QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Oh, I didn't mean to imply that at all here. I just meant the news I heard this morning, and articles I've read and even the people interviewed in that town, seemed more pissed that they were misinformed about the deaths rather than the deaths themselves. I can't imagine how hopeless those people must feel. There is nothing they can do about any of it. What do they think is gonna happen to the Gov.? Nothing. The media? Nothing. Legal action? Against who? and what for? and most importantly, noting they can do to bring their loved ones back. I bet I'd be pretty frickin' irrational and pissed right about now.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:25 AM) When the f*** did Blockbuster begin charging $8.00 for video game rentals? I haven't rented a video game from there in several months, so obviously it occured sometime during this transition period. It's unbelievable. I'm surprised never to have heard any public outrage concerning this. Sounds like Blockbuster trying to screw the consumers again. There I am waiting in a 20 minute line with Shadow of the Colossus in my hand, when I'm shocked to notice a $7.99 rental fee on the checkout monitor. The dufus behind the counter reacted like I was crazy when I asked him, "I thought video game rentals were $5.00?" Since I only came with five I couldn't even rent the game. They just lost my business. The biggest rip off is they charge like $5.00 per movie, no matter how old the movie is.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) Yeah, right! They have to stay for at least the funerals. Duh! Yeah, you're right, but first they have to have to make sure they aren't blamed for all the misinformation.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) Well by all accounts I'm reading, it sounds like the coal company CEO is to blame big time here. He knew 20 minutes after it was said they were alive that they weren't, but kept quiet for almost 3 hours because "he wanted to be sure they were dead". PLEASE!! 3 hours?? That's pathetic, this whole thing is a total disaster....which is sad, because it takes the spotlight off what we should be talking about, which is the joke that is mining safety and how much it needs to improve. Yep. One woman said he very clearly and emphatically told the families they were alive. How the eff did he tell the families that, when clealry he was unsure? Hopefully the media circus will get the hell otta there now and let those poor families grieve in peace.

I was watching last night just as the 'news' broke that 12 were alive. What seemed kinda strange was that they were reporting that the miners would be brought to the church to meet with relatives some time after they were pulled from the mine. Wouldn't they have been rushed to the hospital instead? They couldn't possibly be in THAT good a shape? In hindsight this too seems like more wild, bulls*** speculation. Apparently, the media was reporting anything and everything they heard as facts.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 01:38 AM) This is my guess as well. I suppose the officer interviewed was more willing to believe an outlandish scenario rather than figure out perhaps the old-man forgot he dialed 911. How the hell can you even devise a scenario in which the cat somehow dislodged the phone from it's receiver, dialed 911, then HUNG UP. Attempt to teach the cat anything remotely close to this and it will only lick it's ass and piss on the telephone. Anyone recall the story of the woman from Europe receiving the first facial transplant? The reason behind her injury was due to her dog mauling her face. The women, oddly enough, received the injuries while unconscious due to a suicide attempt. I haven't heard a follow up on the story, but I'm willing to bet the dog mauling her face was its response to knowing the owner was in trouble. That's a smart dog. Even more surprising is that it took 14 replies before anyone on this thread finally called Bulls***.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) I think a 37,000 average is too high for the south side. World Series or not. I can see 33,000. Which puts us at 2.7 or so. I just see those august days vs the Royals were we still might only draw 25,000 or so. I also see early April days when it is 40 and cold as hell that we might only get 20-25,000. Those sound like good, logical guesses. Unfortunately, anything short of selling out every game will bring up all the attendance talk and critcism of Sox fans again. Supposedly some Sox fans didn't come to the park partly because the team hadn't won in so long. Attendance in 06 will be very interesting to follow,

FYI, at 10:01, the Ticketmaster website said even a single ticket was not available.

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Plus he'd play about 19 games against the Cubs. But I'm sure those good good Cub fans will give him a hero's welcome. Sosa ducked out of playing in Chicago this past season and those games weren't even at Wrigley. I don't see him wanting to play at the urinal ever again.

Whats's sad about trying to save money? Friday weddings are a great idea, Sunday weddings suck. We were married the Friday after Thanksgiving and all our guests thought it was a great idea. Most people have the day off already and there's not much to do on that day and they still had a full weekend to recover from the hangover.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) No scarier than staying in an actual Hostel. There you get to literally fear for your life! Hostels are the way to go when traveling abroad and I will see the film by the way.

It's no secret that I'm not a fan of Juanito, but every time I hear the name Tejada and the words White Sox mentioned in the same sentence, I puke into my mouth. Kenny and Ozzie, PLEASE NO.

Eric Byrnes signs with D-Backs
LosMediasBlancas replied to Pierzynski 12's topic in The Diamond Club
Damn he'd look good in a Sox uni. I know he's not popular on this board, but I've always liked Byrnes. Worth the gamble IMO. -
I assume K Dubs has the same surgeons that a player would. Yes?

QUOTE(HighHeat45 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) Even though i dont believe his story for a second, what if Tejada is running some drug ring and then he gets traded to the cubs and like a week into the season he gets caught and is suspended for what is it now 50 games. I would laugh so hard. Makes me wonder why that SS-HR Derby King-clown is so sougth after. I'd want NO part of Miggy.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) The only reason I still have doubt that Raffy took steroids is that there is really no reason for him to keep up this charade anymore. Whats the point for Raffy? This guy has made his money and had a good career. And if his career was close to being over before this happened, it must be over now. Why does he want to keep pushing it? If knowingly he did it, you would think he would just come clean and say "Man I screwed up, I saw my career slipping away and tried for one more glory season.", and just walk away from the game. The most unfortunate thing for Raffy is the only proof anywhere is in his test that he failed. He has nothing on Tejada except a story. It just seems to not be worth it for Palmeiro to drag it out this long if he really did it. like, say Pete Rose? There are a lot of people, especially kids who look up to ballplayers and just don't want to believe that players juice. For those people, all you have to do is plant a little bit of doubt in their minds and they'll believe you. As long as he keeps saying; "I have no idea how it happened", that's good enough for a lot of people. I fell what you're saying though and I agree with it.
-
Here's something I've always wondered about Raffy's story: I remember reading that Palmeiro said that Tejada gave him a vitamin injection of some kind. Steroids issue aside, WTF is Tejada doing with drugs and syringes?.....and WTF is he doing playing Dr.?

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) ESPN is saying O's officials are saying today that Tejada is unlikely to be traded. Now I know that could mean I'll wake up tomorrow and he'll be traded, but the saga might be over for now. I believe the report that Cubs offered Prior/Hill/Patterson, I just imagine that it wasn't enough for the O's and the Cubs wouldn't give up Zambrano and or Pie instead. I think Tejada will be dealt, it might even still be to the Cubs. The quote I read from the O's said soemthing like: none of the offers on the table were inetresting enough. Sounds to me like they'd still listen to new offers.

I saw a picture of Duque and Jose in the paper this morning and it got me thinking what a difference a year makes. Remember last off season how some of the talk was about how the Yankees gave up on them too soon and how much they liked it here and how they fed off of each other and Ozzie, etc. One year and one WS championship later, they might both be gone. I'm not saying they've been mistreated here, it's just a funny bussines sometimes. Good luck to Los Cubanos.
