  1. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) Keep Dye in Chicago Kenny! He made $6.75M and is abargain. Sign him for 2 or 3 more years. He is healthy and hitting an fielding well. We don't need another resurection project, or some underperforming prospect. Dye is a quality player. I lost you at ....he is fielding well.
  2. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) Just wait though....wait until 3/4 of these prospects turn into absolutely nothing. The pendulum will start swinging back the other way. Right now, we've seen it swing completely from veteran certainty to cost certainty, but once that cost certainty fails to produce any sort of performance whatsoever, we'll see it start swinging back to veteran certainty. I love what Schulerholz has done. Classic case of selling high. Look at what has happened to the Angels system. Stoneman has held onto these kids forever, and now the value in most of them has decreased significantly. Dallas McPherson/Kendry Morales/Erick Aybar/Ervin Santana- even Brandon Wood. Imagine the proven vets they could have on that team had they dealt some of those kids prior to them struggling. The key is to identify the few that you really believe in, and sell the others high, before they are exposed. It's actually been something Kenny has done well, whether those were his intentions or not. I understand you guys want to get this team rebuilt....but the price of these kids is almost making that prohibitive right now. We picked an absolute terrible time to be sellers....and the more and more I think about it, we are picking an absolute terrible time to need an overhaul. Unfortunately, the Marlins did it too well after the 05' offseason. The best thing to do might be to just hold on to the solid production we have, try to squirm out of our one bad contract (Contreras), and pray that some patch jobs can keep us competitive until the price of quality pre-arb players reaches reasonable levels again. Otherwise, we might find ourselves without any of our good vets OR any good young kids. Well if thats the case, welcome to the late 80s.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:12 PM) That's such bulls*** though....it's such an excuse being stated by KW. Milwaukee and Atlanta had no problem giving up highly rated prospects for players. KW is HORRIBLE at trading veterans for prospects, end of story. I'm not looking forward to the excuses we'll hear in the press tonight if nothing happens. Wait till Foghorn Leghorn gets into his act tonight. "Well Whitesox fans you will be happy to know, that Kenny in his infinite and super wise wisdom rejected the temptation to give up on this season, and kept Jermaine Dye. Now some of those GMs tried to pull a fast one on him, but Kenny being the best GM in baseball rejected it. I love this team, I love our management. I dont know about you DJ, but I think we will see a little run left in this team. We still have a lot of time left. And more good news, Darin Erstad, the ultimate grinder, should be back. He says his ankle is healthy. Now for the first time all year we will have the full power of our offense all on the field at the same time."
  4. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:08 PM) Why hasn't Mackowiak been traded yet? Because the Dodgers dont want to give up Billingsley for him. Kenny cant give these guys away.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) I can't believe that one of these teams won't meet the price on JD. I mean seriously, it's absolutely insane for teams in the pennant chase to not take a flyer on a guy of his talent level at this price level. It depends on what Kenny is asking for. He could of very well Tampa Bay'd his trade talks this year.
  6. A little over 3 hours minutes to no activity. Erstad is due to come off of the DL soon. I cant wait for the reaction when they send someone down, so they can play the Pods and Grinderstad team to make a run for it.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:34 AM) Or he could get creative and find perhaps a more raw but talented leadoff talent on the trade market. f*** this, I'm not going to be satisfied with Owens, Podsednik or Erstad leading off for a contending team. I'm sick of hearing how there's no one available in free agency, this team needs a real leadoff hitter in order to compete and I don't even consider any of those 3 to be mediocre options let alone competent ones. If he has to he should overpay for some talent, this filling the leadoff spot on the cheap s*** is getting real old. I predicted this team to win 68 games this year largely because of the clusterf*** of ineptitude that this team was set to run out there in the 1 spot this year, I don't see this team winning many more games next year without a guy who can actually produce at the top of the lineup. The funny thing is that you could get what you want if you move a Garland. You know whats going to happen with Garland, we will pander him around the winter meetings, with Kenny asking for major league stars for him. We will work in ST and offer him a 3 year deal at his current work rate which will be rejected. We will then work on selling him at next years deadline and will get a medicore return. I think Kenny uses these trades, or the threats of trades to motivate his employees to sign. Someone will call him on it, and we will get nothing for a guy. We need to trade Garland this year, now where his value is at its best. Or you need to sign him to a long term deal. I have hard time believing we will wrap up so much money in our Starting pitching especially with Gio and crew seeming to have one person emerge out of it to replace him for cheap.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Our OF tomorrow would be Pods, Owens, Pena. WMP should not be put in CF, and is not even close to a threat to Owens if JO keeps hitting well. Ozzie is going to have his small speed guy at the beginning of the lineup. Everyone should accept that, and unless someone can find a better option on the FA market, which I certainly can't see, your choices are Pods, Erstad, and Owens. I sure hope, therefore, that Owens keeps hitting. After tomorrow if we made this trade. It should be Owens in CF, Sweeney in RF, and WMP in LF. Pods should be either traded for a class A prospect or designated for assignment, Erstad should be designated for assignment.
  9. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) Without going back and reading this whole thread, why not trade Thome and resign Dye for 2 years as our DH. I would assume Thome might actually get something back in return since no one really wants to offer anything for Dye. Dye somewhat, is still a position player. Thome is a DH. So you eliminate the entire NL in your trade talks, now how many contending teams have a need for a DH. The Angels, and. .... So you have one team. What is your return going to be?
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) Are the Sawx still looking for another pitcher? If so, maybe we could throw JC in with JD and get Wily Mo and a Delcarmen-esque pitcher in return, since that offer was a bit too rich for the Sawx before for just JD. They dont need a plus 10 million dollar pitcher to throw batting practice. They already have a cheap coach for that.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) Please no new trades with the Phillies. The Dodgers/Mets would be great trade partners though. To me, there are 3 teams that have the horses we want for Garland. Dodgers Arizona Mets
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) According to Levine, the only way the Sox get a second player along with Pena is if Dye signs an extension with Boston. This is getting ugly.
  13. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) Please, please no more Erstad. He's like that character from Unbreakable. Mr. Glass, hell thats not a bad nickname for him.
  14. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) And it goes to need, we have Fields and possibly Crede next season, both are acceptable 3B, but our C position is getting continually weaker and Salty would have solidified that position for years to come. Might I turn your attention to the "elephant in the room", or more to the point the one playing shortstop that is about to make 5 million dollars next year. Our top item of return, should be a near ready SS. Having one more season of that guy swinging from his heels, telling farmer everyday Profundo, and then now playing good defense every so often is enough to drive everyone mad. It used to be that Uribe played masterful defense to mask his horrible plate presence. But now that isnt the case. His weight is also an issue. SS's are very hard to find, and the one we have is not doing it and there is nothing in our minor system to replace Profundo. So that means, we can have Project Uribe part II next year for 5 mil.
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 03:20 AM) Rotoworld also cites a Sports Illustrated article suggesting Garland won't be traded because Williams demands young players, and teams are unwilling to surrender such a price. I'm sure 'young players' refers to those currently in the majors, and not prospects. Regardless, I'm still expecting Garland to be dealt. If not, well, I'll openly cheer for this team to lose enough games ot earn the #1 draft selection. I don't know how else this team acquires legitimate talent to compete within the American League central if not for trades or a high draft pick. We could have the number one draft pick, and that doesnt mean that we will pick the number one overall talent. Hell, depending on who is representing the top 10 talent, we could be looking for something we could of gotten if we had a 500 season or better. It will be pretty interesting to see how and what they draft with a top 10 draft pick next year.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) I'd do Dye for Bourn, assuming of course that he's alright which he appears to be. I'd also do Podsednik for Dubee part II or Erstad for half a Philly cheese steak sandwich. The only way that Ozzie doesnt play Pods and Grinderstad over prospects, is if you take his toys away.
  17. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) I think Jermaine has 3-4 years left... do you disagree? As a full time DH, maybe. As a full time OF, he will be injured a lot.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) Because I'm not feeling that well so I thought I could ruin someone else's night as well. Seriously though, I'd love for that deal that you mentioned to happen, but it's not going to, it's just not. Ozzie and Kenny will not rebuild. They will do whatever it takes, including blowing through what is left of our farm system to push for a playoff hunt next year. For Kenny, it might be self preservation. For Ozzie, he wants vets and a playoff push, not a rebuilding process. Dont be shocked if one of our nice young pitchers gets moved for a bullpen arm, or vet piece. Its a completely insane move, and very short sighted, but until I see Kenny trade off Garland or Dye I wont believe in his retooling.
  19. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) 5/43, 13 K's now in Charlotte. Simply awesome Wait till he is our starting CF next year with Pods in Left. It will be like groundhog day.
  20. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) Williams would be an absolute moron if he doesn't step into this discussion. Beane, according to that article, is asking for three premier prospects. Williams asks for two (including either Kershaw or Hu) and I'd be elated. Don't f*** this up, Kenny. You are going to be disappointed when we have Dye signed to a 3 year deal, Uribes option picked up, and pods and erstad as our dynamic 1-2 punch. Remember we get our MVP Ozuna back. Wait till you get a load of our trade net next year. Our top 10 pick will be signable guy, who just either started to put it together this year(making sure he isnt on anyones radar, or has new found velocity), but we will be the first to sign them. I am getting myself ready for worst case so I can be pleasantly surprised, hopefully. I bet you though, Pods and Erstad will be here haunting us next year.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) ESPN is rumoring that Blanton may be on his way to the Dodgers. And we wonder why we get wrecked out in Oakland. Dont worry we can hope the lift and pull geriatric crew can relive their 2005 magic.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) If it weren't the night before the trading deadline, I probably would have agreed. What sense would it make -- if an organization was concerned with Kershaw -- to have him projected as the starter, go through the entire routine to prepare, pitch one inning, then remove him without a high pitch count or being hit around? And, then soon after, suggest injuries weren't related to the removal? I guess we'll find out fairly soon. The Dodgers just can't sit on this all night. Beane is going to beat us to the punch on this. Unlike Williams, Beane doesnt have distaste for spinning a pitcher for some prospects. KW will balk at it, or try to get one major league ready guy who doesnt have the ceiling of a few AA/AAA guys that might be a year away. We have a need at SS, and we have a team that has a block with Furcal over Hu. And we will get the privilege of watching him, and a few others Oakland A us to death when we go out that way. I have a bad feeling, that KW will lack the guts to pull the trigger enough to do this right. It will be half assed and we will be out of this for a long while. The right moves, and you have to give up talent to get it, will allow us to rebuild quicker. Garland must go. If Garland doesnt go, then KW better sign him to a long term deal. Because if he is just going to dump him for peanuts next year because garland wont go for the hometown discount.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) I still doubt Kershaw gets dealt. Just a hunch I guess. Part of any Garland to Dodgers deal needs to net Hu. We need to ween ourselves off of the double cheeseburger factory at SS who will be over .260 next year, yes two sixty and i mean pounds, and likes to swing for the fence and yell Profundo and will be making 5 large for 220's.
