple of times recently (06 Central, 02 AL West) 3) The White Sox are far from finished...we hope...in setting their roster 4) Projections for young Sox players are very difficult to make (well, just being optimistic!) 5) The A's over the Angels, and nobody finishing over .500 in the AL West? 6) SF Giants to go on a tear, well, maybe...with Manny Ramirez and dumping Zito/Rowand somehow From what I've read, the Vegas line for the White Sox is somewhere around 80-82 wins. I wonder where BP will come in this year? If they predict 72 wins again, everyone will freak out, because that was the exact correct prediction in 2007. Of course, they were very wrong last year and in 2005...as well as 2004, for example. The AL East is easily the best division in baseball. The Angels outplayed their pythag last year and regressed this offseason. Meanwhile, the A's have improved significantly. 6 The Giants have a great rotation, and really, the West is pretty weak.
  18. Henderson should've been unanimous. Rice shouldn't have gotten in. He has no better case than Raines, Dawson, or Baines. Blyleven really should be in and it's a joke he's not.
  19. Abreu's poor defense in CF would most likely cancel out his offensive benefits in the long run. He's no Raul Ibanez, but barely.
  20. Don't the O's already have a crowded outfield?
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 05:12 AM) That will end as soon as we stop saying all white basketball players are "heady" (like Steve Nash or Troy Skinner, lol) and all black basketball players are athletic/raw/uncoachable/emotional/selfish...the Jon Garland myth will live on forever in time. and bad/mediocre white baseball players are scrappy/grindy.
  22. Yeah, but we did give up a legit OF prospect to get him in Cunningham. I think we'll regret letting him go.
  23. Yeah, he seems pretty confident in that happening.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) Wells really came after Thomas for being a sissy and being injured (faking it) when it turned out that Thomas was legitimately hurt...I think that was the bone spur/foot/bursitis injury. Didn't he go on the local radio (he had a show for awhile) and make himself look like an A-S-? The option was also declined because it looked to be a huge risk coming off the mysterious back problems/injury and with his age and weight issues. They did received about $5.5 million back for the 2001 season in an insurance claim, but KW really didn't show much interest in bringing Wells back, even with "make good" contract terms. Sirotka wasn't known by most in baseball to be likely to be done with his career...I can't imagine Gord Ash was so foolish as to take a picture they thought was injured. Obviously, they didn't do their 'due diligence' in that case. Wasn't Thomas's injury his tricep that time?
