QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) Somebody should tell JD that he's too damn slow to play the OF. He should know himself. Even a hobbled Carlos Quentin is faster than he is. Dye is a very good fielder with a good strong arm

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) I also don't want to see 2006 relived. You know where Dye, Thome and others decided to stop hitting in August and September. Sqwert?! Come on they didn't "decide" to quit hitting. The professionalism and talent of people like Dye and Konerko and Thome are things you can't put money on. We wouldn't be where we are at all without those guys. My guess and hope is we sign Dye and Konerko and maybe Thome too, but Rios' contract will be paid for by the release or trade of someone like Contreras and even though I might not like it - Thome. There will be plenty of playing time for Dye-Rios-Pods-Konerko and Quentin

How many more starts does Jose get?
elrockinMT replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
javy Vazquez is a very good pitcher. I think the problem with him has always been that he doesn't believe in his stuff enough and would work himself out of the game when things started to get a bit dicey.. Contreras is all about mechanics and everything must always be just right. When he is in the groove he is lights out and when not it's an electrical failure if you will. -
Should we sign Gordon to an Evan Longoria-type contract?
elrockinMT replied to iamshack's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kalapse mention that Beckham is under Sox control for another six years (if I read that right and understand the rules correctly). Why commit now when we can see what things bring in maybe 3 years and then sign the long term deal? -
I am ready for Freddie. He is a battler and gives it 100%

If you are lucky enought to get Fox Northwest you will see all three games of the Sox and Mariners, but suffer through the Mariner's announcers. However, I just found out that Tuesday nights game is on WGN

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) There aren't many options unfortunately. Since Kenny made the trade, John, Burly and Jose have all s*** the bed. Not a good formula for winning the division. I think this point is the one to remember. We have had several subpar perforamnces in a rfow by Jose, Mark and Jon Danks. They all three need to get their heads out of their rears and start performing -

QUOTE (VAfan @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 02:48 AM) Loved the perfect game, but getting into the playoffs is so much more important. We can't afford these terrible outings by Mark. 6 DPs and he's still getting shelled, by the Tribe no less. I listened on XM last night as I was driving across the State. Terrible game by MB I don't cae how you cut it

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
elrockinMT replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (3E8 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) Rios has more extra base hits (40) than everyone on our team except PK (42) and Dye (41). Also 19 SB (Getz is our leader with 18) compared to 3 CS. I think the Sox and Ozzie in particular like Alex Rios. But, we as a team have stayed away from high priced free agents and with Rios' possible $60M bill attached I just don't see this team doing that. All you are doing here is taking on an inflated and bad contratc decision that someone else made and now you make it your problem. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) Mark Buehrle hasn't pitched a perfect game in quite some time. Should we DFA him? We will have to wait till about 10:00 PM and make a decision on that one

If you have WGN-America on your cable you can watch the Sox and Tribe Saturday night. I am interested to see who the Sox pitch on Saturday night. I think it is still TBD

A's release Giambi First baseman was batting .193 in return to Oakland fan comments (41)print this page e-mail this page post on facebook Giambi's three-run shotDuration: 00:00:4306.04.09: Jason Giambi hits a three-run home run to right to give the A's a four-run leadVideo Tags More From This Game, Jason Giambi, Oakland Athletics, hittingRelated Video Giambi's two-run shotGiambi's diving stopGiambi's solo homerGiambi's three-run blastRelated Links A's GM Billy Beane on Giambi Jason Giambi's statistics, highlights A's all-time statistical leaders By Mychael Urban / MLB.com 08/07/09 2:50 PM ET OAKLAND -- When A's general manager Billy Beane reintroduced Jason Giambi to the Bay Area media last offseason, seven years after the charismatic first baseman left Oakland for the big money and bright lights of Manhattan, Beane cracked that he was "getting the band back together." On Friday, the reunion ended on an exceedingly sour note. Giambi, who struggled throughout the first half of his return season before being placed on the disabled list in July, was unconditionally released. "This," Beane said on a conference call Friday, "is not something any of us would have envisioned." Brought back as a free agent to the team that selected him in the 1992 First-Year Player Draft and developed him into one of the game's premier run producers, Giambi, 38, hit 11 home runs with 40 RBIs in 83 games before when he was placed on the DL with a strained right quad on July 20. At the time, his .193 batting average ranked last among all qualifying Major League hitters, and he had the fourth-lowest slugging percentage (.364) in the American League. "He struggled," Beane said. "That was the main reason [for his release]." It certainly wasn't the only reason. With the A's stuck in last place in the AL West and headed for a third consecutive losing season, the club will spend the next seven weeks taking long looks at a number of less experienced players, including 26-year-old first baseman Tommy Everidge, a late bloomer recently called up from Triple-A Sacramento. Everidge posted huge Minor League numbers before being summoned to Oakland, and he's been on base in each of his 10 games since his promotion. "Tommy has performed at every level," Beane said. "He deserves the opportunity ... and this is a good opportunity for us to give a lot of guys a chance to play these next two months. "Professionally, this was the obvious way to go." It was not the type of homecoming season that Beane and the A's had so publicly hoped for when they re-signed Giambi, who served as the face of the Oakland franchise from shortly after his A's debut in 1995 through 2001, after which he signed a massive free-agent contract with the New York Yankees. "I talked to Jason quite a bit [before Friday's move was made]," Beane said. "Everyone knows he's a great guy. ... It was difficult because of the person. Jason has a long, successful history here, and he's someone everyone was very fond of -- not just as a player but as a person." Beane said he'd been talking to Giambi about the possibility of a release as far back as the All-Star break. "He acted like a professional," Beane said. Giambi, the 2000 AL MVP for the A's, is in a 43rd-place tie with Duke Snider on the all-time home run list, at 407. He also ranks among Oakland's all-time leaders in several offensive categories, including No. 1 with a .300 average. A .282 career hitter with 1,319 RBIs and 1,255 walks over 15 seasons in the bigs, Giambi ranks eighth among the A's all-time franchise leaders -- including Kansas City and Philadelphia -- in home runs (198) and 13th in RBI (715). He ranks among Oakland's all-time leaders in slugging percentage (.531, second), on-base percentage (.406, second), doubles (241, third), home runs (fifth), walks (636, fifth), extra-base hits (446, sixth), RBIs (sixth), total bases (1,949, seventh), runs (640, eighth) and hits (1,100, ninth). Beane confirmed that the A's are on the hook for the $1.25 million buyout of the 2010 option on Giambi's contract, which called for a $4 million salary this season. Giambi and his agents did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment Friday, but Beane said he expected Giambi to pursue playing opportunities elsewhere. "I think he would like to," Beane said. "Jason's one of those guys who will play as long as he possibly can, and my impression was that he was going to try to continue." The Twins acquired veteran right-hander Carl Pavano on Friday from the Indians in exchange for a player to be named later. Pavano, 33, in the midst of a somewhat revitalizing season following four disappointing years with the Yankees, adds some veteran presence to the rotation of a Minnesota team that will open a weekend series against Detroit with a 53-55 record, in third place in the AL Central, trailing the division-leading Tigers by 4 1/2 games. To accomodate Pavano on the 25-man Major League roster, the Twins optioned right-hander R.A. Dickey to Triple-A Rochester. Pavano went 9-8 in Cleveland -- matching his victory total for 2005-08 in New York -- with a 5.37 ERA in 17 starts and 100 innings. He is expected to join the team tonight in Detroit. Pavano last pitched on Sunday, making him available for manager Ron Gardenhire to immediately inject him into the rotation. He is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA against the Tigers this season. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) I know it's only been 16 games since he's been back, but his average has sunk to even worse than it was before the DL, and I'm starting to get concerned. Did we rush him back? I guess I'm also wondering why people aren't being as tough on Carlos Quentin in 2009 as they were on Paul Konerko in 2008 when the two have had similar situations. Paul had injury woes last year, hits in the low .200s and people were calling for his head despite his proven track record (and it's not like 32 is ancient, after all). Quentin has apparently a bright future ahead of him despite not having very much of a track record, and yet people seem much more willing to give him a pass on a similar average with injury woes this season. I do not believe I was in the group bad mouthing Konerko. I suported paulie and still do nd I also like Dye a lot. I was concerned about CQ only becasue of his foot injury, which I personally am familiar with and knew how long it took me to get healthy again. However, he seems to be doing very well and his bat is coming around nicely. I also think he has done a real decent job in LF since his return.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 11:50 PM) I like Daryle Ward. Didn't have a spot on our team, maybe he’ll get some play with the Nats. Hopper was Wise with less mileage. Not disappointed by either being traded. But, I don't think Ward was performing well at Charlotte. Anyway since he didn't have a chance for the Sox maybe the move was made to give him an opportunity ot make a big league team again
