Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) I hope your right... but I won't me pissed if we get nothing in return. This thread makes me laugh since a friend of mine(Cubs fan) called me yesterday and said something along the lines of, "Dude, I just read we are looking to get Pods!!" He was happy... made me laugh. Thats okay, Marc Silverman of ESPN 1000 was talking about how they would move Pods over to centerfield, when Soriano comes back. That just made me think, Soriano in Left, Pods in Center, Jones in RF. Possibly the worst defensive OF that has ever been assembled in the history of baseball. -

Pitching and defense killed this one tonight. tomorrow Fields should be out there, with Cora having him charging balls at 3rd before the game. -

The sox have only 5 hits, against POOP. Uribe hits the 6th out of the park. -

So guess which one will be at the bag at third for the next 5 years. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) Low and away has been a strike all night for Laffey, to bad Mark didn't go there too. Thats how you shut down a white sox team. Spot low and away, and let the pull monkeys take off. -

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) That's the risk of signing someone like Buehrle long term. Without overpowering stuff, if his location isn't perfect or close to it, he will get rocked. Well he 9 times out of 10, throws the cutter in. And pitches well. But tonight, he left pitches up. His cutter didnt cut, and AJ decided to put a lawn chair up on the outside corner and stay there. Thats when Mark gets rocked. -

When Buerhle uses his cutter and pounds righties in, and then goes away. He owns teams. When he throws away away away, and then leaves the pitch center cut. The gets wrecked. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) Being at the game yesterday, I noticed that almost every grounder to Josh, he backs up on it. Barely throws guys out sometimes. The fact that he went through our system without that being fixed says a lot for our minor league instruction. he needs someone to hit a lot of balls to him, and to teach him to charge the ball. Its fixable, it should of been fixed in the minors, but its fixable. -

This team and the twins are examples of teams you should pound in, in, and in. We keep going away away and they hit the ball to right like crazy. The gameplan tonight was horses*** from the pitching strategy. And Buerhle is just throwing meatballs up there as well. -

Juan Uribe with some more of that dazzling defense we keep hearing about. Josh needs about 1000 ground balls hit to him. He doesnt know how to judge hops. -

Hawk talking about Ted Williams. I am very shocked that he brought up Ted. Next inning it will be Yaz, Catfish, or Al Kaline. -

This pitcher looks like a LOOGY instead of a starter. -
Well thank god they never insulted them, or played loud music. They were human, they just used electricity and threats of death against their families. Maybe we can get some of the protesters to hit Libya now.

So much for Jose to the bullpen.

Uribe provides nothing to this team anymore. He waves a nice ole at the ball thats reachable, but of course getting off his feet a bit to stop it would require effort. Swinging for the fence like a mope, and playing crappy defense is the hallmark of his play. If he is on this team, then everything Ozzie said about playing the game the right way or you dont play for me was more crap than we think. -
Buehrle: Sox aren't going into rebuilding mode
southsideirish71 replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As long as Uribe is gone next year, retool however you want. Watching him tonight dog a few of the ground balls, then give the Ole wave to it was a bit sickening. Watching this guy go up to the plate with no clue. I could give 2 s***s what he did before, its time to let him go before he comes into ST next year where he needs someone to tell him what his feet look like. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) Bull. He said it himself. He lost velocity and wasn't in shape because of the Series and his lack of preparation for the season. If Buehrle loses 2-3 miles on his fastball and cutter, everything looks the same and he isn't who he is. He's 2006 Buehrle, second half. Bull back. His velocity was down from ST and on. So why did his velocity drop not affect the ERA's of April, May and June. April ERA 2.57 May ERA 3.18 June ERA 3.89 The boom. July ERA 11.48 His command was the issue. When Buerhle is on, he can throw the ball in and out. The velocity helps with the deception. But the reason that he got crushed was the fact that he was leaving the ball up over the middle of the plate. Major league hitters will crush an 85 mph fastball middle in, and an 89 mph fastball middle in. The minute the ball goes up, you are meat. Thats what happened to Mark. You want 2006 2nd half Buerhle. Tell him to leave his 87-89 mph fastball up about thigh high over the middle of the plate. Thats when you will see his ERA take a jump.
