  1. One of the things I love about the decision for my family not only to come to this country, but to pick Chicago is the blue collar mentality. We can take in the bad boys, the former malcontents and embrace them because of their competitiveness. Guys like Jenks(who gets a bad name for partying at an age when most of us did the same thing), Everett, and AJ...guys like Rodman. I remember some people worried about AJ in the off season because of his checkered past, and my analogy then was to Rodman. A guy you hated to play against, but would love on your team. Jenks is blessed with a great arm, but great breaking pitches and so far nerves of steel. Hopefully Bobby has a long Whitesox career ahead of him.
  2. They faced Felix in ST. He was hitting 98 on the gun in that game. So while it was a while ago, they did face him. And they hit him a bit. Facing a good pitcher like this is a blessing in disguise. It forces them to keep short compact swings, instead of when we face a guy who barely hits 90 and they feel they can jack him. All I have to say is another great pitcher from Venezuela? We better have like 10 scouts that are just assigned to that country alone. They are turning out stud pitchers at a good clip down there. Big pitchers park should play right in the sox game plan this weekend. It should be a good series.
  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) There are other applications that this will work on (invision). But mySQL is the most popular, and with the amount of traffic that this site generates, it would take a full version of something a lot more powerful then we have, which is not cheap, depending on which way we go. The server is ran on unix, there's no way in hell that I'm going windows. Look at the bright side of windows. Think about how fresh the site will be when you reboot it every few days for the 50 or so security patches you need to keep Soxtalk from being coming PWNDTalk
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Isn't that why we got Blum? Insurance for Crede because his back was acting up? Blum was picked up to rest Kong and Crede while giving us another switch hitting bat off the bench. They didnt invision him starting. If they are going to not make a move here, they should call up Gload have Gload play 1st, DH Kong, have Blum play 3rd and have Everett play LF until Monday.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Even if he's not... which is really stretching it, considering your basing this on 270 ABs or so -- what's wrong with what he'd bring? If used against lefties alone, he's better than anything we have. He's putting up a .234/.336/.394 line against lefties this year. That's pretty much the floor of the production you're going to get from him, and it's still better than anything else we'd have. In the gamethreads, I see you b**** about this team not having enough guys who get on base. A .330 OBP would rank what, third on our team right now? Fourth? If Crede is gone for the season, I don't see why they don't make this move. His OBP looks pretty good. But 42% strikeout rate is amazing. Thats beyond what Valentin did last year. If we platooned him and Blum it wouldnt hurt. Plus he has post season experience. If Crede is out for a long time, I would like to see this or Sean Burroughs(burroughs might not have cleared waivers)
  6. QUOTE(wdson01 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) for everyone who didnt see coops pregame interview today he said if he to pick a game one starter right now itd probally be freddy by a slim margin.. who would you guys put out there in game one? Depends on who we play and how hot they are in a month. Its a bit early to be setting up the rotations for the playoffs. Lets get there first, then get home field advantage. Then we can let Ozzie figure it out.
  7. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Blum for everyday 3B? I know he isn't the long term answer, but he could probably play just as well as Crede now. Interesting prospect. Blum has been hitting a bit lately. Is a switch hitter. And the glove is pretty good.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Sorry - did you even know what I meant about the server load? Anything less then 3.00 is meaning the server is functioning well. It's usally anywhere between 0.50 and 0.75 when we have 250 people on here. It's the database that's the problem, pure and simple. I can probably shut the site down this weekend and rebuild the database, that might help some. Actually yes I do understand server load in nix or nix like OSs. Hence my comments earlier. The comments about mysql being free were in green for a reason.
  9. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) The load on the server is 0.50 during the spikes. The processor(S) and the bandwidth is fine. MySQL is a piece of crap. That's all. But its Free!!!! So it must be good. Well at the rate that some of these database vendors are pricing their products. I can stand with a few "too many connection" messages.
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) When you people hit refresh 15 bazillion times to find out what happens in a game thread, you get too many connections. Trust me, the server's fine. Waaaay fine. It's the database and the response time from it. I have two highly hit servers on the net for work that have the same issue. They have plenty I mean plenty of everything. Its the refresh issue and connections getting hung up. You can throw lots of hardware at it, for a spike that happens during a game once in a great while or when the sox lose a few and everyone is cranky.
  11. max_connections=eleventy billion Web sites like this that use Mysql have a hard time hanging up connections. You could have some serious hardware and still have problems during a spike. Its hard for them to plan the sites server size based on a few times a year. Some maintenance might clean some of it up, but unless they have been seeing issues for a while it could be just isolated to all of the traffic lately due to the sox slumping and the close games.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) Ask Dustin Hermanson, as he is experiencing just that phenom this year. Time for mysql maintenance.
  13. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) f***in umps might have cost Garland a Cy Young award. Thanks you tools. More like Santana outdueling Freddy and shutting us down with big K numbers and having a high win count already tanked him.
  14. Well Bobby came on in a pressure situation in a big game and took the hump and K'd 2. Nice job Bobby. That was awsome.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) How about Flounder? BEAST
  16. call a strike ump. I know its fast and all. But dont worry, thats why you wear the armor. One out.
  17. Here it is, 100mph coming your way. Lets see if you can hit it. 1 freaking hundred
  18. In this inning we better see someone of large stature who can throw 100mph for the sox
  19. f*** it I give up, Timo is clutch. I dont like him starting. But he can pinch hit anytime at the end of the game.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Joe Crede's "foul" ball in Baltimore was the worst call I have ever seen. Remember when Thomas got into an fight with Cooper in the 9th in Detroit. Thomas and Ordonez struck out on called neck high fastballs.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Top of the 10th.. score some runs guys. BLUM HITS A SECOND TO LEADOFF THE 10TH. Now can we for the love of god get this guy in. Pinch hit for popup joe. Can we activate baines.
