  1. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) So you go replace your starting infield on teh best team in the AL? THere is a reason you guys aren't GMs. Dont replace them. But hope to god that our pitchers completely and utterly shut down the opposition. Because if you dont mind a few hits by the 5th inning and scoring only on the dong, then you have this offense. We win games when we are at a 2-1, 3-2. If our pitching falters at all, do you think this team can come back and score a 3 or 4 spot.
  2. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) Exactly. we need them to start playing better, not try to go find replacements for them. Its the final week of August. At what point do you think that they will get better. This is the point in the season where the hitters should be hitting their stride, not finding their swings. That is what the first month or so of the season is there for.
  3. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) Yes, I do. And I still think Varitek is an overpaid loud mouth on a team that's going nowhere this year. So he can shove it. So what is wrong with what he said.
  4. 6-0 Well we played like crap yesterday, and now we are doing the same today. 6 runs might as well be a thousand.
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) Not to mention the intimidation. The White Sox are getting to be a pretty comfortable oppenent for opposing pitchers. Adding Griffey would make everyone better. Too bad it isn't going to happen. It would have been perfect. Remember when everyone got bent out of shape when Varitek said that our offense doesnt scare anyone, that our lineup has a bunch of guys that are easily pitched to.
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) KW has about 2 days to save this offense. We have our big splash. Geoff Blum. Do you think that KW would of waited till this point to fix this? This is what we will get shut down in the playoffs with. This is our team.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) Who on this thread honesty thinks the White Sox as they are constructed right now are serious WS contenders? If we had a medicore offense, sure. But with guys hitting below 200 for a month or so. No.
  8. Why isnt gload up. I mean he is tearing up AAA. He hit well for us last year. This year he has barely gotten a chance. Yet he is a line drive hitter the kind we could use. Yet we have a team that gets 1 to 3 hit by every team through 5 innings. We may scratch out 5 or 6 hits, but scoring runs is only happening if someone hits a dong.
  9. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) What is wrong with Buehrle? Josh this is a good hitting team we are facing. Lets not just discount their offense.
  10. How much did Matt Lawton cost? How much will Todd Walker cost? There are options that dont K silly, or get no hit for large parts of the game. If our pitching doesnt pitch their asses off, we have a problem. KW needs to get a bat, he doesnt need to get KGJ. He needs to find a bat that is a higher average, good obp, that doesnt K at the clip our team does. Medicore pitching shuts this team down too easily. If we had a medicore hitting team, this team is a world series favorite.
  11. Another pitcher no hitting this aenmic lineup. Now Hawk used the virus line about how bad hitting is contagious, I have a flashback from the guy giving the speeches in the Knights clubhouse in the Natural.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) But..but..but....where would he play on Cleveland? They have Belliard at 2nd base already, and a terrific DH in Hafner. Oh, that's right.....it's called stacking your roster. It would make sense for a team to get a bat like Todd Walkers. He would boost our bench and give us a great bat off the bench late in a game. Plus protection if any injuries happen to our MVP.
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Has there been some speculation the Cubs would move Todd Walker to the White Sox, or was it strictly the Cleveland rumor? Walker can hit, no doubt about that. Just the dreams of some fans on a board right now. The only things so far is a comment by Todd Walker that he expects to be traded that I heard over the weekend, and the Cleveland rumor.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) per stats inc Hitting With a short, quick stroke, Walker is an excellent contact hitter with line-drive power. He uses the whole field and was able to take good advantage of Fenway's left-field wall. On the other hand, he is capable of pulling the ball, and also takes good advantage of the hole on the right side when a runner is on first. He remains tough with two strikes. Walker had made progress against lefties in recent years but went backwards last year, and sometimes was rested when a southpaw was on the mound. His career on-base percentage against lefties is just .289, a serious liability for someone who hits near the top of the order. Baserunning & Defense Some were pleasantly surprised with Walker's defense last year, but that probably had more to do with his reputation than anything. A bad-glove rep has followed him ever since he lost his job in Minnesota in 2000. He is below average at the keystone, but he's hardly a disaster. He lacks range and fluidity, and he sometimes hurries his throws, but he turns the double play well enough. Walker has pretty good speed but took fewer chances on the bases last year with Boston's big bats coming up behind him. A left handed line drive hitter who doesnt K is something we need on this team. We have plenty of guys who can jack a homer, but we are missing guys who can get that 2 strike hit with regularity. Walker can hit, and who would you like to have coming off the bench in the playoffs, Walker or Timo.
  15. Mike "Thriller" Jackson, I am sure he was the nicest man in the world, but when he played for the sox his time was over. Nothing better than watching him waltz in from the bullpen and you had that sick feeling of a 3 run dong is about to happen. You watch, helpless and the inherited runners were going to score. He warms up, throwing that 86mph fastball and his featured meatball(slider). He goes 2-0 and here comes the 86mph fastball. Whammo. Then watching this guy trot out night after night getting destroyed because he had to hit some record while we were still in a divisional race. The day he was released was a great day. He would come into games that we were up by 5 or 6 runs and give up the farm so it was either a loss or a close game.
  16. Walker wouldnt be bad as a lefty DH, if he could play 3rd he would be nice. The guy just hits. Better us getting him than the Injuns.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) Bruce Levine is about as accurate as.....forget it LOL A quote that forever describes the one the only BRUUUUUUCE Levine.
  18. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) Every single one of our starters has a lower ERA and a better record than their Cleveland counterpart. Good pitching can beat good hitting, but our offense still needs to score runs. If we fail in the offseason its not going to be because of our pitching and defense, it will be because some pitcher shut this offense down. Kenny hopefully realizes this and gets a bat.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) He isnt saying anything he hasnt already said before. bruce is pretty convinced that Griffey is the only one that the Sox are pursuing. They should of left seattle with Ibanez. He is a hell of a lot more attainable than Griffey and hits lefties and righties similiar. He has more of a line drive swing and can fill a few positions in the lineup(OF and 1b). I would be amazed if the KGJ thing would happen, I admire KW for going for it, but hopefully he has a backup plan. Our offense has struggled for a month now. Its a bit concerning before we go to battle in the playoffs that our offense can be shut down so bad. Bowden just ripped the Nats for not being able to score. However that team has outscored the Whitesox over the month of August by over 25 runs. We can thank a great pitching staff for keeping us in this and semi-afloat. Hopefully they can step it up in the playoffs.
  20. The funny thing is the Nats just had their GM hold a close door meeting and he ripped the team on how they couldnt hit and all. Our pitching has been stellar, because their numbers are better than ours. they have scored more runs by about 28 more runs than we have. How our pitching is valued. If it wasnt for our stellar pitching, what a disaster this could be.
  21. These guys have got to pick up the pace in September and going into October. Stranding runners like we have on 2nd and 3rd with less than 2 outs will kill us. When we get an opportunity we have to really capitalize on it. Pods will help us have more guys on base and all, but the bottom of our lineup needs to get this going a bit more. Our pitching has been stellar holding the opposition to a .245BA, but our batters cannot hit .232 as a team or we will be one and done. Everyone keeps saying, Oh dont worry about so and so. He is our 7th through 9th hitter. They arent supposed to do anything anyways. Our lower guys have got to perform better than August or we are sunk. We cannot have guys hitting blow .200 for terms of a month or more. Hopefully the DL time will help Joe get whatever he is going again. After a .103BA for the month his .240 would look like a godsend. Uribe is batting now .203 for the month of August. I understand he is a free swinger and all but he has to really work on his hitting selection. His defense is great and all, but having two or 3 guys hitting at such a bad clip is murder to any rallys. Rowand is batting .198 for the month. He is a fastball hitter who has been fouling offf a lot of good fastballs. Then he is meat after 2 strikes. He needs to put those balls in play more. Hit them to left and right center. Hopefully these guys start to warm up a bit in September, because its not like they can just flip a switch in the playoffs and just turn on offense.
  22. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) It's nearing September. They have a big cushion. They are a team built on pitching. Arms are dead right now and need rest, Adkins, whether s***ty or not, will provide some pitchers rest. The logic is simple: protect what makes the team win. It's not as if Anderson was hitting .600. He had one good game on a rookie pitcher. I support the move. We could put Crede who isnt going to play anytime soon on the DL and still keep a bat up here. The arms are dead is great an all, but the playoff roster should be thought of in a logical way. If Jon Adkins is on the playoff roster a lot of people would be livid.
  23. Can we demote Adkins on Wednesday and bring a bat up that day if we dont make a trade. The idea of having Jon Adkins being in the playoffs with his stellar ERA and ability to give up runs at a crazy pace makes me ill.
  24. They are talking about Slogans and Nicknames for the team "These guys cant hit" after our these guys can play
  25. Can we release Adkins. He comes into every game and gets destroyed. He cant get major leaguers out.
