  1. Viciedo is 5 years younger than ADA, has much more upside, more team control, and is an absolute rocket scientist compared to ADA. While I'm not going to non-tender De Aza, if I have to give someone the short end of the stick it will be him. We want a long term winner? Give Viciedo as many chances to be a franchise cornerstone as possible. De Aza is so close to his expiration date that the biggest benefit he offers is depth or perhaps the return we get in trade.
  2. QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) Even Lawrie's worst season (this year), is better than every Beckham season except 2009. Also, is younger, and has two fewer seasons in MLB. Yes. Lawrie and Beckham are very different. The "bad" Lawrie post-rookie year is better than the best of post-rookie Beckham and is much younger at a position we have nobody at. If the Jays agreed to flip them straight up, I'd get it done before AA came down from his high. If Santiago and Beckham can get Stroman and/or Sanchez thrown in, I'd give Hahn a lifetime contract. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) If you're sending over Danks, you're most likely picking up a lot of his contract, so now we lose 2 starting pitchers including a good young one and a Gordon Beckham and we're just getting another Gordon Beckham back? I don't understand that all.
  3. It isn't the hitting so much as him walking 11 times and only striking out 5 times. I'd be shocked if there was a stretch the entire season where he did that.
  4. Just remember, this team sign Edwin Jackson to a 5 year contract 12 months ago. Who knows what the f*** they'll do, but you can pretty much bank on it not making senes
  5. I spent all of undergrad on campus, but my situation was a little different. This is a private liberal arts college, so the dorms are (more or less) actually fit for human occupancy. About 80% of students live on campus. I also became an RA my sophomore year, later becoming the campus Head RA, which meant I lived alone with pretty much my choice of room/dorm. I like the convenience of it only taking 2-5 minutes to walk to class, library, student offices, reslife office, baseball practice (I still feel a strange mixture of missing baseball and being glad I'm not spending several hours a day with that s***) Soon, I'll probably be renting something with my girlfriend. There's some chance she and I will be too far apart school-wise to do that, but that's the plan. If I have any issues with funding, I might elect to be a GA in ResLife to pay for things if necessary as well
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) Just switch to the Hawks next time. It was nice watching them score and score and score. Next time, I'll just put in the 2005 WS DVD and cry myself to sleep
  7. When I was a news intern, I was sent into media restricted areas with a cell phone to snap pics, record audio, etc
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:05 AM) The payroll is low and Theo is the face that will allow it to stay that way until the refurbishing of the park is completed. The minion will finally get their shiny new park, cash will come in and then the cubs will have to decide if they are going to spend money or not on players. That will be about 2020, when the Cards are letting Michael Wacha leave as a free agent. If they go big on a FA this year, as I expect them to, they'll be up near $100 again
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) I think Santiago's problems are between the ears. I have a feeling we are watching a Javy Vazquez or Edwin Jackson in the making. Big stuff, cut peripherals, but frustratingly inconsistent and untrustable. I'm not sure. You might be right. His disproportionately worse production out of the pen is understandable, but you usually don't see that at this level. Hector has had a weird developmental arc, though, so it's tough to say what he should or should not be doing.
  10. You know what, maybe we shouldn't blame the refs. It very well might be the Bulls' fault. Refs are humans and it might be necessary to be on their ass if you want to get the benefit of the doubt on calls. I think talking to the refs non-stop is annoying, but if that evens things out then so be it. The one plus of B1G basketball, though they tend to lean to the home team, is they really get to play ball. I wish the NBA let the guys play a more physical game. I'd rather see actual fouls not get called than non-fouls being called fouls. The NBA refs will sometimes let actual fouls go, but it's pretty hit or miss and depends on the player. Lots of non-contact, little contact plays get called, though. In other news, here's hoping Rose/Noah/Deng figure things out before I start drinking and posting again
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 10:14 PM) Between Parra and Bourjos ? I'd have to go with Parra based on his LH and arm and most recent success. He doesn't hit lefties well at all but against righties he's close to .300. Plus I like guys who hit a lot of doubles, keeps double plays at a minimum. No, I mean Q and Santiago. Q has a very nice track record and looks like a really good bet to be a 4 win player over the next several years at a good price. Hector, on the other hand, may be a guy that just gives you okay overall production in the next year or two...but also has that big, big potential to strike out 200 guys with his stuff. Hector is a tweak or two away from being dominant
  12. I honestly can't decide which player I think is more valuable
  13. I think there are quite a few reasons to be optimistic moving forward. Jimmy looked great as we had hoped. Dunleavy had a bad few minutes but then he started to really contribute. You can see the difference between him and the other bench scorers we've had because he is a far more complete player than any of them. I'm happy to sacrifice a little shooting talent (though I'm not sure we have) for a guy that is smart, big, and plays a little D to go along with a little bit of ball-handling skills and such on the other end. Noah had a very bad game, will be interesting to see what's up with that. Thibs definitely gave up on him. He's a big piece of our usual advantage over the Heat because they don't have anybody like him. I'm not sure what's up with Derrick, other than I now know that the preseason is completely useless. Luol? f*** if I know what was up with him in this game. Shot was completely broke, but he played tough on LeBron so it wasn't as bad on the whole as it will look in the box score. Snell got his first taste of pressure, so let's hope he has a little more poise next time out. We leaned on Hinrich a lot tonight and I hope we don't normally have to do that. The offense runs really well with him in there...but he's just not very good.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) I just don't know if I can enjoy a league where the refs decide games las often as nba refs do. NCAA refs do a worse job, but it is much more related to them being incompetent and so it can go both ways at random at times.
  15. This has been a nice finish. Pretty much everything has gone wrong tonight and we still made it worth watching by the end. Having four quarters of Jimmy/Luol, any quarters of Joakim, and a Derrick Rose sighting could easily change the outcome here. s***, if we could trade for Mario Chalmers just to get him off their team we'd probably be much better off
  16. There we go - a bad foul call against Wade
  17. It is clear that the league does not intend the Bulls to win this game
  18. I just want to juxtapose Jimmy's take to the rim with the reach-in called on Taj
  19. Butler getting an and-one there would have made things super interesting. I guess it is still getting interesting
  20. I'm happy to have Conger, though I'm not sure what price I'm willing to pay. Sign me up for Bourjos+Conger for Santiago though
  21. The last couple seasons have reminded me more and more of the Laker era of not-so-long ago
  22. WOW Hinrich got absolutely cheapshotted by two Heat players and gets a foul called on him Cole drives a shoulder into Hinrich, knocking him into LeBron setting a moving screen. Foul on Hinrich as LeBron begs that it be called a T
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) Worst part of this is Deng no showing. Expected others could be rusty but expected more from him tonight. Oh well. He's had a weird night with all of the fouls. Definitely hasn't been able to buy a shot while he's been on the floor though
