  1. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Sure, that "All fire" bullpen worked brilliantly in 2007, lets do that again! I remember how stoked everybody on this board was re: all the + arms for the 2007 season . I was flamed for suggesting a bunch of inexperienced relievers was not the way to go. I never played fantasy baseball but don't you get more points for more K's ? Fireballers always = exciting even if they don't always = results. KW learned his lesson and signed Dotel and Linebrink.
  2. The defense is going to make the pitching look worse than it is. I think the hitting will be fine and the pitching too , it's just the defense is below average at many positions. My guestimate is that the Sox defense will lose them 10+ games this year.
  3. Thome makes it 5-3 with back to back oppojacks
  4. Randy Williams baseball reference http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/willira01.shtml
  5. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) He's had a few cups of coffee in the bigs. Ugly numbers. And he's 33
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 06:55 AM) MLB.com's Scott Merkin talked to White Sox starter John Danks, who recently turned down the team's offer of a four-year, $15.5MM extension (Gavin Floyd accepted the same offer). Danks was excited by the offer, but his agent advised him not to take it: "I was thrilled to death. I was advised that it wasn't the right time for that deal, but at the same time, never in a million years, never did I think I would have turned down a guaranteed 15. It was a hard decision, but that's why I pay my agent. We'll move on from there." So at least the desire to stay in Chicago is evident with Danks. Danks mentioned two more times that he turned down the offer on the advice of his agent Jeff Berry. He even admitted, "When I heard $15 million, I was like 'Heck yeah.'" Berry wants Danks to wait until after '09, when he'll be arbitration-eligible for the first time. Presumably Berry has his eye on a Jon Lester deal. Just hope Danks doesn't go all Cliff Lee second season version and end up regretting passing up the guaranteed $15 million. I think it's safe to assume that agents don't operate under the old saying "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush."
  7. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) KW should be talking to Frank Wren from the Braves right now. They have 3 candidates for the CF job, and Gregor Blanco is a guy who could leadoff for the Sox for the next 5 seasons, and he's shown he can get on base at the major league level in his rookie season. That's why I've been tooting Josh Anderson's horn. That kinda sounds dirty
  8. It's time to utter those 2 words that send shivers down the collective spine of Soxtalk..... Mike MacDougal.
  9. QUOTE (Wanne @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) Pretty much in full agreement with NorthSide and Cali. It's gotta be BA's job to lose IMO. Bat Getz leadoff and let's move on and put this thing to rest. BA is obviously the superior defender out there...plus...when has the guy HONESTLY been given a shot with consistant innings and abs since he was pretty much tossed to the wolves after Rowand was dealt his rookie year? If you compare Josh Anderson and Brian Anderson since they've been drafted you will see Josh has more than 2000 more AB's than Brian because he's been playing every day in the minors. That's a lot of AB's for Brian to lose over the course of 4/5 years. Being a good defender possibly has hindered Brian's maturation as a hitter just because his D is good enough to be a reserve in the majors but he didn't get the AB's he would've had he been in the minors. Brian could've used those extra 2000 AB's to develop as a hitter.
  10. Just see what the Braves want for Josh Anderson and dump Wise and Owens. Platoon both Andersons and you have 2 + defenders and Josh Anderson has more speed than Owens and Wise and is a way better fielder than either.
  11. What's not impressive about BA's 5 assists already ? You can pick apart the AB's because of the pitchers they face but you can't do that when you throw out runners trying to take extra bases. Not only that but I'm pretty sure three of the assists were outs at home. The Sox may very well have close to the worst defense in the AL. They need BA in CF more than they need a half-assed leadoff hitter.
  12. Carlton Fisk is exactly 10 yrs. older than me.
  13. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) Yeah, you can also watch it online beginning the day after it airs. Unfortunately that's not true as all teams are finished now yet the last 4 teams still don't have the videos online even though that's exactly what it says on the 30 in 30 page.
  14. Kroeger 2 for 2 . Am I nuts for entertaining thoughts of keeping Kroeger and one of Owens or Wise is gone ?
  15. Hmmmm. I pay extra on DirecTV to get Comcast and I've had MLB Extra Innings for years. I'm perplexed as to why the show on airing now CSN , White Sox Spring Training in Depth would be blacked out here in California.
  16. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) Weird. The other games this spring have been live... What sucks as well, is that the Red Sox/Marlins ST game that's supposed to be on MLB Network right now is in a rain delay, and since the Red Sox are the most important and popular team in the USA I'm afraid if it comes out of the delay they'll continue airing it and not the White Sox game until later. Your welcome to come to Pasadena and watch it.
  17. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) I'm surprised one name's on the DP's avoided list, but more surprised at the name on the all-time list...I mean, I know he does it alot. But not enough to be on an all-time list. Good to know when Thome is out of the lineup and you need a pinch hitter with men on base.
  18. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 04:48 AM) anyone know what time it airs? 8:30 PM ET http://mlb.mlb.com/network/schedule/ amazing what you can find on a computer
  19. My spider senses are tingling for you dude !
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) I thought this was hilarious and this thread needs a return. I tried embedding, but that gave me a headache. What do you have to do other than copy/paste the code on youtube? Edit: Thanks Tex. As a big fan of 80's rock . This is classic !
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) She's acting royalty in the UK (sister of Joely and daughter of Vanessa Redgrave). Really sad story considering she was awake an hour after the fall, and then started feeling woozy and then went unconscious apparently, and Liam Neeson is one of my favourite actors too. Reminds me of why the NHL put up the netting behind the goals. The 13 yr. old girl who got hit by a puck and died was admitted to a hospital , sent home and was later re-admitted before she died IIRC. Brittanie Cecil was her name and she would have been 21 March 18th. Tribute video to her on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On8Ldrly7qM
  22. Damn I envy everyone who will play. I was playing in a 12 inch slow pitch unlimited arc league in California the last couple years starting at 1st base through my 49/50th b-day until I was diagnosed with RA, had to quit but now its under control and I'm itching to play again. The composite bats they make today for 12 inch are unbelievable . You can hit the ball farther than you could in your prime with an aluminum or wood bat. It's been a while since I knocked around a 16 inch Clincher but if I could hit a 12 inch getting tossed 25-30 ft high I could hit a 16 inch lobbed up there easy.
  23. Edmonton wins in a shootout . Toews and Kane both missed , 2 Edmonton shooters O'Sullivan and Kotalik both scored at the UC. Hawks bad streak continues.
