QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) Anyone have any updates on the game? 1-0 bad guys
-
I wonder if Verlander is only throwing 91 now due to the impact of the stressful world series on his arm. I figure Bonderman is throwing meatballs as well, and Rodgers should be ready to retire.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) Don't you remember? That post season run in '05 has taken its toll. Apparently it takes several years to recover from something like that. I am expecting the entire Tiger staff to have all of their arms fall off this year then.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) We usually give a ton of runs in Spring Training no matter what year it is Our minor league pitchers give up a ton of runs, however I dont remember our starters just getting torched time and time again.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) Ah, ok. Well, that's certainly no surprise. Giving up runs is what we do in AZ. Lots of runs Well last year, and this year.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) Now the Sox are looking at Lieber and Rowand?? Rogers seems to think so..... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Rogers is going with the throw enough crap at the wall, some of it might stick theory of covering the sox this ST. This is just plain f***ing stupid to even throw this out as crazy talk.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) I heard Greg Walker this morning say that Iguchi had gotten into some "bad habits" batting second, like not trying to pull the ball often enough. This is from our hitting instructor. Southside, I thought of you immediately. Well lets see, when pitchers challenge the zone and try to pitch in we rock them into the stone age. When teams pitch low and away and bounce the breakin pitch in the dirt, we barely scratch 2 hits together in 6 innings. If we were a line drive, hit to all fields approach that he mouths in the papers and all we would be able to solve crappy pitchers spotting low and away. Pull only, try and go for the fences approaches are what get shut down left and right by low and away.
-
Every team that faces the sox should call up whatever soft tossing lefty they have in the mix, tell the kid to spot the ball low and away and watch the magic happen.
-
Nice to see a soft tossing lefty spotting the ball low and away is dominating our lineup. We are in midseason form once again.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) Out of Floyd, Haeger, Masset, Gio, Danks, he is the best so far this spring. I know Charlie would be successful on the team, but Danks is trying to prove he belongs with the big club. So far this spring Haeger, Danks and Gio impress me the most of the starting kids. I think out of the bunch, these will be the kids that will be here for the long run. Broadway needs some seasoning the minors, and he needs to learn that 2 seamer in and out. Gio needs more seasoning to get his control in order. His stuff is there, but he needs more polish. Haeger is ready and Danks seems ready. Danks has something that Buerhle had, and it seemed that Bmac had as as starter. Stones. The ability to use your talent within the strike zone. I have seen how many prospects come up, looking great and then the minute they get on the mound, they pucker up and walk the world and get into hitters counts. Haeger and Danks so far have shown that they will attack. Floyd probably could use more time in the minors working on his control. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) Yah. Look at Boone. Was awesome in ST, came up and got absolutely ROCKED. Was terrible at first. NUmbers in Spring Training don't matter. They might use them to help in their evaluation, but they have nothing to do with how a player will perform when the season starts. ESPECIALLY in Arizona. Boone last year was getting a lot of his action against the minor leaguers, and not a lot of apperances against the major leaguers in ST. He came late to the major league ST, because he was pitching in the minors camp and was discovered by pitching against Thome and a few others in some scrimages. My point is, that you need to get your guys innings, and the guys you think are ready to take a bigger jump, you pitch in away games in a starting position. This way you get to see them against major leaguers, and with away games you get a propensity of more of the regulars in the lineup for the opposition. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) Well if we are choosing the 5th starter by stats, Danks is your guy. Well hopefully we can get Danks a start or 2 to see how he does against the regulars at the first part of the game. Maybe some away games, when they are inclined to play more of their regulars. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) Masset seems like one of those guys who looks great when he's just throwing to the catcher on the side. However, as his numbers in the minors show, he struggles to actually get hitters out. I hope KW didn't make a mistake by putting so much stake into winter league numbers. Considering the way Danks looks, I am not that broken up that Masset doesnt look like a stud in the pen yet. He has a few weeks to get on track. Danks however is showing the kids what you are supposed to do. Attack the strikezone with your stuff, and not get into constant hittter counts. I dont care how hard you throw, if you get into hitter counts all the time you are going to get rocked. Throw strikes, attack the hitters with your best and let the cards unfold. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 05:06 PM) And it's a valid concern. Thats funny you mention the 2nd half, as last night as work, I was looking at the Sox schedule, and thinking, "Well, I hope we rack up some wins in late June and early July, because we are going to need them down the stretch.." The 2nd half struggles have become a major issue, and one I hope we don't see this year. We couldn't afford to do it last season, and we certainly won't be able to do it this season. I still think that our inability to hit better situationally cost us more than the 5th starter did in 04. I still have nightmares of Valentin and Carlos Lee falling over trying to hit a home run late in the game in August against the Twins. I still remember the quote with KW with Carlos. Let the 3 thumpers go for the dong. The rest of the team should be working the count, trying to hit line drives and doing the little things to get the runner in. My biggest fear this year, is that when the clock strikes August we start getting shut down by crap pitchers with a 7 ERA again spotting the ball low and away. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) It can be hard at times not to worry about some of the results that we see in ST, but this team not hitting is the last thing I am worried about when the season starts. I just really don't have much of a concern about the lineup. Gooch-Thome-Kong-Dye-Crede are all going to hit this season. I was happy to see Anderson have a good day(Farmer said the DP ball he hit into was harder hit than the HR ball) and seeing Danks and Gio put up solid innings made it a good day. The hits will come. I worry about situational hitting, because that is something we havent been too good with in a while. We can score when we hit home runs, and we will hit a lot. But the difference in this team making the playoffs, and watching it is how we handling getting the runners in when we need a hit to the right side, a single up the middle or a sac fly. In the 2nd half of every year, we struggle because we press and try to hit home runs to score. This is when nonames and never-were's 4 hit our team through 5. Then we hear about how X pitcher had a great game, and how no one in the majors could hit them if they could. The next week X pitcher gets rocked for 8 runs and barely gets out of the first. We have a very powerful lineup that should just dominate this league. We have a propensity as a lot of home run hiting teams get, to overly rely on it. And then to try and hit one when the game is on the line. Sometimes a liner that barely makes its over the infield is more important than the solo home run earlier in the game that was hit on the Dan Ryan. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Game over. Sox fall to 2-9. On the postgame, Farmer and Singleton are raving about Danks and his breaking ball. And trying to figure out why we only had 5 hits over 9 with the pitching they tossed out there today. We pretty much had the primo lineup today. -

The offense has looked like poop on a stick at times this spring. We have scored 2 runs, one on a solo dong. Where is this going to right crap I hear out of our hitting coach. I hear it, and then I see everyone pulling the f***ing ball. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) There's no way Cotts is healthy. Actually maybe this is Cotts. In 2005 he had pinpoint control, and kept the ball down and on the corners. However with Cotts he has always been around the strikezone and not necessarily in it. In the majors, you get behind with 2 pitches and you get rocked. I think 05 was the abnormality, and the rest is Cotts. If he can keep the ball down and throw with control he will be fine.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) You know why I'm hesitant about Danks? Not only because he may not be ready, but let's remember who his agent is. Sending him up, then down, wastes valuable service time. That's atleast how I see it. We have to deal with the devil at some point. I understand that Danks starts the arbitration clock and all, but if having him out there is a better option than Floyd then I saw go for it. I would rather see what we have now, then wait 2 years and then have a few starters down and then have to rely on him if he isnt what he is supposed to be. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) I think the worst case for Danks is that if he's rushed he could wind up turning into Gavin Floyd. And then there are guys like Mark Buerhle who came up and did ok also. Some guys have the stones and the talent, and others have talent and no stones. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) If Boone Logan wasn't here and acting like Boone Logan last year, I might be tempted to call Danks this year's ST Boone Logan. Difference is before Boone pitched in ST, no one ever heard of him and his entire story was a shock. Danks on the other hand is a good prospect and is expected to be a major league top of the rotation guy. I agree with Flash, put him in against a good hitting team as a starter and see how he handles it. -

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Bases loaded, none out..and 1 run... Lollerskaters, this IS the White Sox team I know and love Mr Anderson had two huge cuts, trying to hit a f***ing home run when all we need is a single. I guess Anderson is working on the post-ASB form. -
