they are not trading Konerko. They think highly enough of him, that they ask his opinions on personnel moves.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) I am as pessimistic about Floyd as anyone, but they should have him pitch as much as they can stand...or at least put him in the bullpen and see what he does. The Sox don't need to win any more games this season, but they do need to know if Floyd should have a roster spot in 2008. And while I'm sure Cooper is over-rated, it wouldn't hurt to have him work with the big league pitching coach. Rich Hill got the snot beaten out of him repeatedly before turning out to be decent. Give Floyd his shot. The Sox gave innings to Sisco and are carrying Bukvish as a primary setup man. Giving innings to Floyd isn't anymore ridiculous than that. Exactly. The season is over. The entire rest of the sesaon should be evaluation of the talent that we believe has a chance of being on the 08 roster. Floyd has no options after this year. find out, if either he can be fixed, used in the pen, or needs to be sent away. Dont base it on 2 starts. Give him a chance. Get Richar, Sweeney and whatever we get in trades.

Man Save. If Rowand was here, he would of had two 2 innings saves, and had a diving catch on every fly ball and then ceremoniously crashed into the wall, reset his broken nose and drank Dos Equis. Thome what did he do again. It must of been one of those late inning homers, where they were down by 7 runs.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) Rowand would have put that on the concourse. Imagine if Ditka coached Rowand. The world might end when a second god was created here in Chicago. We would be leading 99 to -8. Anything hit in the air, would be caught. And there would be a warning at midway for airplanes flying near the park. -

Andrew Miller might have nintendo stuff and all. But one point I would like to say, is to take a gander at his motion. He throws across his body in a violent manner. There was this texan who struck out 20 on the northside that used to do that same type of thing. He may be healthy forever. But that motion would scare the hell out of me for the long run. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) Yeah, but RBI in the 2nd and 3rd innings only count for half a run on the scoreboard or something apparently. BRING BACK THE FIRE AND THE PASSION The first time he is back, takes a bad route, then needs to dive to recover and gets dirty. The crowd will go wild, and the Kyle Orton lovers will think they were right. Dont get me wrong, I would like Rowand over what we have out there right now. But this mythical creature that was created doesnt exist. -

QUOTE(GoGoWhiteSox! @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) No I could care less about the bears, and I also wouldn't be caught dead calling into the score...except for maybe during Boers and Bernstein. I can't stand M. Murphey. Seriously though, besides Rowand there are numerous other guys K.W. traded away or released thinking he knows more than all other GMs. Damaso Marte: having a great year, Rowand: nough said, L. Vizcaino: also having a good year in the Bronx, B. Mccarthy: was off to bad start, but has been fantastic since coming off DL. My point is it's pretty rare for a team to win the World Series, especially in Chicago, so why the f*** would you immediately start dismantling the team after you win. Ridiculous!! You must have short term memory, or use the WS DVD as a basis of fact for the entire season. You must of forgot the part where Marte, quit on the team during the playoff run. I know that wasnt in chapter two and all, but it did happen. And he was more likely to plunk a lefty than get him out. And if you remember the hocus pocus El Duque miracle at Fenway was due to Marty Party loading the bases with no outs. Vizcaino. Are you sure you remember the 05 season. LOL I am sure you are upset as well that Geoff "Clutch" Blumm is not longer a member of the team. Or Carl 'Heart of a Dragon' Everett is in the DH hole. I love when a connection with a player, becomes an obsession with futility. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) Stick to calling The Score. BTW, what did you say Colorado Sox Fan? I wonder if he is posting on talkbears, talking about how the greatest qb in the history of football is wasting his time on our bench. The one, the only, Kyle "his right shoulder is a f***ing bolt from thor" Orton. -

QUOTE(GoGoWhiteSox! @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) Just to throw this out there; Aaron Rowand's stats tonight: 3 for 4 with 3 runs and 1HR. He is now batting .330 / 15HR /55RBI. IMO I would rather have Rowand than the big dumb Hillbilly Jim Thome. Thome is useless, unless you need a guy who can get you 30HR a year all coming in the 2nd or 3rd inning. I remember Aaron Rowand hitting .245/.235 in August/September of 05, and taking the playoffs off from a bat perspective. But then again Thome doesnt throw himself into the wall and make his face bloody. I hope we dont sign rowand just so the rowand fanboys can have something to complain about. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) I'd love Hu at shortstop. Don't know if it's too reasonable to expect him. Escobar would be an interesting option. Prefer him to Renteria. Hu should be someone we are targetting. He is the type of hitter we dont have, a line drive gap hitter. His defense is supposedly good also. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) You know what makes me so pissed off....seeing Cubs players contribute once they're called up from the minors. Thats because the people they have brought up, have thought line drive first. They have though oppo field first. Our guys are trying to pick which car to hit on the dan ryan. Its the same reason Garko is hitting as well as he is for the Indians, and our guys are hitting in the mid 200's and lower. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) This is honestly embarrassing to watch. Floyd just isn't the recepient of bad luck; he's terrible. Williams needs to reassure everyone again how we're not seeing the real Gavin Floyd. Because from what I've seen in two starts, there should be some people within our organization sweating. Our future depends upon the return value of traded players. That's obvious with our draft results and reluctance to overpay in the free agent market. Receiving one dependable major league player for McCarthy and none (to now) for Garcia won't help us much. That's why I hope everyone doesn't just blow off this upcoming deadline. We desperately need a heist. I've seen quotes around here recently that echo that same sentiment. Productive, cheap players have to come up and balance out the cost of higher priced veterans. We can't do this from within, alone. What do you think of Hu or Escobar for SS. -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) Very good point. I guess since he's played so much outfield for the Sox I expected him to think and play like an outfielder. My mistake. To think, he was originally brought in to backup Crede and play some infield. Then we made him a CF> -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) Weird route by Rob on that sac fly. Looked like he was setting up for a throw home, then kinda drifted and stopped, and soft-tossed it to 2nd. 6-1 Los Tigres. Infielders do that when they play out of position. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) I could understand not shading the direction a pitcher/catcher are setting up. Hitters would quickly catch on if a fielder was constantly moving depending upon a catcher placing their mits inside or outside homeplate. Anyways, there's no guarantee the pitcher throws to the spot the catcher has targeted. I have to imagine Podsednik was set up according to Polanco's hit chart. Problem is, his speed has practically disappeared and his arm is the suck Podsednik sets up in one spot, and doesnt move. He usually sits somewhere the warning track. The ball that Pods didnt catch, hung up for a bit. If he had medicore speed he would of caught up to it. -

Hopefully by next week, we are looking at some different players. I dont trust our capabilty to draft, and prepare our own players. I would rather see what another team has prepared. This offseason, I would like to see a member of a good system come over and take over the minor league development. Get rid of the lift and pull hitting coaches. Find some good glove guys, and some good roving hitting coaches, and lets start a process where the entire minor league system preaches the same thing. We all pull on the same rope. You bunt, you run, you hit, you play unselfish. You learn how to play the game the right way. And in few years we will see something. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) I have been watching the whole game, but just came in the thread, so I aplogize if this has already been said. Floyd has not been great, thats obvious, however Hall is not doing him ANY favors. A few of us talked about it last game he caught, but his pitch selection leaves alot to be desired, and can't throw a lick. As it stands, he brings very little to the club.. Floyd hasnt been all that bad. He should have given up a 3 spot so far. Mack forgot to catch a fly ball. And our defensive alignment is on opposite day. We throw in, we shade away. We throw away, we play for pull. -

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Way to shade him away on an inside pitch call Either the coaching staff doesnt know how to setup the field to play to the strengths of the gameplan, or Prancer is blowing kisses to the crowd and is in his usual spot that he doesnt move from. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Pods really busted his ass on that fly ball. Hall calls just an awful game, as we pitch away from our defense. I honestly don't believe Floyd could ever go through this Tigers 1-5 without allowing a run. To be fair, that last ball is caught by a Left Fielder. We just have the travelling groin show in left tonight for some reason. -
