  1. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) That's the way to go, Steff. Keep the ball in your court. Because they may not assign you any more projects and when you finish the one's you are on, they may just let you go. The key is to keep the ball in your court. Good luck. PS. Just remember, if for some reason a company had to lay you off or fire you, you usually don't get much notice. There is no more loyalty in business. Saying that, do what YOU are comfortable with. So true. Business decisions are just that, never personal. Many times a person is forced to let people go, no matter how much they might value or like the employee. Look out for #1 and cover your ass Steff. Good luck.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) That's a typical remark. I was waiting for that. I know a married couple who are 1st cousins. Not sure how they were married, but I do know that they had to write the Vatican and go through all kinds of red tape in order to be married in a Catholic church.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) In doing that they would put themselves in a very bad spot. I understand whay you're saying, but in this instance I have the upper hand with projects in progress. I'm sure you know the situation well and I'm not saying this will happen to you. I've seen people who thought the same thing and ended up getting bounced. Sometimes employers WILL cut off their nose to spite their face. A lot of times, it has to do with $$. Why pay 2 people for that 3 or 4 week period when you can pay 1.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) How much/little can I drink * The numbers reflect the BAC for a 160 lbs. lean man, per 8pm -9pm - 2 drinks =3.8/175=.0217 = .0434 9pm -11pm - 2 drinks =.0434 + .0434 - .03 =.0568 11pm -1am - 3 drinks =.0651 + .0568 - .03 = .0919 Elimination 10 percent excreted by breath, sweat, and urine 90 Metabolism Calculating Blood Alcohol Content 1. 5. I know a lot people who tried to do the 'right thing' and not burn a bridge by giving as much as a 3 or 4 weeks notice. Nowadays, when you do that some companies will let you go right on the spot. That sux because in many cases the person was still counting on those 3 or 4 weeks of pay. Suddenly they have a 5-6 week period without income. Personally, I wouldn't give more than a 1 week notice and I'd be prepared for them to bounce me on the spot.
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) I agree completely... It's a good thing I didn't actually hear this first hand, otherwise I would have gone nuts. I don't particularly like Mark Prior. In fact, I actually dislike the guy. He's not the most lovable character. But practicing this kind of journalism is ridiculous. - A guy is on steroids if he get injured too much - A guy is on steroids if he stays too healthy - A guy is on steroids if he gains weight - A guy is on steroids if he loses weight. There's no way to win. No way to not have your name arbitrarily attatched to the stigma of steroids without even the slightest bit of proof. I'd be seriously pissed off if I was Prior, or Helton(who got called out last week) You would have gone nuts? You're raging man, pull back on the juice.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) I found this.. http://www.dui.com/bac_levels.html Effects .04 Speech impairment .04 commerical impairment levels .05 legal presumption starts .08 legal definition of under the influence .10 accident curve rises to 6X's more likely .14 20x's more likely to have accident .16 35x's .20 stumbling .30 vomiting, passing out .40 coma .50 comma, Death .60 Death It would be interesting to see how many drinks an average man and woman have to consume to reach each of those readings. I remember a news team broke down exactly how much you'd have to drink to be legally drunk in Ill.and it was a LOT. I think they've lowered the standard since.
  8. Until the Sox prove them wrong, why are they morons? They haven't picked us the last 3 years and we haven't won. Don't be pissed at them for calling us losers, be mad at the team for proving them right.

    OMG

Drunk driving is something most young people do ONCE when they're really young, macho and stupid. You outgrow it very quickly. For an adult to do it is inexcusable.

yeah, something tells me that reading is incorrect.
  11. any watch place should do it, Fossil is not exactly Rolex.
  12. sorry if this is posted elsewhere, strange source, but here it is, 3 paragraphs down: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/scor....mlb/index.html
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) Most estimates are in the 10-20% range, the prediction is we would start importing more food from Mexico and South America where the labor would be cheaper. Some rural farmers would go bankrupt, others would see homes being build on their land. Americans have never shown a willingness to spend more money for Made in America. We recently relaxed our laws to allow ground beef into this country. Thank you fast food burgers. BTW, my favorite fast food burger only uses 100% American raised beef. What-A-Burger We think dependency on foreign oil is problematic, imagine dependency on Argentina and El Salvador for our food? I LOVE whataburger, wish they were in Chicago.
  14. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7316846/ Do you think people are a little burned out about seeing this in the news?.....unfortunately.
  15. QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) I'm saying that I don't know. I just gave a hypothetical. The 24/7 live broadcast from the hospice by the media has made me so angry at it, I stay away from tv news at the moment. I see what I read, and given that my net access is at the moment limited to work, I'm not as well read as I oughta be. The whole media frenzy has turned into a freak show. Reminds me of Natural Born Killers when they follow Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson around.
  16. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) I like it. LOL, it's time we got this country back to one that works hard and not one that expects things on a platter.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Which I am totally against as well. No able bodied person should collect aid like that long term. At worst those systems were meant as temporary holdovers for people down on their luck. At best they were meant for the unemployable. How about this, every year, the U.S. gov tracks down (and they can) those illegals who have been the most hard working and grants them citizenship. The same number of welfare and aid recipients get deported, deal? lol
  18. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) Ireland (and yes there are many ways to get here illegally from there - some of Brian's family got here that way around the time my dad got here) Thank you and many still do. We still give out student and tourist visas, which are pretty much based on the honor system. "do you promise to go back to your country of origin within 90 days"? Once you decide to stay, there is very little they can do about it.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Why should a person who commits a felony be rewarded? I see your point, but we already 'reward' lazy American asses with welfare and aid.
  20. Not all people working here illegally do not pay taxes. I know FOR SURE that many of them obtain fake SS #s and work for many years. Taxes get taken out of their checks, just like everyone else. Many of them even buy cars and homes. I don't know the details of how they do it, but it does happen. You'd think it would be pretty easy for the gov. to find these people and deport them. Hmmm, wonder why that doesn't happen?
  21. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7293186/ What if it proves otherwise?...oooops.
  22. I think you're right about the Sox hate fest, but I bet they pick the Cubs to finish 2nd, maybe even 3rd.
  23. I'm asking those of you who are both diehard Illini fans (alumni, or current students) AND diehard Sox fans the following: What would bring you greater joy, an NCAA basketball championship, or a W.S. victory for the Sox?
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) on sportsnite they said his calf was back to its regular size, and Walker said he was killing the ball, he just cant run at full speed yet. This offseason he still worked on his upper body with A-row. Back when he injured his tricep he was not able to work out his upper body at all which hurt his muscle memory and his fast-twitch muscle fiber that is used at the plate. I think he will be strong this year, and will have more RBI's than we think. Also, remember that for most of the time he played last year, he couldn't run on that foot either and he still was decent. Is he wearing protection of some kind, so he doesn't take a foul ball off of it?
  25. How many days is it now without the tube or water?
