Update on the two recent Cuban defectors
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thanks for the update. Maybe KW's been so busy trying to get the Cubans that little else has mattered to him. Who could blame him if this was true. Both Cubans under 30 and with Viciedo and Ramirez to supply a bit of home the Sox had this golden opportunity drop right in their laps. -
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) really? I didn't think losing Big-Game Javi would cost us26 wins. News to me. Just 3 starters ( no Javy and no Contreras) with Carrasco and Richard having the most ML experience yea if that happens along with the current roster dwellers manning other positions it's 100 losses. Now I don't expect the current roster to be exactly the same to start the season but its getting kind of scary and I know I'm not the only Sox fan holding his breathe right now.

106 players have drug exemptions b/c of ADHD in MLB
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) ADD and ADHD are different. http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/learning/adhd.html Read under the heading symptoms. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 08:27 AM) This has been predicted several times by several people on the board. If it's non-guaranteed, I have absolutely no problem with it, as I trust Freddy as a #4 more than I trust Marquez. How pitiful is our rotation that you trust Garcia as a 4th over Marquez ? Now imagine going into the season that way . Hello 100 losses.

106 players have drug exemptions b/c of ADHD in MLB
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For those of you who don't know . ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder . It used to be called ADD . You can google ADHD and find out more about it but it seems apparent that by the amount of cases ptatc is right . Players are trying once again to gain a competitive advantage through ADHD drugs . -
Just watched the Don Larsen perfect game. Picked it up in the 8th inning. I'm watching and listening to the announcer and it occurs to me Vin Scully is the announcer . Made me really appreciate how he's witnessed so much baseball, so many historic moments and playersand he's still at it any time I want to watch a Dodger game. There hadn't even been a perfect game in MLB since 1922 and Larsen had no idea that's what it was called. He just thought he threw a no-hitter.

Baldelli Misdiagnosed
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in The Diamond Club
Sorry for forgetting the link. I was on my way out the door for work. -
Free agent Rocco Baldelli no longer has the sometimes fatal mitochondrial disorder but now has been diagnosed with the less severe and treatable channelopathy. What this means to his career path is unknown but it's much more encouraging than it was.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know the Dye/Bailey deal looks dead but found this about Bailey's mechanics http://www.drivelinemechanics.com/2008/12/...chanics-homer-b . In short his mechanics don't look so good. -
Told you all Tampa Bay wasn't going to spend the money to get Dye.

The 06/07/05 Bombings: Never Forget
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) what a draft that was for the red sox....ellsbury, buccholz, lowrie, bowden and hansen All in the 1st round after the Sox took Broadway. -
Are the Yankees really that much richer than everybody else or are they more willing to operate in the red to uphold a winning tradition ? Maybe MLB should increase the luxury tax. It doesn't seem like much of a deterent to overspending.

Rumor: Lowe to sign with the Yankees
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to SOXOBAMA's topic in The Diamond Club
In this economy the team willing to spend the bucks makes the big news. No surprise its the Yankees. Expect the Red Sox will be signing a few FA also. -
Our old friends the Braves want JD
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) I think KW intends on getting a pitcher. I don't think Marquez will be our 4th starter. I think he will have to battle it out with CR/AP for 5th with the losers trying to find a way into the bullpen. The Sox need another starter and it would be better to get the pitcher with Dye and get the position players via free agency. Free agent pitchers want too long and too expensive contracts for the Sox. Is it just coincidence that the initials for Richard and Poreda spell CRAP ? -
Cross Freddy off of the #5 starter list...
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That article came out about a week ago. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) I'd rather have Charlie Villanueva. Bulls need that post up offense and Skiles doesn't seem to want to use it. Thats cuz Villanueva would rather shoot jumpers just like TyTom.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) If Chris Getz is better than Cabrera, he should have been playing against Tampa in the playoffs. Getz was injured for the playoffs.

Brian Roberts, Lastings Milledge, Ricky Nolasco

After the Swisher trade , I said this , which I still think is valid. We now have more middle infield prospects for Baltimore to choose from. Still thinking Kenny makes a big push for Brian Roberts. "This was the obvious 1st move of the off season. Does it make Vazquez the next to go ? Maybe but I still don't think its enough to fill a vacancy created by moving Javy. I think it lessens the chances of a Dye trade though there could always be an offer that KW can't refuse. I'm excited because the KW plan has started unfolding. Look for much more to happen in the next 6-8 weeks. KW also has more prospects to trade now. If you're looking for a big name, think Brian Roberts or Carlos Beltran ....." Stay tuned.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) Contreras can't pitch yet, can he? Not until July at the very earliest . Our Sox players are not playing in Cuba . They're not welcome there but they USED to play for the team he mentioned.

Sox still interested in Willy Taveras
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to beck72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
KHP , from 2005-2008 Taveras had a .000 BA on 3-0 counts in 19 AB's probably not because he was swinging and making outs on that count but I think its more like he had no batting avg because he never swung at 3-0 pitches . So any statistical analysis probably shouldn't include 3-0 batting average unless its .000 because he was actually 0 for 19 by making contact and making outs on 3-0 pitches which I think is highly unlikely. -
Freddie is hurt again. Hurt his shoulder in the Venezuelan league recently.

Guess they didn't like the Swisher trade

Downey on new look Sox for 2009...
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) I like what I've read about this Link kid. Hopefully he can show he can be a good major league pitcher, this way maybe we can deal Jenks like KW wants to do, seemingly. I don't like this stuff on Beckham. I hope it's nothing. Hasn't been an athlete created who a scout doesn't have at least 1 negative thing to say about him/her. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) But you know what? There's been plenty of reason to do exactly that over the last 2 seasons, but Ozzie just refuses to do it until someone is actually injured. The 3rd year's the charm ?
