  1. So would I . I was just saying he could do anything since he's a FA, its all possible.
  2. That's a lot to add in 2 weeks unless you meant we'll add all that this off season. As much as I think they add this year next year is a better starting pitcher market and they probably shouldn't add that much unless they are clearly confident they can get the whale. That's the problem ,wait to add around the whale or try to convince the whale we'll add after he is acquired. I also wouldn't be that confident about moving Yoan to 3rd base since the Sox seem to be stressing defense a bit more now . In my mind I often think they miss out on the whales which could signal the same thing as last year which is add some relievers and enough starting pitching to cover innings which means no one like Corbin or Happ . I guess we will find out if the TV contract influences this year or not . Just like with the whales the Sox have to do some selling on the long term competitive window to the TV people and might come up short in both. I can easily see this ending up another bad year though not as bad as last year. If the winter meeting come and go with minimal Sox activity then the bloom is off the rose.
  3. Maybe you just should have stopped after" I stand corrected". Caulfield didn't say anything else to warrant such disdainful sarcasm. You stated something that was clearly wrong and it was politely pointed out to you. It's ok to accept you were wrong graciously.
  4. Since Nelson Cruz and now Jonathan Schoop are available we can sign them both to go along with Beef on the sign all Machado's good friends team.
  5. Once the pitchers learned he's an undisciplined hitter they threw him all kinds of junk that he couldn't hit out of the zone. He was kind of like the Avi of 2nd baseman. Hit's well in the zone can't lay off the stuff out of the zone. In that case you really have to have a baseball IQ to survive. Think pitch to pitch, know what the pitchers know even if you have to look at some called strike 3's learn to lay off and make the pitchers throw you strikes. Easier said than done.
  6. Right but since his free agent year was 2020 anyone signing him to a 1 year contract still gets just one year.
  7. Someone might correct me if I'm wrong but once non tendered you are a FA right now. From this point forward he is working from contract to contract. If he wanted to sign a 5year $10M contract now he could or 1 year. It's all up to him.
  8. Who the heck says Daniel is better? Last quarterback beside McMahon who was this much fun to watch was Bobby Douglas and he couldn't pass at all. Was like a linebacker being QB . He threw the ball so hard receivers couldn't catch it and most of the time was just not very accurate.
  9. Is it his age and injuries that bother you about Brantley ? As a player I love the guy. Low K's ,decent OBP ,left handed , not a liability with the glove, can steal a base every now and then, decent pop, very familiar with our division. He gives quality at bats. This from MLB.com "Brantley's contact abilities are well-documented. His career 91.2 percent contact rate on swings is seventh-highest among qualified hitters in that span, and his 4.8 percent whiff rate on pitches in the zone in 2018 was the lowest, by far, among qualified hitters. " I know Harper is still the fish out there circling the bait and maybe that's why you don't like Brantley, If you had said Markakis I would have agreed,
  10. I look at it from a different perspective. We had a roster full of 1st base/DH types. With a young pitching staff the key to our future success. we just cannot afford the luxury of a good hit bad defensive catcher. Not just bad but nearly the worst, probably the worst when you take framing. passed balls and errors into consideration. He showed no signs of progress defensively. Offensively he did improve and he still may improve more and he was our only lower K, high OBP guys. The Narvaez, Davidson, Avi moves were a defensive purge. The end of the clown show on defense. Ultimately it's a trade that can end up looking bad numbers wise if Colome sucks but I think it was more of a statement trade than anything else.It was actually 2 moves in 1 to make not just the bullpen better but the whole pitching staff.
  11. Man I don't know Schoop is still young and he's just one year removed from a career year when he was 25, was an All Star and came in 12th in MVP voting.Out of all the guys non tendered he could be the best .
  12. That was CRUSHED. Nice little stroll from Eloy too.
  13. Many recognizable names being non tendered.
  14. Hahn holding true to his quotes about going outside the organization for pitching help.
  15. It's very possible the Sox do a 20 yr $2 billion dollar deal.
  16. Shoeless Joe played mostly LF but did play RF once in a while. I was there I should know
  17. Me and you are on the exact same page and I am and have been saying 2019 will be different for a long time and of course was scoffed at. I don't think it's a coincidence at all that the rebuild started when it did. When they drew it up on the big board you have to think certain things were hi-lighted such as Machado and Harper free agency and the TV contract. If they weren't then we have some pretty dumb executives running the show.
  18. No idea. I haven't checked his defensive stats but he sure looked bad in the playoffs. Besides I don't think Grandal makes as much sense as everyone thinks. Castillo is the main catcher for 2019 and has a team option for 2020 ? We're probably looking at one of the older defensive type catcher as a backup . Look what Eric Kratz did for the Brewers in the playoffs.
  19. Sox traded for a lot of young arms and don't want to see them hurt by lousy defensive cathers. Narvaez , Avi and Davidson , none stood out defensively. It's a trend . Don't be surprised if more defensive players are found, maybe even at 1st base with Abreu getting a lot more DH time or traded. I've always said play Harper at 1st base.
  20. Now with Avi gone we can actually agree on something
  21. Hahn did say if there was one thing that would be better in 2019 it would be the defense. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if Billy Hamilton joined us.
  22. There goes the 2nd best 2 way player in the AL
  23. If they non tender Avi thats's about what Colome makes.
