  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Besides the fact that D.Lee is one whole year older, everything else is in his favor. Not even 6 months older.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Teahen is overpaid for his job...but being able to be a backup IF and backup OF in a pinch is really useful for that 4th guy off the bench. It makes no sense to dump Teahen if we have to send salary along with him. Over the past three seasons, Teahen has been worse than replacement level. Except Teahen doesn't make the league minimum, he's being paid $10M over the next two seasons. It makes complete sense to dump him for any salary relief when his production can be replaced quite easily.
  3. It's the 23rd pick, and the Rays would get that one since Soriano has a higher Elias ranking. Nats would get our 2nd round pick.
  4. We would lose another pick if we signed Soriano
  5. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) Carlos Pena. Seriously. I think last year was an outlier for him. I would easily go 2 years on Pena before Konerko. Pena's Line Drive rate, percent of pitches swung at outside the zone: 08: 18.0%, 20.8% 09: 16.8%, 23.5% 10: 14.5%, 26.6% He's not hitting the ball as hard anymore, and plate discipline is getting worse. Troublesome trend, that. I'd avoid, especially after we've secured left-handed power bat in Dunn.
  6. Lee. -Less $ commitment -Better offensive player in recent history (not just last year, 3-4 year range) -Better defensive player -Two draft picks when Konerko signs elsewhere -At least one, possibly two draft picks if we get Lee on a 1-year deal to rebuild his value and he does in fact rebound

  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) Might have a new favorite beer: Newcastle Brown Ale. Newcastle was what really opened my eyes and piqued my curiosity to learn more about good beers. It didn't make my top 10 list, but will always be memorable to me
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) If the rumors have any bit of truth to them, then I'm happy that it appears we have some money to spend. Or KW has been in talks which makes him confident he can move existing salary

    2010 Fall TV Thread

Yeah, I loved the pilot. But it had no dialogue. Just a bit between the cop and black dude explaining the zombie apocalypse.

    2010 Fall TV Thread

I'm with Sqwert on Walking Dead. The dialogue in every episode (not just those vatos) has been pure cheese. That's why I'm against this second 12-episode season. I wish they had just kept it to this 6-episode season. That would mean more action, less dialogue, more resolution.
  12. What happened to Heads? He usually updates this stuff
  13. I would not give Putz $15M guaranteed. He's 34 and hit the DL 4 times in the past 3 years. If we didn't already have three power arms in the pen, it might be a different story. But given current circumstances, I'll take the draft pick.

    Danks

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) 1.2 walks per 9 innings. 1 extra walk a start. So you are saying if Danks cuts 1 walk a start he can be an ace. That's fine. I personally don't think thats a crazy thing to accomplish. It is a crazy thing to accomplish. You're thinking about it too simplistically. Because of the walk rate Danks is already at, one less walk per start would mean he would need to cut his yearly BB total nearly in half. That's no easy feat.

    Danks

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) The first guy I thought of when I thought who is an ace was Roy Halladay. His career k rate is 6.7 per 9. Danks is 7.0. Yeah, now compare their walk rates.

    Danks

Danks isn't a strikeout pitcher. He pitches to contact more than the guys that come up when you think of aces. I don't think he'll jump into that elite level unless he can cut his walk rate down (which is already better than average as is). But he is still a very valuable starter.

    Danks

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) The main thing holding Danks back from being a legit ace is his efficiency IMO. He's better about it than he was when he first came to the majors, but still you look at his pitch count, it's around 80 and it's still the 4th inning. He'll usually make it to 6 innings but not as often past that as you'd like, and he leaves himself in a position where he needs the bullpen to hold it for him, or just hope the offense had built enough of a lead that it's never given up in the last 3 innings. If he was more in control of his own fate at the end of games more we'd be talking about one of the best LHP in the game. Last season, Danks averaged 6.7 innings per start, which placed him 6th best out of 63 qualified pitchers in the AL. The only AL pitchers more "efficient" were Lee, King Felix, Sabathia, Pavano, and Verlander. It hasn't been an issue for Danks the past two seasons really. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/...er_pitching::30
  18. Nice gamble for a 6th pick overall talent
  19. If I were GM, I would not trade any of them.
  20. What kind of radiation levels are emitted from the full-body scanners? The only issue I have with them is that repeated exposure might be dangerous. I know when I get an x-ray at the dentist, the hygienist throws a lead vest on me and runs out of the room.
