Astros are up for sale. Anyone got an extra half-billion dollars lying around

Brian looks like you were right about CT just being a gulag challenge. Shame. I hope the blue team loses next week. It would be great to see CT rip off Johnny's head.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) I'm really surprised by the number of beer snobs here. I don't mean snob in a bad sense, but I only know a couple of people like that in real life. I know what you mean. I used to be like you, did not like beer at all, only ordered Bud Light or whatever at the bar. When I moved, the friends I made happened to be beer snobs. You just need to taste a beer that actually has flavor, and you might be converted.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) Manny drove in as many runs as Donny Lucy for the White Sox in 2010. Lucy batted 15 times and was basically released. Just because Vlad came back doesn't mean Manny will. Because Manny Ramirez and Donny Lucy don't have different histories or anything

I think much of the appeal in being a beer drinker is always being able to try something new. I'm going to peruse all of the lists to find beers I haven't tasted yet. One of my favorite beers I discovered only through the recommendation of a poster here, G&T

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Thats not true. In arbit you can't more than a 20% paycut. This rule is only applicable to players in their arb years (guys between 3-6 years service time plus the super 2s).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) For a 39 year old former steroid abuser who missed about 1/3 of last season with injuries and can't play the field any more? Manny was only worth about $6 million last year according to fangraphs. You might call that a bargain, but it's certainly not a ridiculous one. He missed closer to half of last season, only appeared in 90 games. Also, having to play the field with his poor defense in the NL cost him more runs than he would have lost switching from playing the field to full-time DH. If he stays healthy, he would provide nice surplus value at DH. And you'd have to think not playing corner outfield would assist in keeping him off the DL
-
Throwing Sale directly into the rotation would be a mistake. He hasn't started a single game at any level of professional ball. You either keep him in the bullpen for 2011, or have the patience to develop him for a year as a starter in the minors so he is ready to be a potentially much more effective and valuable starter in 2012.

We are desperate for offense. Manny led the team in OBP and pitches seen per PA. And that's coming off injury. If the training staff thinks they can keep him healthy, this would be a no-brainer

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) JR needs to take advantage of that system like everyone else does. And I do not in any way think the Sox try to stick to the slotting system because they feel burned by Borchard as I've seen put forth by some fans. I think it's all about JR trying to be the one guy who is in the right when everyone else is in the wrong, and if that's the case it's noble. But I don't like it. JR is good buddies with Selig, they have a mutual respect for each other. We're never going to ignore Selig's slotting system with JR at the helm. From 2008-2010, no team spent less than the White Sox on draft bonuses

I can't believe you went to a Blockbuster

Jesus. Soxtalk should coordinate some suicide prevention plan in case the team actually attempts a significant uniform change in the future.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 14, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) I'm just going to throw this out there for the lulz - Edwin Jackson. If he pitches like he did in August, I might actually be right. If he pitches like he did in August, he will win the Cy Young

Saw 'Four Lions' last night. It's a very dark comedy about four idiotic British Muslim extremists trying to figure out and execute their jihad. I highly recommend it if you have an indie movie theater by you because it was lol funny throughout and totally original

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2010 -> 03:46 AM) Anyone heard anything about Black Swan, the new Natalie Portman movie? It stole the show at a recent film festival in my city. A couple of my friends had tickets and were blown away. It is killing on IMDb right now too. I became a much bigger Aronofsky fan after The Wrestler (my personal favorite of '08). So I am very much looking forward to it

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) They all have AJ going to the Marlins. Have I just not been following this stuff? I haven't heard him attached to Florida. Florida is one location AJ mentioned in interview he would consider going to. Coupled with the fact he lives in Orlando, it makes sense.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) Wow, I actually didn't know that. And that does lend credence to the idea that his mechanics were problematic in the first place, in the chicken and egg discussion. According to Chris O'Leary (who has been noticeably accurate in predicting injury issues with pitchers), Peavy's mechanics have always been such to make him susceptible to elbow/shoulder injury Jake Peavy Pitching Mechanics Analysis

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) The bolded really doesn't make much sense, he's only had one pitching-related injury. Peavy has had one pitching-related injury with the White Sox, but several more with the Padres. 2004: Missed 43 days due to elbow strain 2005: Missed 11 days due to shoulder soreness 2006: Missed 8 days due to shoulder tendinitis 2008: Missed 28 days due to elbow strain
