I think this series comes down the the bullpen. Thornton, Carrasco, Dotel, Linebrink, etc. need to step it up and be lights out. Losing to the Twins will be bad, but blowing a lead against them will be demoralizing. Please no Logan or Ramirez at all in this series. I don't care if we're down or up by 10. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) You said it all southsideirish. I hope Ozzie reads some version of your post to the team. This is not just another series. On a side note ... are any of you too scared to watch? Not flaming, just asking personal preference. Would you rather not follow the game on tv or online, on the gamethread at soxtalk.com? Will you just wait for the final score or watch every inning?? I will be watching for sure, maybe on the computer posting here as well. I have to put up with the Twins announcers which sucks but I'll live. I'm going to the Thursday game so there's no way I can be too scared to watch, although I am so nervous about this series it's not even funny. I've been keeping track of the final 20 series with the Twins and White Sox and ever since the last Twins/Sox series where the Twins won 3 of 4, which was 16 series ago, I've been very nervous.
-
Another thing to note: we haven't been swept in our last 25 series dating back to the June series with the Cubs. The Twins have been swept 4 times since then, except all have been on the road. I think our team is mentally tough enough, and talented enough to get a win in Minnesota.

we need two but we're gonna have to settle with one.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) It's a place every baseball fan, as well as really every sports fan, should go to. It's a shame that not everybody had the chance to visit there, and I feel fortunate I did. I will never like the Yankees, but I gained a full appreciation of their history and everything that happened at Yankee Stadium when I visited, and I think anybody else who has been there would agree with me. I was supposed to go this year but my friends backed out once they saw some of the ticket prices. I regret not going by myself and when I'm older, I'm sure I'll regret it even more. Do you know when they are demolishing it? I know they still have a hockey game there.

It's going to be sad to see Yankee Stadium gone. Love them or hate them, there's going to be an empty feeling when seeing the Yankees play in a new stadium.

Jacksonville beats Indianapolis 23-21. This gives Tennessee a full 2 game lead in the division. It still gets me mad how everyone crossed off Tennessee because they didn't help their wide receiver depth over the offseason. The truth is they were one of the youngest teams last year and they made the playoffs. Their defense is very good and so is their running game. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Am I correct Win 3 in Minny - They are done Win 2 in Minny Magic Number 1 Win 1 in Minny Magic Number 3 Win None and Their Magic Number is 3? Not to be too picky here because I think most of us will think the season is over if we get swept by Minnesota but wouldn't the magic number for them be 4 and not 3? I'm looking at the records right now. Chicago 86-69 Minnesota 84-72 Our magic number is 5. But I think there's right now is 10. 163-84 (Minnesota wins)=79 79-69 (Chicago loses)=10 With my math the magic number would be 4. We get to make up the Detroit game if we're 1/2 game ahead or behind right? If it is totally cancelled, which I don't think is possible, then the magic number for them would be 3.

Minnesota has changed their rotation plans

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) The main idea of the whole series is to win one game and be done with it. It'll be nice to take two, but you have to win at least one. Then you can take care of business back home and win 2/3 from the Indians and hope that the Twins lose one of their games to the Royals. I think the main idea should be to win the series. That way we don't have to hope for the Royals to win a game. It'll be very hard to sweep Cleveland with the way they have been playing lately. I'll take 1 of 3, but if we win the series, all we need is 1 win or 1 Twins loss to win the division. If we sweep, we win the division, but a sweep probably won't happen. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) First start is the most important IMO. Set the tone and start a message. Javy can shut down opponents unlike anyone on our roster. Time he do it in a BIG BIG game. He better show some guts. That's the problem, I don't think he is going to show some guts. This late in the season every start is important, and in a way they are all equally important, meaning the next game is the most important. -

Baker vs. Vazquez Blackburn vs. Buehrle Slowey vs. Floyd The Buehrle start might be the most important start in my opinion. I think we have to get that game because I have a feeling Baker is going to beat Vazquez and it will be important to even the series. I also think that is the one matchup we should win. I think Floyd should beat Slowey, but Slowey has been bad recently I just have an odd feeling he's going to break out of it come out on top, plus the Sox are 2-3 against the Twins when I go to see them and I'm going on Thursday, so maybe I'm a jinx, haha. -
I am so nervous for this upcoming series. I'm going to the game on Thursday. The only way they can clinch it when I'm there is by sweeping the Twins, which I'm sure won't happen. We cannot afford to get swept by them. Winning the series would be completely awesome, but I'll even take one win right now.

ok last week I basically said their are worse teams than the Chiefs. after last weeks game with Oakland and already down 14-0 to Atlanta, as of now they probably are the worst team. the QB situation is horrendous. they have something like 25 rookies and second year players, so hopefully they improve throughout the season. -
pretty predictable ending with Thome.
-
Swisher finally gets a hard hit but has tough luck.
-
just a few feet away from being 5-0. let's wake up the bats and stop the double plays.
-
Dang, inside the parker, I was supposed to be at this game too. As much as it sucks to see it happen, it'd be nice to say you saw one.
-
Magic number to 6, very nice.
-
Twins lose 11-1. Magic number is currently 8 I believe.
-
5 runs so far for the Twins in the top of the 9th. 11-8. If the Sox win their games we don't need to worry about the Twins, but come on Rays, giving up 5 runs in the 9th is terrible.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) 7-6 TB in the 7th. Twins tie it up in the 9th at 8 and are threatening for more.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) What are you talking about? Once Week 1 of the NFL starts, baseball ends anyway. Don't you watch ESPN? I think ESPN mentions football every day, off season or not. -

QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 06:53 PM) They should be startin' tomorrow. MLB season is too goddamn long IMO. Should be 140 games or 150 at the most...that's plenty. It's ridiculous when the last game of the WS is in the first week of November like last year. I don't mind it, because baseball is my favorite sport. -

OC's average is up to .283 after a slow start and another slump this year.
