QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) If Beckham is really starting to get it defensively, there may be no need to move him back to ss. If we don't trade Lexi, that could be a good ss/3b combo for a while. It worked out for ARod. Short is a lot tougher to play. I don't care if it is Gordon's "natural position." Why all the talk of trading Ramrez? He isn't going anywhere. The kid came up to the bigs straight from Cuba and our ST. He is still learning just like Beckham. The kid has tons of talent and I am sure this criitcism from Ozzie and the team is a way of getting him to concentrate and raise to the higher level expected in the bigs

Commenting on the game: I watched on MLB-TV and loved it. Pettite and Floyd locked in a real duel. There was no inconsistency in calling the strike zone, as was mentioned before, the ump was consistent for both teasm and called those outside close pitches strikes. Floyd had one unbelievable hook working last night. We were able to take advantage of some mistakes when they presented themselves and that's what counts. I am not a Wise fan, but he is here and needs and deserves support. I saw the concentration and determination in his eyes last night and he delivered. Kudos to D Wise.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) Lets make things clear. The only person that can judge someones pain tolerance is themselves. I don't recall Alexei missing a ton of games due to injuries in his short career so I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt and your comments were absolutely ridiculous. I think you have made the point that needed to be made. You cannot speak for someone elses injury oir pain tolerance. Alexei has played when banged up I believe. A sprain as pointed out in other posts can be as painful as abroken bone and maybe worse. I have sprained knees and ankles before and it hurts. I know the CQ must be really hurting from the plantar faciatis(sp) cause I had that problem some years back from not stretching enough before I jogged and it hurt like the dickens

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) You didn't say anything about the economy. And who cares if these trades happened in the past? We are not in the past, they will not happen now. Nobody will give up a top-flight prospect for 2 months of Dye or Dotel when they can't offer him arbitration. What's with this trade Dye stuff all the time? For cryng out loud we lose a few games and all of sudden we White Flag our best players for a "prospect?"

QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:32 AM) Saw Rosenthal mentioned Fields to Baltimore for Sherrill. He was speculating a bit but says we are one of the teams in on him. Sherill went to the Dodgers

QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) We have a great shot at it. The matchups are somewhat in our favor. Floyd is pitching great and can bump Pettitte. Richard>Mitre if he pitches as he has been. Danks against Burnett will be tough but at least we'll stand a chance. Same with MB vs. CC. Just seeing how theyre like 9-1 and we are 3-7...Not lookin good. I think our pitching is better than the Yanks. The only concern I have is Jenks in the 9th. You can beat Rivera once in a blue moon, but Jenks is a concern lately everytime he takes the mound with the game on the line.

We would be in a bad way if we start having to move players aroud to cover defensive needs. Beckham is clearly the 3B this year at least. He needs to stay at 3B and continue working on that position. Nix can play SS and you leave Getz at 2B. You don't have anyone playing out of their regular positions (that they started with anyway). The bigger question is if skinny Alexei hits the DL, who replaces him at the big league level? It won't be Fields IMO as I think he is gone period so it's probably light hitting Lillibridge.

QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) how many people change their tune in this thread if we beat the yankees this weekend???? Exactly

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 03:51 AM) We're not dead yet. We're getting there, but there's got to be more fight in these guys. I have to believe in this too no matter how bad ths group can look at times. It ain't over till it's over someone once said. We sure din't have much to be proud of these last road games and I am thinking this home series against the Yanks could go a long ways towards helping us see what this team has ln its heart

Bringing a lefty in to pitch two batters too late. Baptism of fire for Williams so maybe we have officially folded? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:57 AM) So at what point do you consider DFA Castro? He's been terrible at the plate and behind the plate. I believe this is about three throwing errors in his last few games behind the plates anyway -

Chink in the Sox armor is glaringly large lately. Poor defense. How does a .166 hiter get to you for 2 hits in a game? -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:39 AM) With the offensive fire power we have would it be too much to ask for a blowout every 9 games or so? Why must we go through these long stretches looking so bad against mediocre pitching? It is ridiculous I admit -
