White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
My post in the AJ signs thread was " hell yea that's Linebrink money". I wonder if I knew something.

Ron Santo has passed away.
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) Right on. I remember his rookie year. I hated him as a Cub. I was at Comiskey Park for opening day in 1974 and saw his White Sox debut.....ugh. but, I was kinda excited about what he may have brought to the Sox though that didn't work out very well. There was Ron Santo Pizza though, that was pretty good. I have to admit that I loved his enthusiasm and love for the game. For that I will surely miss him. As for the HOF, when Brooks Robinson went in, Santo should have too, in my opinion. I was going to say something about the Pizza Man in my earlier post but I couldn't remember why they called him that. Thanks.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 05:33 AM) Wow, the idea of Viciedo for Bell would really be going for it. I'd hate to trade that kind of talent for a closer. Since he's arb-eligible anyway and we have to pay him I'd rather pay Putz. Then, if we're going to trade Dayan, either target a young starter with top-3 ability or go after a dynamic young reliever with legit closing potential. Dayan has serious talent and he should fetch someone who has real potential and will be under control cheaply for a while. BTW during the whole Dunn/Rizzo/Kenny/Jackson s*** over the deadline, when Rizzo said he just needed "one player" to complete that deal, I think (just my guess) he was talking about Dayan. I'm sure he knew he couldn't get Gordon and that was probably just the starting point. I anticipate that Dayan's value around the league is actually quite a bit higher than it is on this board or in the eyes of some of the publications. The dude can flat out murder the baseball and he makes contact with it a lot. And he's really young, too - just 22 next season. I agree. I love his bat and think he can be a much better hitter than Beckham. Not sure if he's valued or not by Soxtalk , but if that's the case it's because he has shown nothing with the glove yet and past prospects with potential have disappointed.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
I'd like to see the Sox take a flyer on Lastings Milledge since he was non tendered by the Pirates and will only be 26 at the beginning of the 2011 season. He was the 12th overall pick in the year he was drafted and could still blossom and he plays a decent RF and has good speed. Shouldn't be expensive.

Ron Santo has passed away.
As a boy in Chicago during a time when the Cubs had so many great players on their team Santo was always my favorite. Even though I was a Sox fan I had a place in my heart for Santo. We shared the same 1st name and a love of 3rd base. Santo handled his diabetes with grace and class raising money and spending time with children's diabetic organizations. He seemed to have a good sense of humor and handled aging and being an amputee very well and inspired many in the same position . Rest in peace Ronnie.

Pierzynski Back; 2 years, $8 million
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) I mean, no matter if you wanted us to bring him back or let him move on, it's hard to argue $4 million a year. Hell yea, that's Linebrink money .

White Sox Sign Dunn
The one day I haven't seen Hot Stove yet is today. Instead I've got Ken Burns baseball , which has been discussing Babe Ruth vs. Ty Cobb or how small ball lost out to the long ball. Seems kind of appropriate with today's Dunn signing.

White Sox Sign Dunn
I wonder if LaRoche get's a better deal than Konerko ? Opinions ?

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) Viciedo in the OF is a bad idea, as the rumor is that he has an extremely difficult time catching fly balls. Yea I've read that too about his depth perception or something along those lines . Had trouble with pop ups but I didnt see that when he was up with the Sox at all. So if it's feasible I'd take a shot and if it doesn't stick OK but if he shows promise let it ride.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) Really, this sounds like a terrible idea to me. They say he's got a real good arm and always hear people saying maybe he could play OF although usually hear LF ala Carlos Lee. So why not RF to take advantage of his arm ? Dunn and La Roche both LH which we need and 1st baseman so that leaves Viciedo out at 1st and Morel probably gets 1st shot at 3rd base so giving it a shot in spring training wouldn't hurt.

White Sox Sign Dunn
Maybe the the Sox throw Viciedo in the right field mix ,add LaRoche at 1st and Dunn for DH/1B. I could live with Dunn and LaRoche.

Konerko and Putz both decline Arb
I guess I'll have to agree with you both NSS72 and TBolt. I'm sure the Thome situation sticks in the craw the most where we could have had him for so cheap and then we spend the money later like close to $10M on Jackson and Ramirez while giving up a pretty good pitcher we had under control for a while. That's the "debacle" part and the constraints supposedly now on the payroll.

Jermaine Dye wants back.
Dye f***ed up and now wants a job but still wants to play outfield or 1st base where he's unproven. My guess is he'd be a bad 1st baseman with as much range as Paulie . DH is about it but he has to prove he can still hit but yet won't accept a minor league deal. Still delusional. Hope he's prepared to sit out another year.

Alexei Ramirez wins AL Silver Slugger
Major props to Lexi on his superb season . He is now amongst the best SS's in the game. Who woulda thunk it ? And yes please Alexei try hitting early in the season for once.
-
Buehrle wins 2010 P Gold Glove
Buehrle is the only pitcher to ever win multple GG's and have multiple no hitters.

If you had to bet on one signing of a new player.....
Still to early to say because many non- tender candidates will be hitting the market soon.

What are your plans for Tank?
I like Tank a lot. He hasn't got to where he is now by looking at pitches . Much rather have a guy who can hit and not take walks than a guy who can take a walk but can't hit a lick. He's a baby , he will learn. Right now his strength is tatooing the ball and I'm fine with that. If he was 24 and still hadn't found a position he can play or take a few walks once in a while then he can be a DH.

10/3: The Final Game of 2010
QUOTE (qwerty @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) They should have taken out kotsay in the middle of his at bat so that he could have also received a standing ovation. Damn shame. That was funny.
