what are the best starts in MLB history?
LosMediasBlancas replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 9, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) This begs the question: What constitues a start? Does this "start" extend to the All-Star break? Does it end after a set amount of games, wins, or losses? At what point does a "start" turn into a regular season record? ...I suppose that's more than one question. I'd say all of April. I mean where do you draw the line?..after 35 games, after 65 games, after 85 games....I'm sure that 'record' changes with every few games played. -

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ May 9, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Cowards!?! Good luck, I couldn't figure it out either. -
A bat that plays what position and who goes away?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 9, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Looks like this: Thursday: Garland vs. Chen Friday: Buehrle vs. Lopez Saturday: Garcia vs. Cabrera Sunday: Contreras vs. Bedard Sweeeeeeeeet, I like the Garland/Chen situation.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ May 9, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) But it didn't start that way with the scrub fans, most were going there to boo him. Now with the Sox en fuego and the Cubs El joke-o some of those jeers will to to cheers. Here's hoping they have little to cheer about. Exactly, now that the Scrubs are struggling, watch them fall in love with Sammy (again) and the Orioles overnight, just to be anti-Sox. No big deal, just kind of my guess.

What are the pitching match ups.......as of right now?

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Thanks for proving my point. Like I said, I have no problem with them protesting. But those who protest the U.S. in communist nations look like cowards to me. JMO. I respect your opinion, but I thought you were implying that unless they protest inside the U.S, they're cowards ....and they have done plenty of that. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 9, 2005 -> 06:06 AM) Hernandez and El Duque??? I think you mean Contreras. And yes, compared to the days of Carl Pavano @10 million per season, Kevin Brown @15 million per season, and Jaret Wright @ about 7million per season, the Yanks would be longing for those 2. How many years did they play for the Yankees at the same time? I ask because I keep hearing that Duque has been is kinda 'coaching' Contreras this year.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Perhaps the communist sympathizer part was a bit off base, but let's look at a few facts... (1) They're playing on the Anti-Imperialist Stage, which the Cuban government has used many times to protest against the U.S. (2) The U.S. is currently involved in a controversial war and is being accused by many of being "imperialist." (3) The former incarnation of Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, was very political and very blatantly liberal. So, I'm to believe Chris Cornell when he says that this is only about music? Perhaps, but I'm not naive enough to believe that. Only a fool wouldn't at least be suspicious. FWIW, I have no problem with Audioslave protesting U.S. foreign policy. Acting like men and doing it on American soil would make them look better, though. You obviosuly didn't follow Rage and don't follow AS that closely. Zach and Rage did a TON of protesting at their shows here in America. In fact, if I remember correctly they'd even hang the U.S. flag upside down on their drumkit sometimes. That's the beauty of America, it gives you the freedom to protest. -
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) Don'r forget, a lot of the Red Sox, Cubs, and Yankee attendance numbers are good because so many people from out of town and fans of the opposing teams want to go to their games. So bring 'em on, I could care less. You go to a Cub/Card game at Wrigley and there are thousands of Cards fans at the game. It all helps our bottom line when we fill the park. I agree, the more the merrier, I'm just saying expect a large number of Cub fan, pro Sammy, anti Sox garbage to be there.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) The sad part is allot of Chubs fans bought this weekend series to BOO Sosa. Don't be surprsied at how many will be looooooving Sammy and the O's and cheering against the Sox.

Upcoming Tampa Series with Ventura?
LosMediasBlancas replied to Hanky Panky's topic in Pale Hose Talk
During yesterday's game, DJ was telling Pall that he had "some interesting viewpoints on things". He mentioned a discussion they had in which Pall said he doesn't think pitchers should get Wins or Losses and they should be evaluated purely based on ERA. Was this on the air?...anyone hear this?.....what was Pall's explanation? -
QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 9, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Who do you think will be our representatives on this year's team. Gotta figure Garland, most likely Buerhle too. Based on his play and with the bonus of Pacific Rim voting, I'm thinking Iguchi will give Roberts a run for his money too. Those would be my three. I'm saying no one, maybe Buerhle, it's a popularity contest.........and we ain't popular.

I know it's too early for this, BUT, did anyone happen to read an article in the paper which speculated on players KW might want to pick up later in the year. One of those suggestions was Jose Mesa. So far this year, 11 IP, 11 Save Ops. and 11 saves. I know he can be kinda strange and maybe a distraction, but he makes under 2 mil. (I think) and Pitt. is probably gonna unload him, if they stay out of contention. Can't have too many arms if you're serious about making a push. Thoughts??

I always thought the dark hair looked so unnatural and bad on her, so this is an improvement...but she is no Jessica.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 8, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) And quietly, Damaso Marte has been our second best reliever out of the bullpen this year (or, perhaps tied with Politte). I believe our top two relievers have emerged... Damaso makes me more nervous than anyone else in our pen. -

Today was closer than it should have been. Two bonehead errors by Uribe and Ozzie's decision to yank Hermy made it waaaaay more exciting than it should have been.....but I'll take wins however they come. In our excitement to face the Os', let's not get cocky and complacent and overlook Tampa Bay. We need to shoot for another sweep, even taking 2 of 3 from them would be kinda dissapointing, you gotta get fat of the bad teams. Go Sox -

QUOTE(Fotop @ May 7, 2005 -> 05:18 AM) Two national anthems. DOH. -
I can't believe this is even a discussion, NO way the Cubs would trade Lee for Shingo. I wouldn't take LaToya on this team if he came for free. NO THX.
-
I agree that it's a concern. I remember Ozzie saying that he expected all of his starters to go deeper into games than before. Ozzie needs to worry less about getting his starting pitchers wins and think more long term about what is best for the team. Duque's next start will be interesting, I don't see throwing 100+ pitches in 3 consecutive starts......make that 4.

gave up 2 in the 9th, Cubs down 3-2 now, I think.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ May 6, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Banned Nope, it's a scare tactic. Technically, it's not illegal to visit Cuba, it is illegal to SPEND U.S. DOLLARS there. Even on the rare ocassion when Americans are caught visiting, the gov. very rarely does anything about it. You get off with a slap on the wrist. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 6, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) That is one reason I wish I could go to Cuba. 18 days till Out of Exile comes out...I'm f***in pumped! Audioslave is kick ass. You can go there pretty easily, just fly there from Mexico. The Cubans won't stamp your passport, if you ask them no to. When you get back to the states, there will be no proof you were ever there. My buddies say they have amazing beaches and a great nightlife. I plan to go next year.
