We don't have anybody in the minors with the batting pop to replace either Thome or Dye. Rather than sign a free agent then left's keep our own players who have produced for this team. Thome and Dye both should stay with the Sox. Really the question next year is the CF situation. You deal or let either one of these guys go and you open up more holes. I can envision a line up of Pods or someone in CF Ramirez at SS Dye in RF Thome at DH Konerko at 1B Quentin in LF AJP or someone at C Becham at 3B Getz at 2B Some movement with the starters most likely and in the pen too

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) I was mainly thinking of Ken Berry or Mike Hershberger. Berry was super and don't forget Tommie Agee who played in 66 and 67 with Berry. They were quite the OF studs

Wise got his first homer on Sunday vrs the Orioles

QUOTE (OldSmoky2 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) He was my first favorite Sox player when I was a kid. When Bob Elston said "Now Burgess is coming out of the dugout to pinch-hit" it usually meant the Sox still had a chance to win. And he frequently delivered. Yes, he did. I remember some about the article which of course was years ago and it went something about how the guy could pick up a bat and hit in the middle of January. The announcers would laugh when Smokey was used for an inning behind the plate to finish up a game.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Colon? He runs horribly. Clearly Colon has no future in trhe Sox OF I checked the box score and he three 77 pitches and 56 or so were for strikes . That can't be too bad as he is rehabbing. It would be a shot in the arms for the Sox if either Bart or Freddie can contribute. Let's hope we can squeeze something out of those two that helps us win (and isn't too messy)

Rays @ White Sox 7:11pm CSN+ - The Passion of The Carlos
elrockinMT replied to WSoxMatt's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Go Get em Sox. Last time we took 3 of 4 from them, but they are playing pretty good lately. However, the Sox are too so I am thinking we are ready to rumble -
Hopefully they try tomorrow! The tone of this game was set with Jose's wild pitches and throwing errors by Castro
-
Bad outings happen, but our pitchers have not been performing as we would think and hope they would for several games now. Buerhle rebounded and hopefull we have some more who do also and soon

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 04:52 AM) Rick Morrissey, there is something wrong with your head Alexei and JOHN Danks for Halladay? Forget that noise He must have been at one of those sports bars when he wrote this article
-
I read the Morrissey article in the Tribune. I can see why he is a writer and not a GM or maanger. Trade Danks and/or Ramirez in the deal for Halladay? Put Beckham at SS and FIELDS at 3B? Keep our young studs is what I think is best. Build from within. We keep The Doc for a year and a half and even though the guy is a super pitcher we give up a super pitcher in the making. Danks is good right now and will get better. Ramirez is good and they are both with this team for awhile longer than Halladay would be. I think the idea of trading either of these guys is just crazy. Maybe we win this year with Halladay and maybe not, but I'll guarantee he will be gone no later than the end of season 2010 and we will have nothing.

QUOTE (OldSmoky2 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) Timo Perez, .316 ave., .406 obp, .852 ops currently for Rojas del Aguila in the Mexican League. Have we at long last reached this point? Luv that pic of Smoky Burgess. I remember when he played for the Sox. There was even an article about him in a spring training edition of some baseball magazine.

When CQ is back and that's probably soon then someone is gone. It will either be Fields or Wise. Unless there is a trade

El Duque could help us in many ways. Richard down to get work and El Duque in

No Fox Sox game here today. I have to watch the Angels-A's. In fact I don't see any Sox coverage on WGN this weekend either. Well maybe the XM radio will suffice.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) Colon will be back on the 24th for the DH KW said. So based upon their results between now and then thats when the move will be made. Three lefties, righties or ambidextrous in a row means nothing in my book. Styles, speed and pitches are all different. It's performance that counts. Richard hasn't performed well for several games, but has shown some success and looked good at times. If Colon can do the job and Richard can't then you will see the change made after the 24th probably. No doubt Richard will get another chance or two though to show if he can do it.

Rosenthal says we could be interested in Rios.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) The only reason he'd make sense this season is if Q simply can't go at all. Frankly though, his numbers have been marching downwards for 4 seasons. Plus we would be looking at taking on an outrageous salary of a declining player rather than sign our own top performers? Financial felxibility gained by the loss of three key members of our team and we take on one Blue Jay who has been slipping every year doesn't quite seem right to me. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) If your looking for something different, you could camp in my back yard and than walk to the games. I have snakes in the yard though. They may be cobras. Them snakes are right tasty critters

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Cobras can't harm el...he lives in Montana. They have killer moose up there! This is true!

White Sox Midseason Scorecard on CSN 7/13

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 03:21 AM) MLB Network was also doing grades. They gave us a C+, but think we can win the divison because of our starting staff and bullpen. Singleton on ESPN BBTN said he thinks we can win also -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) On a serious note I've heard this place is decent. That does look nice. I have never used the train service there and have only stayed in Chitown once when I stopped in South Holland right off the Interstate and then drove to Comiskey many years ago. I don't want to rent a car so that might be a good alternative

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) You should get a hotel downtown. You can take the Blue line in from O'hare if your on a tight budget. Than take the red line to the games. You can get a dog at the Anti-cruelty society. The Best Western River North is right there and within walking distance to the red line. Thanks! I tried to get the misses to consider adopting from the animal society places here, but she ants this Great dane puppy.

I am hoping my friends on Soxtalk can help me out. I am hoping to fly into Chicago (probably on United) on Friday, August 7th and out Sundcay. Plan on seeing the Sox game Friday and Saturday. I need to know if there is a good hotel recommended close to Comiskey Park with shuttle service and anything else you can advise me on in the area or about the area. I see a taxi from O'Hare to that area is about $35 or so. I don't know if any have a shuttle offered from the airport. My wife wants to buy a dog in Chicago and fly us all back as a lovey dovey family and the game is my reward.

White Sox Midseason Scorecard on CSN 7/13

Don't get CSN. Can you report for us? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) They were really bad for the first couple of months of the season. They went crazy for the last 2/3 of the year. I think Hoyt, Dotson and Bannister were something like 42-5 the last half. Of course I may be off on those numbers, but it was pretty unbelievable. Britt Burns was the #4 starter.
