  1. I may be wrong (always cover your rear) but I think losing Harrell off waivers is not translating into anything for the Sox
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) What? Let's just make stuff up while we are at. From all accounts Dunn has been working his tail off trying to figure it out, which has maybe just made things worse
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Seriously. Scott Baker isn't pitching, so this dude is taking the mound against us to cap off a sweep, presumably. If you ever wanted to see a no-hitter in person (or maybe even a perfecto), I'm sure there are still plenty of good seats available for the Sox game Sunday! That is a bit scary for sure
  4. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) This team is sooo frusterating. We have pleanty of pitching. But our offense has underachieved for over 3 months. When will someone be held accountable for Adam Dunn's and Alex Rios' horrible seasons? Obviously Greg Walker will never be fired, its obvious that Guillen is losing his passion for managing this team. Whatever happened to putting the best players out there on a given night? When Ozzie first started, he would never tolerate this crap. Now its almost as if he "has" to let Dunn and Rios play because of their contracts. Guys like Lillibridge and Viciedo would give us a much better chance to win over Rios and Dunn and yet- he isn't pulling the trigger on that move. The AL central has also dominated us for the past year and a half. When you are trying to win a division, you NEED to play over .500 vs your division rivals. We are freakin 7-14 vs the central this year. Last year we were 32-40. That is garbage. We are not going to win this division or let alone come close to making the playoffs being dominated by our own weak division like we are. What do i want to happen? Make some moves! Bench guys! Bring up Viciedo. Let Lillybridge spend more time our in CF. Make some trades, starting thinking about the future. Obviously we are stuck with guys like Dunn and Rios. But we can definitley get some value back for guys like Edwin Jackson and Carlos Quentin. I don't believe that Lillibridge is an everyday player. It is tempting because of Rios seemingly sluffing it and Dunn's failure at the plate, but Lilli - and I love this guy - is best suited for role playing. He is the super sub you need and put him in an everyday role and he quickly comes back to Earth
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideTeacher @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 04:59 AM) I was at Monday's game. My friends and I agreed NOT to boo Dunn when he came to the plate, but rather to cross our fingers and send this guy some (much needed) positive thoughts. We all went WILD when he got the base hit, and they might as well have clinched the division when he hit the homerun because the Cell went CRAZY. "Finally!" we thought, "A chance to turn it around." And then... we woke up. And it's right back to terrible. I'm trying to keep a positive outlook, maybe cause i'm stubborn by nature and I'm not one to give up, but COME ON ALREADY. I'm new to the board and I'm happy to be here. Misery loves company, I guess. I am with you. No one could have seen ahead of time or called the dismal collapse of Adam Dunn. You still have to believe he will turn it around. Maybe the All-Star break will help him get his head straight. It has to be a zen thing (whatever that is-but it sounded good) and not a physical failure or suden demise of his athletic skill. Rios is another story. He is making a lot of money and in my opinion Toronto gave him that contract based on one real good year. We got a good one from him last season and that makes me believe he can produce-if he really wants too
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 02:13 AM) He didn't say anything that was incorrect. Juan has had a nice 10 games. Not surprising. Even bad players will have a nice streak here and there when they play EVERY single day NO MATTER how poorly they're performing. Poor Juan gets no love even when he does good. Let's be positive and maybe our good karma will envelope this team
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:51 AM) Ramirez is so afraid of staying on the bag. I have heard that analysis before. You would hope someone like Cora or even ozzie is seeing that and working with him. He must be afraid of contact
  8. And the postscript will be "They went quieltly into the night." That's the players not us Soxtalk posters cause we are throwing tantrums adn we can't be blamed. It is getting worse though. I changed my PTC tonite from Juane Pierre to Mark Teahan and Pierre has the hit
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) Great, maybe Sergio and Cooper can teach it to Edwin Jackson, as well. He just has to avoid those 9th inning homers
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) First game thread of the year, hopefully I bring them some luck Winning from the Twinkies is very delicious
  11. Teahan I did originally have Pierre, but maybe MT can hit a grand slam. Has a better chance than JP
  12. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 03:31 AM) I feel kinda bad for Pierre to be totally honest. I feel more confident with him at the plate than I do half our lineup (Morel, Dunn, Beckham, Rios). I agree our team would be better if he was replaced with Viciedo, but he's hardly been the only problem. So, yes...replacing Pierre with Viciedo will help. But it's not going to make Beckham hit like he can/should, it's not going to make Rios live up to his potential, it's not going to get Dunn back to his old self, and it's not going to make Morel live up to his marginal upside. Even though I am pretty certain this is Juan's last year witbn the Sox I do agree that it is sad he is always the scapegoat. The team had plenty of underacheivers, but we spend in inordinate amount of time slamming Juan Pierre.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) "Chen threw the ball good (well)." Ozzie Knew that was coming. "Jackson pitched well." Yikes. Edwin throws way too many pitches every game almost
  14. It is a very frustrating time - that's all I can say. We end up just going over the same old stuff -trade that guy and this guy-this guy sucks-fire everyone- trade everyone, etc, etc Scoring a lot of runs for several game sin a row will help get us happy again - that is as long as the pitching doersn't collapse and give up a lot of runs at the same time.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) This isn't even hyperbole. This is more like bolehyper. maybe "bull"hyper. It isn't going to happen period
  16. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) "Anyone who thinks this team can catch Cleveland is crazy" Say it ain't so Jerry - say it ain't so
  17. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) Could anybody see Teahen getting dealt to ATL? We'd have to throw in a quality player or pick up probably 95% of Teahen's salary, we really need him off this team I don't knoew about to Atlanta, but I would not be surprised if Teahan did go. It seems that with Morel up an doing a good job with the glove and at least adequate at this point with the bat Teahan is being bounced around for playing time. He can still play a pretty decent 3B and has shown some versatility, but is good enough to be an everyday player for some team
  18. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) The Braves want and need to open a space for Teheran, Delgado, and Minor. If they can acquire offense for both Lowe and Beachy, they wouldn't hesitate. OK, but maybe we should hesitate
  19. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) He probably read it on the Internet as well. Trading Quentin for next season probably does make sense so that Viceido can move into RF. Trading him during the season doesn't make as much sense - as streaky as he is, he's still one of our best offensive players. My guess is Juan is either gone next year or is the 4th OF'er. So Viciedo moves to right and CQ to left. Trade CQ and you just open up another hole IMO
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Yeah, I think the point is that KW has seen this before. CQ can be a monster, but he's proven that he's streaky and prone to long stretches of bad. That being said, his value is currently at a premium and he's setting himself up for a big arbitration raise or contract extension. Given that Viciedo is essentially the same type of player, it makes a ton of sense to consider dumping the more expensive and still risky CQ while we can maximize the return. Now, it absolutely makes us worse right now, but it's an opportunity to be in much better shape going forward, and it's an opportunity that won't last for very long. I don't know if it's the right move, but I think it's something you have to consider. I can understand folks wanting to make what some may think is an impact trade, but I really see the need for two trades. Lowe is a starter and we have six now. We are in a pennant race and only 3 1/2 games out and we want to trade away a solid hitter and a guy with a lot of upside and then turn around and trade a starter for "young talent." I don't see what we are really benefiting. Maybe a relief pitcher. Ok then now we have a surplus of releif pitchers. People are quick to low ball our own talent and raise the stakes on someone elses. It wasn't too long ago we heard calmoring for the trades of Paul Konerko, AJP, Beckham and others.
