  1. Rienzo didn't look bad against Cuban though he got the lose. Gave up only one hit through 4+ innings but 4 walks and 1 K. He looked kind of mouthy with the home plate ump too.
  2. It seems the bigger point is the Sox pitching is consistently unrated for a hitters ballpark. Article on Quintana's off season http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/white-sox-t...esses-white-sox
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) I wouldn't say Morel plays more positions any more than I'd say this guy has. Neither one has done so in a number of y ears. You'll see Morel at different positions this spring . 2nd base surely, SS maybe just so u can't auto put Angel Sanchez on the 25 .
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) If they were just "Hedging their bets" they wouldn't have traded something useful for a guy out of options. He's on the roster and Morel is in AAA until further notice. Hedging their bets because they want competition. Morel is more versatile. Plays more positions but has history of back problems. Keppinger coming off broken leg now has sore shoulder. If neither able to play Sox have at least a AAAA replacement.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 10:30 AM) It also has a lot to do with what they think of Brent Morel if you ask me. It's just hedging their bets is all. You just can't count on a back being stable though Morel feels good now. How he holds up is key.
  6. Morel RBI double, Tekotte RBI triple , Rienzo K's Viciedo and Flowers are pretty much the only details I can find but i haven't searched twitter.
  7. QUOTE (balfanman @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 09:04 AM) No one wants to just hand Morel the 3rd base job; and spring stats, while a factor, don't have as much to do with it as how his back is feeling. Personaly, I'll let Rick Hahn, Robin Ventura, Herm Schneider and the rest of the Sox brain trust decide who plays 3rd base, mainly because they know a lot more than any of us here do. Even though it is a small chance, I hope that Morels back is completely healed and he becomes a solid 3rd baseman, offensively & defensively for years to come. I'm just happy there's an actual baseball discussion going on. This place has been dead. Morel actually sounds delirious when talking about how good he feels right now. I hope it continues and he can show us the real Morel for better or worse.
  8. QUOTE (Special K @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) Morel is horrible. I think this board has amnesia. It's far from amnesia. Our memories are too good . The power he flashed at the end of the season 2 years ago gave a lot of us hope the Sox might have a diamond in the rough, a real power hitting , good glove 3rd sacker , which is becoming a rarity in baseball. And if I recall correctly those HR's were not just garden variety. The distance they traveled were on average longer than Dunn's HR's.
  9. Just voted about 50 times between periods of the Hawks/Ducks game.
  10. QUOTE (MEANS @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) Nope I hate them too. Winning Ugly applied to the way the Sox won games and to their uniforms .
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2013 -> 05:26 PM) I forgot about the Anderson claim. I'd rather have Casey Kotchman , he's still waiting for a phone call.
  12. looks like no one wants to count down
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) Don't you know that stealing bandwidth is a crime on the internet?!?! God that site is so backwards. lol i don't even know what stealing bandwidth means . all i know is here it asked for the url of the photo so i gave it .
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 02:02 AM) Ken (the Bandiit) Berry one of my all time favorite Sox . Was technical advisor on Eight Men Out and even had a line of dialog, which I didn't know, but learned that and a few more tidbits reading http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/rwas/in...=11&id=2961 I'm not allowed to use a pic from WSI ?

  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) The thing is, the price of free-agents only goes up. Lohse contract may look pretty good next year even if his ERA is 4+. A top 3 of Sale, Peavy, and Lohse over the next three years is a nice building block. The term "buildng block(s)" usually refers to younger players who are cost controlled, therefore, neither Lohse or Peavy would apply , however it applies perfectly to Santiago and Quintana.
  17. Send Dunn to the Yankees please ! Then go out and get Kubel for DH . Pipe dream I know Yanks must be looking for cheap option or they could trade for Kubel . But Dunn with that right field porch match made in heaven.
  18. Vote , refresh , vote refresh , vote refresh, rinse and repeat ! U go Marcus !
  19. QUOTE (TomSeaverFan @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) I love reading Jake Peavy's comments. Glad to see him point to an intangible - fading under pressure (choking may be the right word, but is kind of harsh)- down the stretch. I hope the Sox can be in the same situation heading into late August this season and see how they fare the final month this time. This team IMO has what it takes to be a maximum of 10 over .500 beginning in September. That's if everything goes well. I'd say the team will be anywhere between .500 and 10 over on Sept. 1. If the team is .500 it won't be contending. 10 over will be good enough to be right there with Detroit and Kansas City. If everything goes well and that's really well Sox could be 40 above .500 .Imagine Sale 20-7 , Peavy 18-9 , Floyd 16 -8 , Danks 15-9, Fifth Starters 15- 11 Viciedo .280 35 HR 95 RBI, PK, .290 30, 100 , Dunn .240, 40, 100 , Beckham breaks out, Alexei out producing his rookie year, Keppinger .300 10, 70 , DeAza .295, 10, 60 Rios .310 25 95.
  20. I always have a hard time understanding why a Sox fan would argue so vehemently against the Sox , Wilbur Wilhelm ,though I do like the references to Wilbur and Hoyt the famed Sox knuckleballers. I mean it's all well and good if you don't want to drink the Kool-aid but the way you talk, it seems like you can't enjoy Sox baseball unless you think they have a chance.
  21. No way. I can't find a single good reason to take him.Age injuries, roider, and if he plays at all this year he's back at the end of the year where he always chokes in the playoffs .
  22. Kind of disappointed with our coverage of Soxfest 13 but southside sox does a tremendous job at covering all 3 days. Apparently the 1983 Sox in attendance were very funny. And the guy KW interrupted is a key contributor to SSS. Really good stuff . http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/1/29/3924...-soxfest-review
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) While I don't agree with his contention it's easy to see why he would project regression, what with the players we lost. I just think the opportunity for improvement is just as strong, and I'm surprised he doesn't look at that too. Maybe it's easier to predict irrelevance. Honestly, I really don't care. Easier to predict irrelevance when the Sox made him look foolish last year. He'll just keep predicting Sox suck until he gets it right. f*** Passan. I hope he's wrong again.
  24. I think it's pretty apparent someone is addressing your "How to Slay the Tigers " thread by showing how your suggestions last year would've failed. Pretty sophomoric if you ask me and quite frankly , everyone makes suggestions that in hindsight look foolish and it discourages posting at all. I remember a big discussion a few years ago where the majority would've taken Derrick Lee over Adam LaRoche. No one pulls out that thread to embarrass all those who were wrong since Lee is out of baseball and LaRoche is still going strong.
  25. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) Well the good thing is that the Tigers won't be signing Soriano, so they are closer-less. But I don't see why the Nats needed him. They have Storen and Clippard. Tigers probably will go with Rondon the Bartolo Colon clone.
